I'm also in the process of saving my Pineappleman stories , Disneyland blogs and other nerdy adventures as well connecte to this page....

Looking forward to Tiki Oasis this year....Hitting it with a crew of about 10 people....Hope to see everyone there...

Pineappleman11, I dig your handle. It's very "Punk rock" in a Tiki sort of way.

Here's a question though...

What happened to Pineapplemen 1 through 10 ??? :D

I have no idea I think there was at least one other......

I was going to use Pineappleman no matter what....and 11 in my favorite number...So I put that after it...

The name has special meaning that is kinda Punk Rock...In early 1990's after a trip to Maui Pineapple plantation .with my folks and my best friend we came up with a action adventure character called the Pineappleman
--that we wrote a song about --that was later sung by a band we were in together called WASH. (that was kind of a loud noise/Punkish band from Long Beach that destroyed a lot of stuff).....The Pineappleman Song.. Where I would crush a Pineapple over my head at the end of the song..........

Here is You tube video of Pineappleman

http://youtu.be/3mID31rm7OU

In 2006 I started a myspace page that I used as a creative writing excercise to write little action adventure stories that I hoped to eventually have as a comic......Which I'm now recreating in blog form sinceI couldn't access all my older myspace blogs anymore....
http://pineapplemanmrdiff.blogspot.com/

http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Pineappleman/129377657136907

Here is another sample of WASH from the same show where everyone in the band dressed up with Giant Pineapple Heads at the start.. Sorry the quality is so band --it was filmed off of old VHS tapes with a regular camera which was the only way I could load to You tube a couple years back

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVESB3hWC-o&feature=related

Second half of opening song
http://youtu.be/4Tg1qC7pXP4

It was never about the music (thankfully) it was always about the show....
This song was called Speed the F... up

J

Those videos were AWESOME !! Was Bogart's the place in that big Long Beach shopping mall or am I thinking of Fenders ??

Get the band back together again and play Tiki Oasis. You were ahead of your time Pineappleman. :)

And did you ever see that band "Green Jello" ?? They had to change their name to "Green Jelly" after legal action from the Jello company. Anyway some of your videos reminded me of them.

[ Edited by: JOHN-O 2011-05-17 17:19 ]

Yes --Bogart's was in the Marina Pacifica Shopping mall---before they pretty much took almost everything out except the Movie theater and the Mexican Restaurant at the end....

And thanks---those were fun days....and that was my first thought about wishing I could get some of the guys back together again...after the first Tiki Oasis I went to in 2008.......I was like The Pineappleman song would be perfect here..

A couple of the guys are still in another band together--and a couple of years ago when I was about 5o pounds heavier they played at a White Trash Party I had and we did an bad unrehearsed impromtu version at the party.... They told me we were doing a different song and then pulled out a Pineapple as a surprise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxlmWotN2sw

My dream would to be able to put together a novelty Tiki Band (I have about 8 songs already written --but I literally have no musically talent so it is a matter of getting my slacker friends to help me put it to music

I'll have to look it up online and see if they have any videos on youtube....

We used to play with bands like Joker Pickles Reaction, Suburban Rhythm, Sublime, Burning Daisy, One Eye Open around that time....

J

The Tiki and Punk rock connection. Yes !!

That would be cool to see you perform that song in front of a Tiki crowd. Some people would LOVE it and others would be horrified which would make the lovers love it even more. The name also makes me think of this band and their famous logo...

How about "I'm the Pineappleman and You Suck !" :D

You could also use a Pineapple-headed Tiki as your talisman. That would be fun.

[ Edited by: JOHN-O 2011-05-17 17:52 ]

LOL! ---That would be funny....

I'm sure WASH's chaos and Destruction would only please a niche part of the Tiki Crowd......

I was thinking The Pineappleman ---but of course the giant Pineappleheads and fake volcano and fog machine are a must

J

And here's Green Jello. They often used large paper mache heads in their act...

Nice!

Just posted part 3 of Tiki Oasis 2008 blog and tiki of the day picture

all 3 years that I've gone are now up on my blog
http://pineapplemantiki.blogspot.com/

J

Pineappleman, thanks for sharing your photo blog, BUT...

I have to say I'm more impressed by your early 1990's band videos on page 1 of this thread.

You were doing Poly-Pop performance art back when the Tiki Revival was still in its infancy !!

What ever happened to those giant Pineapple heads? Did you make them yourselves ?? Cardboard or paper mache ??

The Pineappleman song is really catchy, I like how it alternates between a sing along melody and then rapid-fire Punk rock bursts.

Post the lyrics please. :)

[ Edited by: JOHN-O 2011-05-18 10:42 ]

Paper Mache my band mates made them themselves and they didn't last past that nights performance...

