After Hukilau last fall we took an extended vacation, then the holi-daze ate my brain. FINALLY we've got a whole bunch of pictures up that relate to MANY different threads here. There are two things that really stand out for me though- I can't say 'thank you' enough for everyone and everything that made this past year's Hukilau so special, AND on the way back home we did a brief stop over at Hale Tiki. Words can't describe it, although eventually I'll get around to trying. Go to Hale Tiki, don't look for a reason , Hale Tiki is reason enough. Just go- you'll be so glad you did! So, without further ado, a bunch of new albums (although some are pretty minimal)- you can find all the following off my homepage- Here's what's new- New Galleries of both our home bar- which includes 2 new albums of our home bar pix- and a new Where's Shecky gallery with just a couple Shecky album postcards, Seven Mile Shecky is new- Also new albums- Bamboo Luau's Chinatown, Atlanta, GA- Trader Vic's - Atlanta, GA Mai Tiki, Orlando, FL Tiki Island Volcano Mini-golf, Orlando, FL Universal Orlando's Royal Pacific Resort, Orlando, FL Near Cape Canaveral, FL Islamorada, FL (Florida Keys) Key West's Hukilau restaurant, R.I.P. Mai Kai, Hukilau 2004 (Fire rituals) -Sabina [ Edited by: Sabina on 2005-01-20 05:54 ] |

Sabina - Thanks so much for posting all these pics. It's great to take a virtual vacation while I'm locked in my office on a Thursday morning. Thanks especially for taking pics of the Islander sign in Islamorda: Don't feel too bad about its loss of tikiness - I don't think it ever really had any. I have the brochure from back in the 1960s and the only Polynesian thing I can see is that great modernist, soaring A-frame sign. The rest of the buildings and interiors show nothing Polynesian at all - at least what they show in the brochure. Sabu |

Great pictures..Thanks for taking the time to share them. I am curious about the Bamboo Luau's Chinatown in Atlanta. For some reason, I have never heard about this location and was wondering where it was located. If you have a moment, please pass along so more info about the place. |

I just laughed for about 10 minutes, I can't beleive you went to Bamboo Luau's, I use to live walking distance from this place, the food is absolutely horrible, but knock back a couple "Luau Bowls", and you'll be to drunk to know the difference, but hey, where else are you suppose to eat on Christmas at about 2 in the morning. Tikisobayli, it's off I-85, Chesire Bridge Rd. exit(take left) if your coming from the north, if coming out of downtown Atlanta, stay on I-85, get off buforg Hwy exit, take all the way till it turns into Buford Hwy, take right at Chesire Bridge, It's on the left hand side. Really nothing special, just good drinks. [ Edited by: Peel on 2005-01-20 18:33 ] |

Well it being cold and snowy here, a virtual Tiki vacation seemed saniety inducing- glad to be of service!
You, in turn, have just made my day- I was all but convinced we had missed greatness by THIS much. The sign is excellent!, a protected landmark, and still to this day used in all their advertising. Barring nasty weather, and bad drivers, it should be intact for years to come. |

As for Bamboo Luau's, actually, we missed it. We were out getting breakfast and stumbled across it completely by accident- hence the 'drive by' pix. I squeeled, told Mike he MUST turn around so I can at least get exterior pix- afterall what a name!!! Since we got back home,I've been reading reviews on the net, but other than mentions of late-night nibbles, interesting clientelle (my kinda people), mentions of the food being eh, and the drinks being kinda hit or miss- but in mugs, I haven't got any real feel for the place. Can you tell us anything more about the interior? That said, I know there are other threads here on TC with mentions of most of these places, maybe we should move some of the more specific comments into the threads they belong in. |
