Aloha everyone,

I'm Hanford Lemoore, the absentee owner of this here tiki site! It started with Jennifer Thompson and I, way back in 2000, as a Yahoo forum. That's 19 years ago! Wow!

I wanted to drop in and make a few announcements:

Aloha and Mahalo to Hakalugi

Longtime Tiki Central Member Hakalugi has stepped down from being our administrator! He did a fantastic job for seven years, and I want to personally thank him here for all his work. He took on the task when I was no longer able to, and I really appreciated it. In honor of his service I've given him the title of Special Tiki Central Agent! We don't have too many of those!

MadDogMike Picks Up The Tiki Torch

Today, I made MadDogMike our new administrator - he's been a member for 11 years and continues to contribute regularly and I'm happy to have him step up to the plate and help out, and I'm sure he'll handle the new role with grace and responsibility.

A Quick Primer On An Administrator's Role

Here's a list of things Admins can do:

  • Ability to ban and delete users
  • Authority to settle user disputes
  • Ability to modify user names
  • Ability to see user's emails (but NOT edit them, more on that later)
  • Ability to create and modify forums
  • Access to Cool and Current votes and U-Mods (previously I was the only one who could see those)
  • Access to emails that come from the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page
  • Access to TikiShout Abuse reports
  • Access to all forums
  • Add and remove Moderators for forums
  • All Moderator powers (Edit posts, move topics)

Here's a list of what Admins CANNOT do:

  • Admins CANNOT log in as you or as other users
  • Admins CANNOT read other's PMs
  • Admins do NOT have access to the raw database
  • Admins CANNOT view or change user's passwords
  • Admins CANNOT change user email addresses (see below)

Regarding email addresses: I removed the power for Admins other than me to edit email addresses. This was done so that the onus of account security falls solely on me.

Misc. Site Changes

I took this time to do the tiniest of maintenance to the site:

  • Removed the Facebook Like button
  • Removed TC Banner Advertising Links
  • Removed the long-gone option to buy the Tiki Central Shag Prints
  • Updated the Contact and Report Abuse pages

I might make a few other changes as well, but my skills are rusty and about all I can do is remove stuff.

Okole Maluna and Mahalo to both MadDogMike and Hakalugi!

-Hanford
