Hey Ben, Do you think taro might grow in my weird side yard? It gets morning direct sun and then difused light all afternoon. I should have gotten those black taro babies from you ages ago. They'd be huge by now. Damn.

This pic is looking at our pad from the lagoon. Between the two cream buildings on the left is a small private open space.

So below our tiny north facing porch...

... is a long narrow raised garden. It's owner, our neighbor has told us to do whatever we wanted with it so the first thing I did was plop a tiki near the dryer vent! The secret garden is auto irrigated and extends another six feet left where there are already some dwarve bamboo and Jade plants.

Paipo, about 9". They come from Mendocino Ca. A lot bigger than the Eli scraps that I'll be sending you in about another year. ( I think Lake waited about 3 years. I'm horrible at mail.)

Hewey, I'm flabbergasted! MAhalos for da comps.

Harro, " " """"""" " " .

If I ever make it down under........we could mess with people
at clubs!!!

Hodadaddydad, Those elephant ears ( Cali. Tarro) grow like weeds!!! We always have them.

Tiki La.... I'm on vacation!!!!!

Bob from OA, You're the Ultimate Lurker!!!
see you Sat.

Ok. I will try to post more photos soon. Gonna do them seperate cause trying to stack them for me is like not happening ( as above). Surprised I got this far with the thanks. How the hell does Benz, Buzz and LLT stack so much stuff up!!!

Old side garden area....

Area where waterfall and Tie Me Kangaroo Down...went down!

Child Labor! ( earn yarrrrrr keep boy!!) Those be wet 2x6x12's and heavy!!! Thanks son.

A Deck!!!

Pose for Buzzy.

Ugg Boots for Boris!!!

Burning..... for Tipsy Mc Swaggler!

What next Grog??

I totally envy all of the tropical plants you guys can grow.....In the middle of Kansas, I'm not so fortunate to have such cool plantings.....I guess I may just have to move soon. I really like the burned treatment on your deck flooring....it looks very nice!!!

Then, Rock On!

What do you mean stacking stuff up?

Where's the beer to douse the flames when you have a flare up?

Buzzy Out!

'Bout time you do something for yourself Ben.

I'm coming out for Oasis, and hanging in Newport afterwards.

I'll have to bring up a case of Bud after surfing and check out that new patio of yours.

Thanks again for the abalone... I've been having fun with it.

Nice pics... don't give any trade secrets away!

T

Talent out on loan !!!

Nice pics... don't give any trade secrets away!

Trade secrets???

Ha!

I've been making it up as I go for the last 20+ years!!!

Maybe one day I'll sell out and write a book.

More pics soon....

The deck burning photo reminds me of my hair stylist, who has tanning beds. She says there's an artist who rents tanning bed time, puts his wooden art pieces in the bed, and "ages" them 10 years in one session.

Damn Ben! isn't that torch kind of small for the job? We need to find you a bigger torch. Size Matters!

Don't burn them Ugg Boots,Bro!

I chilled out today and hired a "Day Labor".
He was in-line with all the others at the local Homo Depot.
Stuck out like a sore thumb!!!

Elbino!!!

I tried to hire Crazy Al but he is on strike!!!

Damn writers!!!(union)

T

And he's white ..what a find !!!

...updated pics..

corner.

Shower.

almost LAVA wall.

Trade Secrets...

I gave the day labor the weekend off.
He's busy now on some painting for the new cover of Tiki Magazine.

Like most Jobs, we've re-configured some stuff.

The new side area was going to be another bar but will now be the Grotto!

Gonna try to squeeze in an A-frame there too.

We have to live with the "White" window frames ( not much anyone can do with those) and the "White" eaves due
to the assoc.

Akkkkkk!!!!!!!!!

More pics soon.........

Nice work Booben!

Time for a beer!

Love the doorway with the carved trim. That is such a great look when mixed with light colored bamboo and thatch.

The shower is a great idea also... love the look.

Three more months and maybe I can get around to working on the backyard here... after the snow melts and the ground thaws...

T

nice ring...chinabambooben.com

Not sure if that spam was an honor or?

But, to have a giant Chinese Bamboo company seek out a lone,

white, american, Tropical Decor artist is kinda crazy!

A while back Mervins/Target' came knocking on my door for me to build a Bamboo frame for them. Everytime they came to see it's progress, 10-15 execs would be in tow. (my guess...with their hi-tech hidden spy cameras) The next summer they came out with that Target Bamboo Tiki Bar. Yes, it was cheap. And, it got recalled! Karma!?!?!

I will always create different things and never mass produde the same! I am NOT a SHEEP! BAaaa!!!

On another note...

Almost finished the Lava Shower.

Pics next weekend.

rained out!

couple more weeks for pics.

T

You can't work on a shower in the rain?

Cool Ben, so when can we cash in the raincheck for the party!

I remember tripping around that yard and I don't mean falling down. :)

shower almost done....

kinda hard to see though....

lava wall sort of un-done now.

More Trade Secrets. ( for Lake :)

Must have Crazy Al tiki Tool table.

Gonna actually turn it into a table soon.

Flounder. Wear a sailor hat lately?? You looked sooooooooo
Hot that night!

Can't you make me a lahala hammock?
Why ain't Mrs. Boo out there slaving?

Just knowing that you were hanging out with Flounder justifies all of the names I ever called you.
He was over here the other night and mumbled something about California - desert - boyfriend... something like that.

LAYERS!!!!
