Wow, those water sculptures are great, never heard of THAT concept. Those Hawaiian tourist art makers sure were magicians: They could turn mere plastic into wood or into lava, and now: Water! Has anyone ever heard anything about the formula they based their Made with Lava claims on, like how many sprinkles of ground lava they added to a vat of molten black plastic to make it "Legends in Lava"...and did they actually ad wood shavings to create "Hapa Wood"? The text of that magazine art is great, too! |

What the ...!? First of all, it is great to find out Hawaii has so many native trees with cool names, so that part is very educational. But how the heck can they make the claim that they made them ALL merge into plastic figurines? I think you're right, they must have been smoking Hapa Weed! |

"part of my collection ....let me know if I'm sitting on anything rare!" Do NOT sit on your Coco Joe figurines! Some of them could be quite painful and it's not good for the Coco Joes either! Thanks for sharing your collection... yeah, you've got some nice ones there and a nice piece of burled wood too. |

I picked up this hapawood resin plate a few years back at the swapmeet: I didn't buy it right away because it wasn't a Coco Joes and it didn't have a tiki on it. The sticker said the manufacturer was Pictures of Paradise. Since I didn'tfind anything else that day,I went back and got it. I remember when I bought it the lady told me it was from the 60's. She got mad at me when I pointed out the 1986 copyright on it
So yesterday, I was looking at this Cocojoes catalog and came across the page of Hapawood plates. The plate I had was fresh in my mind because I had just moved it on my shelf of stuff. Then I notice this logo on the catalog page: Same as tag: And the answer was right there in front of me the whole time. I just couldn't connect the dots... And while I'm on the subject of NonCocoJoes Cocojoes, here's another one I have from a company called Coralei:

I've got nothing but time to try... A volunteer from the doubles pile: Flat backed older piece Now the drill: Drilled it in about half way through the piece: Next step involved a brad and a hammer. Here is the hanger installed: Then I just slid the hole over the nail and the tiki was stuck fast: Answer: Yes you can! I want to place my order for the as yet unwritten collectors book of Coco Joes goodies. Now someone has to write it. AND... It's probably in the 16 pages I just went through, back in the straighten out your tiki part, but... What's the story on the bent tikis? Is the "fire at the factory " story true? |
