Need Info on Older Orchids of Hawaii Mug

We found this guy on our recent trip to OH for the HRHH. We've been collecting for over twenty years and thought we'd seen every Orchids of Hawaii mug, but this guy is definitely one that got past us until now.
It has to be one of the earlier generations of Orchids mugs because it's stamped into the glaze as opposed to the later versions which were engraved into the clay itself.

Anybody got any info on this bad boy?

at a guess that is a 1980s or even more recent mug - the printed Orchids of Hawaii makes it look very 'modern'

I was never a big fan of Orchids of Hawaii, but this looks like a bastardization of their female Tiki mug R76 (the last one in that cocktail guide, serving the Humuhumu) and the Kono Hawaii mug, whose facial features are based on the Cook Islands Fisherman's God.

I've seen that design. I think it is actually an older Orchids piece. Not as early as the red clay mugs or ones marked with paper labels. No idea why you see so few of these, maybe something happened to the master mold and they quit making it? It reminds me of the one in the top left corner of page 15 of T.Q. but with a Cook Island style. They were probably of the same generation.

I don't know - lack of detail, crisp white unglazed ring on bottom - that mug just screams Dynasty Wholesale to me. Here's how Dynasty re-worked the R-18:

Seems like a similar simplification process may have been done with the old R-76. But maybe not - there's another very similar mug on page 27 of Tiki Quest, albeit with a different face.

Also strange that your mug has 5 fingers (like an R-3) but apparently no thumbs!

Wow! Glad we picked ours up in the wild. Nice to know it's worth some good $$$'s!

Super cool mug, and a great Christmas gift for me! Just picked one up for under $50. That's still a lot, but not $110 like the auction above.

I'm stoked to add one to my collection. I don't see one on all of Ooga-Mooga.
