Hi Friends, I'm posting information for a dear friend Roge. Wendy

IN HIS OWN WORDS!

A NOTE FOR THE NEAR FUTURE: WE WILL BE PRESENTING A NEW TIKI LAMP DESIGN. THERE WILL BE CHOICES AVAILABLE FOR CUSTOMIZING YOUR TIKI ISLAND HANGING LAMP. (Nov 30th, this evening photos & description, west coast time)

WENDY CEVOLA IS NATIONALLY KNOWN FOR HER TIKI SCULPTING. SHE MADE THE ORIGINALS AND WE ARE MAKING MOLDS AND CASTINGS AND COMBINING THEM INTO A GREAT LOOKING RED ROCK TIKI LAMP. WE PLAN ON HAVING PHOTOS UP BY tonight November 30th, Pacific coast time around 6 to 8 p.m.

IF YOU ARE A FAN OF HAWAII, EASTER ISLAND, TIKIS, THEN take a look, see you tonight!

This Tiki Lamp has been a fun design project. I contacted Wendy Cevola to sculpt the Tiki Head and the Easter Island statue. So thanks to her artistic nature, we have the heads. I made a mold off and cast them using a red resin (per Wendy’s request) which has become part of the rock panel sides. Real Lava Rock has been added to the black putty seams. You can choose to have solid red resin rocks or a mixture of red rocks with black poured around each one to restrict the light coming through. Ask for a design form to be emailed to you.

Measurements are 15 lbs, 10.5” wide x 15.5” high, a four sided rectangle with an open bottom for down light and a closed top. The lamp is wired with 15 ft of chain and 18’ of wire/plug/on-off switch and 2 ceiling hooks.

The time it takes to make a unit is between 2 and 3 weeks.

To Order or view his lamps go to this link later tonight. 11/30/11.

This is the lamp I ordered from Roge in colors of my choice.

Roge is the original resin chunk lamp artist from the 1960's. I thrilled to have been able to do the sculptures of the tikis for this lamp. You can customize your order to your favorite colors, check it out friends. Cheers, Wendy

PS step by step images of this lamp as it is manufactured are on my "other crafts" thread.

Those lamps look great! Added to my wish list!

Hi Friends, Roge is working on a less labor intensive version of his tiki lamp. He hopes to make it more affordable at around $200. I'll post photos as soon as they are available. Meanwhile for fun you can always check out his Etsy site. Wendy

Hi Friends, Roge is hard at work this weekend filling orders and ready for more. I don't have photos of the less expensive one yet but when I do I'll be posting for him. Thanks for checking back.

Every lamp can be done in the colors of your choice. Wendy

I just got one of these fantastic chunky lights-packed with lots of care-arrived in record time in great condition! I have my eye on the red one showing above....might have to give up rum for a few days to buy it! Well worth it-quality workmanship-even better than my original ones! Thanks for your quality craftsmanship! Mahalo! The blue and green glow gives my Mai Tais a great look!

Quasimodo57, can you share a picture of the one you got? (I would love to see a blue and green version!)

Me too. I'm going to have to remind him I am supposed to get photos. I am so happy you like your lamp. I don't even have one yet. Cheers, Wendy

Hey Mikeytiki, If you don't want to wait for a posted photo, you can click on the link at the top of this thread. It'll take you to Roger's Etsy store. If you look at the ones he has already sold, you'll see the blue/green one. Quasimodo57 is one lucky guy; that one is gorgeous! ~murphdog

Hey Murphdog, I believe the one he bought has smaller chunks and my tiki heads. I'm looking forward to finding out if my guess is right. Wendy

Nice!

M

Sorry, Wendy! Then like MikeyTiki, I would really like to see that one too! Thanks for bringing this artist to our attention. I've been adding his lamps to my wish list on Etsy and hoping that my husband takes the hint!

~murphdog

I haven't hung the lamp in its final location, but will take some photos. This lamp has the large chunks, which looks pretty cool. Photos to be posted later this week.....

Roger I'm sure would say thank you TikiG.
murphdog who would guess you are female with that name! Wish lists are good.
Quasimodo57 I'm looking forward to seeing your photos.

I was with Roger today in Grass Valley viewing his newest creations and orders he is filling.

I'm baaaaack! Roge just sent me a photo showing the new small size. He hopes to keep it around $200 but he's still crunching numbers. The tikis are the same size he just took some off the top and bottom of the panel.

W

Hi Wendy and all, Roger emailed me a pre-shipping photo of my lamp. It has to cure a few more day, I can hardly wait to get it.

Mahalo!
Chris

The tiki faces look cool on these lamps! Like the latest color combination too. Thinking about my post-Xmast order!!! Which one do I select-all look fantastic and quality workmanship, not made in China on these! Mahalo!

Hey WestAdad, we saw it up close and personal and it is truly beautiful Roge is the man of lamps. Just think he's the real deal from the 60's.

Quasimodo57 we will have our next lamp in around two weeks. It will gave you even more color combos to ponder.

