Actually, as I was telling the world where I found these I realized I miscounted. I actually found these at the fifth Salvation Army of the day! Just in case anyone is wondering where their nearest store is on the East Coast or elsewhere here is a nice link:

Find a Salvation Army Store

It's all about being in the right place at the right time! Yesterday was my day I guess? Happy hunting everyone!

First genuine "in-the-wild" Coco Joe's find, scored at a local garage/estate sale yesterday. I've taken the pen holder off and cleaned it up to hang on the wall next to my other CJ's desk piece.

I was just saying to myself a few days ago that it had been a long time since I had found one of those wooden philipino Ku mugs.

Then I found two. And a late model CocoJoes 109 Lono, tagless.

And some real cheap non- vintage glass floats with cork rings

Buzzy Out!

I've been to my local Salvation Army store probably 30 times without a tiki find (excluding exotica records), but finally I got lucky recently when I spotted this on a shelf...

And last week, on a brief trip to Vegas, I found this one for cheap...

A lovely bunch of coconuts.

Today's crap:

A KC tiki tealight

A not KC/ chiefly Chinese made tiki magnet

A Hawaiian style outrigger with a tapa cloth sail

I think this is the assembled version of the one Tikicar found last month in the original box

From tikicar's post:

Buzzy Out!

Hey Buzzy. Your outrigger appears to made by the same company as the one I have. Anekona Hawaii. The kit came with a kool little book on the history of the outrigger .Nice find.

OH NO!! outrriger showdown!

BPB
Bay Park Buzzy posted on 11/25/2007

Hey thanks for posting UncleTrav. It looks like yours is a more complex version of mine, and the box looks like an older version than the one Tikicar found. The hull shape is the same on all of them, as well as the sails, so I think these were all from the same manufacturer.
I lost the showdown because I don't have the box or book. :(

My current hall from assorted charity stores and jumble sales of Orkney..

one tall Tiki and a peedie tiki with a slot in the top probably a place-card holder.

two Maori dolls, both with the tiny hai-tikis around there necks.

Hula girl decanter marked "Exclusive Drloll (or Driall its a bit blurred) MADE IN ITALY)

Green Parrot mug with a big H and PENANG on both sides, marked Penang on the bottom as well.
I've checked and penang is a city in Malaysia but is also the name of a cocktail, anybody recognize where this mug came from?

Hey AtomicTonyTiki,

How about that SkullSplitter? Maybe when you come out this way you could sneek a cask on the plane.

A couple of old finds. The spatula has a very curved handle.

Gotta love congas.

Skullsplitter was the first "real ale" I ever drank, but back then in 1991 skullsplitter came in little bottles and was 30 proof, which is crazy strong for an ale, but then they changed the recipe once they sold it outside of the island.

A couple of good scores this weekend, first although not technically tiki, a picture of a ginger plant painted on glass that lights up to illuminate the plant, it weighs a ton.

Then I found a coconut mug from The Cinerama in Hawaii adorned with tikis. This made my week since I had one of these years ago that got destroyed during a move, it's nice to have it back again.

I struck tiki gold at an estate sale today. They claimed these candle lamps were from Trader Vic's circa 1960's. They are in pretty dilapidated shape. They hold candles, and the inner tube is fiberglass. There is also a fiberglass interior for the lamp shades. They are burnt and cracked in places.

My question is: Can anyone verify that these are authentic Trader Vic's lamps? And, if so, any idea of their value? Also, are they worth trying to restore? Or just finding new hardware and lamp shades?

Thanks!!!

Damn nice find Billbot!!! No one man needs two of those so I'll take one of your hands. Just pull'n yer chain. Those look like Trader Vic's to me. It's the same tiki used on some of the menu covers. Strange that Vic's never used the "peanut man" mug design for their own drinks, as far as I know. If they were mine I would just clean them up with a damp cloth. Maybe a couple of new shades maybe something from Tiki Skip. I'd keep them as candles too. I kind like the old used look, kinda shows that they made it this far. Great find . Post some more pic's when you decide what to do with them.

yep, those are vics alright..i still have one. got directly off the table at trader vics chicago.(no, i didn't steal it).

they would put a plastic jar with a wick and some oil in it and those would be the table lights(you can still buy these from a restaurant supply store)...the fiberglass plastic tube slid over it and the shade just rested on top. i sold one on ebay a couple years back..don't remmeber what it sold for exactly but it was about $300 bucks or so...you could probably get the same today, but they have to be in really good condition..no chips or breaks in the wood....the burnt shade doesn't help either.

on a side note...before trader vics closed in the palmer house chicago, they did have many new resin tiki lamps that were modeled directly from these vintage lamps you got here, only they were all consistent in size since they came from a mold and were not individually carved. they were real nice and clean lookin, using the same peanut man maori design. i never got to purchase one before they closed. I guess traders remakes them for some of their bars...you will probably see tham on the tables again when they reopen here next year....

The second is a "magazine" or pamphlet promoting a Cinerama production, South Seas Adventure. I am not aquainted with Cinerama, but will be when I get through reading the 12 pages. The copy dates it as 1958.

Have a good one.

I came across a black lava Okolehao bottle at Value Village today. I pondered whether it was worth the $25 they were asking because 1. I already have one, and 2. like my first one, this one didn't have the ashtray/base. I didn't think about it for long - I decided that it was probably still a good deal and I wanted it. Then when I was waiting in line I saw a shopping cart on the other side of the till that was empty except for the missing base. I grabbed it, of course. The cashier said that someone tried to buy it because they thought it was an ashtray!

Nice Bar! Here is a find from a yard sale. This tiki is from Korea, the woman having the sale who's husband passed away, was a professor of Korean studies at the university and was given this by a student many years ago. This is made of some indiginous wood from Korea and I have appropriately named this guy "Kim Cheeki".

I found this bowl in an LA thrift store a few days ago. Anyone seen this one before? Nothing on Ooga Mooga. It features 3 round-headed tikis supporting a large roundish bowl. The tikis and the outside of the bowl are rough and unfinished. The inside of the bowl has a brown glaze. This bowl is large at approximately 9" wide (tiki to tiki), with each tiki at about 5 1/2" high. Sitting next to a similarly designed Orchids of Hawaii bowl, it is MUCH larger.

The bottom reads "Kahala Hilton, Terra-Ceramics, Hawaii" and is not dated.

The Arkiva Tropika website shows a menu for the Hala Terrace at the Kahala Hilton in Honolulu. The menu has a drawing of a rum punch served in "The Menehune Bowl" (for $1.80!) that may represent this bowl. I couldn't find anything on Terra-Ceramics.

I assume this bowl is from the 60's or 70's but maybe it's more recent?

Great score ScarabaTiki! I have not seen that piece, let alone any other piece from the Kahala Hilton (now the Mandarin Oriental). Interestingly enough, I have a couple pieces from the Hilton Hawaiian Village which have a similar glaze and inscription on the bottom. Perhaps Terra-Ceramics made mugs and bowls for both Hilton locations.
