Local Tikiphiles were stunned one week ago when it was announced on Facebook that Jacksonville's Secret Tiki Temple (located inside the Pagoda Chinese restaurant) was immediately closing its doors. And before you ask, no--the fixtures aren't for sale.

While business operations manager Tommy Tam shies from pronouncing a permanent end, as well as from formulating early alternative plans, what's not in doubt is that he plans a future in the Tiki community. Regardless of how those plans resolve themselves, one thing that has resulted from the closure is the desire to document the family's 49-year history with the restaurant, and more recently the Tiki bar, in the form of a book.

As we lay out that documentation, Tommy and I would like to hear any human interest stories from former customers, patrons and supporters. Any fond memories, testimonials, stories of important life-changing events or meetings that you have personal knowledge of would no doubt enhance such a chronicle. If you have such a submission, please post them here, or on the Secret Tiki Temple's Facebook page, and be sure to include how you'd like your name to appear in the book.

I'll make periodic updates here as developments progress.
