Nice finds everyone! Dewey you still have me beat for finding great mugs in the bay area. All I found this weekend were three albums: "Paradise Moods" and "Music from the movie Hawaii" by Martin Denny, and"Music of Hawaii" by Henry Mancini.

Thanks Dusty, Big Kahuna and OGR. I had to make a trek to the shores of exotic Lake Michigan for this weeks finds. Schirman pieces are hard to find but I picked up three in as many weeks.

Not a bad day when you find a Tiki Bob mug on a table for a $1.00. Slightly different "brown" from my other more "orange" Bob, and the font on the back is a little different too.

I found this stuff today. The most interesting thing is the old post card that I put in a frame that I had. I am making it somewhat a shrine. The post card says- SERRA PALM. THE FIRST PALM TREE IN CALIFORNIA. PLANTED 1769 BY THE FRANCISCAN FATHERS. OLD TOWN SAN DIEGO, CALIF.
I thought that was rather neat.

These are photos of my brothers collection. I've been meaning to post images of it for quite some time. The reason is, I found most of it over the years (accept for the Tiki Farm mugs). My brother collects tiki stuff way more than I do (I usually just collect some mugs and paper items) So over the years, if I found something cool, I would give it to him. His place isn't as decked out as it could be because the landlord isn't favorable to paint or major changes. The pictures include another view of the bar I found him that I mentioned a few posts back.

I am in Orange County,Calif. we are so picked over for cool stuff, so I mostly have to rely on Fleebay for those harder to find collectables
But I was working by the Orange Circle & decided to stop in the antique malls & look around.

I found a few items, nothing vintage but cool none-the-less.

I'm wondering if we can figure out where one of my finds came from. It's a picture holder from a place called "Tropics Club." Here's the cover graphics and one of the 4 pictures of this group that were in it.
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/4b67c6dd.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=4ad7e82d26195e4050beb930e0af102a
The only clues are the phone, which is "Main-10354" and "Upper Valley".

When I saw it in the wild, the phone number reminded me of this matchbook I picked up a while ago from another san Diego place named "Tropic Cocktails?." I thought it was the same place until I got it home and saw the names and numbers were a little different. Here's the matchbook:

Anyone know where the Tropics Club is that the picture holder came from?
thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure that is from Jack Howard's Tropics Club in Battle Creek, Michigan. I grabbed these images from a matchbook a long time ago and it looks like the same artwork from the photo holder. Need some info from Michigan folks.

I have seen very few items from the Tropics Club in Battle Creek and I only live twenty minutes away. I don't think this photo is from the Battle Creek area. The "upper valley" is the giveaway. No valley in BC upper or lower. I have a good friend who grew up and lives in the area and he is going to do a little searching around to try and get some more info. I'll do some digging as well and see what we can come up with.

Buzzy -

Looks like the Tropics Club in El Paso, TX. A book search reveals it was a gambling house as well as a club, and made payments to the mob. It was run by Barney Marcus of Brooklyn and Los Angeles underworld kingpin Mickey Cohen & his bodyguard John Stomponado are known to have visitied it. A few vintage newspaper articles don't paint such a nice picture of the place:

El Paso Herald-Post, Jan 17, 1947 (see 3rd paragraph from the bottom)

It had been renamed the Sunland Club by 1950:

Tikisgrl,

Great haul as usual. Can you post a pic of the Bob Lee mug showing the ears in the back on the Bob Lee thread? I have never seen that mug with the ears before and posted the matching S & P shakers a while back.

Sabu,

Nice research and solving the Tropics Club mystery. Those guys in the photo look mob-sih!

Hope to see more on the Battle Creek location from Uncle Trav.

I've got a couple, too. Mine look like that, but the eyes are just very well-done paint jobs. As far as I know, none of them were actually glass.

Nothing was included with that one. BUT,there is a little how-to on tikifarm.com under the "misc tiki items" tab, you just have to find the right materials. I think that the easiest route woud be to find a funnel with the same opening diameter. I can't quite remember what I used when I made my volcano...

The "tiki" in that first shot looks to have been, at the very least, influenced by Tiki Bob. Beggars can't be choosers, right?

Hmmm...though the style seems vintage, the stamp on the bottom looks more recent, and the name sounds new-agey.

They use to sell this set of mugs on Overstock.com about 3 years ago. I was going to buy a set for my brother but I thought they were to pricey for what they are. I wish I could remember the exact price but I'm assuming it was around 20 bucks for the pair. I remember thinking it was too steep for something that was borderline tiki.