We had a giant Devil head that was made for a show at Skate Depot that survived for ahwile..

Pineapple …..Man…..(Screaming)
Pineapple …..Man…..(Screaming)

I'm going up the River in a Pineapple Boat
Say Hi to the Naked Ladies down the river they float
Watch out for the Gorillas –because the dong they do tote
Got to fetch the pineapples before they molt

(Chorus)
Pineappleman , I'm the Pineappleman
Delivering pineapples as fast as I can
Pineappleman , I'm the Pineappleman
Delivering pineapples as fast as I can (speeded up)

I arrive at the field in my suit and my coat
The owner isn't home so I left him a note
I took all your pineapples in my pineapple boat
Send my a check or I'll slit your throat

(Chorus)
Pineappleman , I'm the Pineappleman
Delivering pineapples as fast as I can
Pineappleman , I'm the Pineappleman
Delivering pineapples as fast as I can (speeded up)

On the way back the gorillas they flung
I tried to duck –but I'm covered with dung
The Naked ladies they know I'm well hung
But they won't come near me cause I smell like shit (speeded up)

(Chorus)
Pineappleman , I'm the Pineappleman
Delivering pineapples as fast as I can
Pineappleman , I'm the Pineappleman
Delivering pineapples as fast as I can (speeded up)

(Original WASH song written by BAC and END) Early 1990's

J

Ha, ha. Thanks Pineappleman.

Now I'm ready to sing along with you at Tiki Oasis 2011. :)

You're kidding...right?

That John-O, he just LOVES to provoke...

J

I'm totally serious.

Yup, I know I'm losing some Tiki credibility points here but I thought that was some fun stuff.

Sometimes my Punk rock Id is more powerful than my Tiki Id. :)

I think you are mixing up Punk with drunken frat boy, John

J

Possibly.

That is what the 1st-generation Masque Hollywood art Punks accused the 2nd-generation Hardcore beach crowd of. I like to think of myself as a tweener.

So where's Atomic Tiki Punk when you need him ?? He was there. :D

OK, back to the Pineapple blog...

This is also what the first generation Tiki revival members are accusing some of the many Tiki events of.

A fact of sub-culture evolution that is inevitable to a certain extent. That doesn't make it necessary to fan the flames, though.

Didn't mean this thread to turn into a WASH discussion--was just trying to explain where the user name Pineappleman came from.

WASH wasn't Tiki.......There was .Just one song about a guy that Smuggled Rare gems out of the jungle in Pineapples.
Which came about as a concept from a trip to a Pineapple Plantation in Hawaii.....that seemed to fit my love for Tiki years later.

We had one show at Bogart's that the entire theme was around the Pineappleman with a fake Volcano and giant Pineapple Heads. But other than that nothing else Tiki related.

It was just noise and chaos and a part of the 1990's Long Beach music scene.....(for better or worse)
We had songs about Traci Lords and a traffic cop giving someone a ticket and Soup....And people would show up just to see what stupid thing we would do next more so than for the music.....

I would love to make a Cheesy novelty album around the Pineappleman character with weird Tiki themed songs that I've already written cheesy lyrics......but for now it is just the my name, and a character from an old band, and a ficitional character that weilds a machete, and a title for a blog about Tiki stuff that was literally started as just a way to save old Myspace blogs and pictures that I couldn't easily access anymore.....(and to post future Tiki related Pictures and blogs to)

http://pineapplemantiki.blogspot.com/

Hello!
Hey I use to go to Bogarts in the 90s to see STP and Tool whenever they played.
John-O, I caught Green Jello in Hollywood back in the late 80s more then a few times
at the "Scream" on Hollywood Blvd.

Today's Tiki of the day picture is up

and a quick Tiki photo blog from the Tikis in Long Beach on 3rd street that I read about in Tiki Forums and had to go down and take pictures of myself for my Tiki Photo collection

Personally I think those Tikis from Pizza-oww-mow-mow should just quietly disappear never to be seen again. They were embarrassingly bad. I'm glad they're gone. It's tiki's like those that cheapen the whole vibe and help propagate crap like the clown tiki stuff from Party City. Not all Tiki is good Tiki.

[edited to fix typo]

I think they matched the theme of spirit of the area....which is a theme park with rides based on cartoons.
I actually like the 2 that were in front of the surf Themed restaurant......The smaller ones Not so Much.

What do you expect inside a theme park next to a Macdonald's with a giant oversized ufo Hamburger.
I think there is room for a whole bunch of different styles of Tiki...

If someone would give me those 2 giant Tikis I would make sure they found a home.
