Hodaddy Lagoon Chop, Sunday 6/28/2009!

Pages: 1 2 73 replies

Hi Hank

Sounds like it is going to be a great Chop. Can we stop by in the afternoon? It would be nice to see all of the gang. We just happen to have a bit of that Smoked Fish Dip left over. Does anyone want some?

Hank, maybe post a guesstimate on what time the Santa Clara lot fills up on a sunny summer Saturday.

I'll say 10:30-11:00am.

Bill, PLEASE show up tomorrow!! It would be a two-dayer if you do. On Sundays the yocals don't move their cars much, so I'd say 10am the lot could be full.

Hank and I will try to have two spots available. Hank will move his Bug into a spot Saturday!!! I will try to get a spot as well as I can just ride my cruiser to the chop. I think that carvers should get the spots that are saved. Cuz of toting the logs and burros and such, right? That means just two spots! Drive around a few times and then complain. Don't bring your potters wheel or easel.

Usually yellow zones are NOT enforced on Sundays because it is Sunday. So, if you see a yellow curb around Santa Clara PL., Pismo Court, Pourtsmouth Ct. , Redondo Ct. grab it.

Momma, I loves that fish dip!! No full tray? Whaaaaaa!!!

Sunscreen is a must!

There may be some new choppers that have tools but, no pop-up. If you have two burros that fit well in your stow then please bring those as well.

I am just thinking off the cuff (and off the rim of an empty glass). :)

I whipped up a batch of coleslaw this morning to go with the dogs. And I'll bring something sweet too. I can't go very long without chocolate.

Could someone PM me the directions again please?

Also, if someone could spare a cup of mellow, I'd greatly appreciate it. I keep misplacing mine. :)

Hey Y'all,

Have fun tomorrow. I will make it to a chop again someday!

Here's the directions Kate:

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 carrot, shredded
  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Preparation:
Toss cabbage in a large bowl with the carrots. In a bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients. Pour the mixture over the cabbage and carrots and toss to coat thoroughly. Refrigerate until serving time.
Serves 6.

Basically from the 5 South you take the garnet/grand exit to the Beaches and drive till turning south onto Mission Blvd (the 101). Drive past Freaky Boutiki (about 3/4 mile) and turn left again at the next light (Santa Clara) to park in the big lot at the Santa Clara Rec. Center. Shlep North across sand to the house with the bougainvilleas. You have arrived.

If you want to drop stuff off a little closer turn left onto the ONE WAY STREET at the Santa Clara Motel and turn right at the Yellow house. You should be right behind Pilothouse.

Any problems call my cell and I'll talk you in. 858 204 3608

MAHALOS HANK FOR YOUR LOVELY HOSPITALITY!

Eric - I believe you've made me addicted to bacony hotdogs forever

What an awesome & chilled atmosphere - it was nice being able to doodle sketches and relax :)

kinny & uncle squiddles, we must road trip again  that was fun!

Thanks again everyone for being so sweet! :D

Hank,

It sounds like a great time was had by all. I'm bummed I missed it. The Headhunter didn't make it down. He was slammed with work.
I was going to go with the fam and then the kids weren't feeling good today. Bummer. Hope to do the next one. Gotta try one of Erik's famous TJ dogs.

B

Thanks for hosting another great Mission Bay Mello-Chop Hank!
Let's see what happened! Every word written is true...!

Hodaddy frees Bob from his palm tree entombment where he has been trapped since the mid '50s.
Impressive portrait, Hank.

LLT and 4WD. Ah, man! I was going to wear my Blue Oyster Cult tee shirt, but changed my mind and my shirt at the last minute!

Maria sculpting another fab lil' animal figger.

Kate carvin' up Maui's bestest friend.

Mr. NoNaMe thinking about signing his name.

Kyle doing that mask up right.

Zaya and Kate flanking Buzzy who is doing what he does best at a Chop:
Sipping a tasty beverage and stealing my ideas.

Squid with his R2D2 voice simulator kit with the directions all in Japanese
preparing to call the factory in Japan for a translation.

Maddogmike with his...what is that thing for again?

Hank continuing to free Bob, while Paparazzi Charli moves in...

Squid still on the phone with Tokyo. Ravenne jots down notes dictated in cryptic sub-pseudo Japanese.

It works! Bleep..blip...squeak.. Erik, give that back to Squid and get making those TJ Dogs!

Yeah...that's the stuff...sweet buttery Jesus!

Squid: "Mine indubitably hearkens to a springtime buttercup in both it's ambiance and fortitude".
LLT: "Mine tastes like purple".
Mr. NoNaMe: "Mine lost it's wiener".
Kate: "...boys..."

Bill, stop looking at those funny books and carve!

"Carrots and peas, carrots and peas, carrots and peas, carrots and peas,
carrots and peas, carrots and peas, carrots and peas, carrots and peas..."

The Chop Fortress

Enemy encampment?

We were also treated to a fabulous Hawaiian dance demonstration courtesy of Antoinette.

Here she is using pu 'ili which are sliced bamboo sticks that make a sort of swishing sound used as
percussion.

Next, a pair of 'uli 'uli. These are gourd rattles decorated with feathers.

Banging the rhythm on an ipu, a small hollow gourd. (I learned a lot of new words today)

The hand gestures all have symbolic meanings. (Maybe I'll learn what they are next time)

Mahalos to ya, Toni!
Now I have to go design another mug.

Great hanging with everybody. Hope it's not long until we meet again.

Bowana-Gotta-Go-Now

Thanks for the great pix Dave (I notice there are a lot more pictures of Antoinette than anything else :D )

Mahalo for those who made it and those who tried their best. I have been encouraged to host another Mellow jam and shall consider it if for any reason to watch the TJ dogs and Zipfizz interact. I promise papaya relish next time!

I am sorry i had to run back and forth to the Boutiki. I missed so much but i'm a little short staffed a the moment. Thanks to my angels Toni, Charlie, Andrea and uh... Erik for helping me throw this shindig on schedule dispite the bumps in the road.

I'd hoped to treat all attendees to Freaky Boutiki 10th Anniversapaloosa Tee's but the day was over before I knew it. Guess I'll have to have another before the weather turns a chill.