I'd love some feedback on this. I may be sculpting a Bumatay for his lamps. We would like to do one and add some resin shells and starfish to the chunks. We love the Bumatay fish face from the Islander mugs. Comments welcome, Wendy

Wendy, I would be thrilled to have a chunk Bumatay lamp.

Cool WestADad, Roge is working on a new lamp design just for this fish! Also he is making a multi-colored lamp for us and I'll have photos soon. Thank your for you note. Wendy

Awesome pics

Cool, a budget priced red Tiki lamp, good idea. I think I like the two-tone (or three) lamps best, were you combine red orange and black, or green and blue and a similar shade.

One thing also has to be taken into consideration: Digital photography does an inadequate job at separating such highly saturated colors, they all sort of gel together. In person, resin lamps look even better and more yummy than in pictures.

Sven, thanks for your note. It is so true that its hard to capture these in photos. They look so much better in person. Wendy

Christmas came early this year!:

Red resin sunrise:

The Tikis are impressed:

This Unexpected Flying Object...

...fell right into place in my living room:

Thank You Chris, and thank you Roger and Wendy!

Time for a close up!:

:) :) :)

Sven,

Looks great, really brightens up the place for the holidays. Nice addition to the light collection.

W

Fantastic!

Did it really weigh 18 pounds Sven? Need a stout ceiling anchor for that beasty.

Yup, it's solid, dense resin. You don't want that to drop on your foot.
I must admit I did it the lazy way:

That is an old-style, well-anchored vent. It was in the perfect spot, right over the TV coffee table. :)

Hi Sven, WestADad was your Santa from beginning to end. The joy he felt in doing something incredibly nice for you really brought the spirit of Christmas back home. In fact it brought it into your home!

Roge and I were very happy that he shared his goal of being your Santa with us. We have felt his excitement each day as the lamp made its journey south. Your posting of all these photos has been a joy for both him and for us.

WestADad, your 8 year old son has a super father. I am floored by your generosity. Sven, Roge and I have a terrific new/old friend. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. What a great guy you are.

Sven, I'm super happy that you have this lamp in your home thanks to WestADad. Here's a few photos of your lamp in the shop. Your lamp is also in photos on
page 1.

Hey WestADad do you have a photo to share? You pulled it off you really surprised him. Christmas Cheers, Wendy

I got my lamp yesterday, it is great! I don't have any idea where I'm going to hang it yet but I will eventually.

The thing is amazing when lit. Sven and Wendy, I hope you enjoy your lamps as much as I will enjoy mine.

[ Edited by: WestADad 2011-12-23 06:49 ]

Chris the blues are beautiful too - they radiate almost as much light as you do

Mine is the night light of choice in my living room now. I see it a soon as I open the door. :)

Thank you Mike for the compliment, I appreciate it!

Sven, maybe someday you'll be able to give me a complete tour of Tiki Island above the Silver Lake. I would be thrilled.

Happy Holidays!

C'mon by anytime - providing I am not on the other side of the globe making the mortgage money. Winter is safe, the weather over there being too bad for shooting...unlike here, as my current front yard view shows:

Hi Sven do you still have three trampolines in your front yard? We would love to visit with WestADad someday.

Here are the lamps that will be hung soon in our home. It will give you all ideas on how you too may customize a lamp. The multicolored one is just Moais no God of light. Roge will do them any way you like.

Merry Christmas, Wendy

Cool Kahaka, we love tiki visitors we have one tonight from Pasadena.

Roge has shared his brochure from his lamp company from 1962. These specific lamps are not for sale, check Etsy for what is. He keeps coming up with new designs and I will be doing some more tiki related sculpts for him. Cheers, Wendy

Wendy, serendipity is a terrific thing! When we saw your post on Sven’s beautiful Red Tiki Lamp that was a Christmas present from WestADad, we clicked over to Roge Bodine’s Etsy site. Pat, my wife, then decided that I would get a Blue & Green Tiki Lamp as a birthday present, so an order was placed.

In correspondence, Roge shared his Laguna Lamps story and brochure, the one you just posted. When I looked through the brochure, I realized that I had just seen at least one of his lamps in the Hawaiian Inn at Daytona Beach (see Tiki Modern, pages 260 & 261). So I sent Roge this photo I had taken on December 17 from inside the Polynesian show area. He confirmed it was a Laguna Lamps Model R-102...

When Pat and I returned to Ohana Luau in the Hawaiian Inn for this past weekend’s New Year’s Eve party, I made a mental note to get a few more photos, presented below. Three of those lamps have been hanging inside the Polynesian show area for almost 50 years. It’s possible that there are a few more that I didn’t notice, as we were pretty busy socializing, drinking, eating and watching the show.

As you enter through this door, the first lamp presents itself in multi-color splendor (you can see it through the door glass)...

There are two more in the show area...

Mahalo, Wendy, for this thread... as a result, I’m receiving a beautiful Tiki lamp for my birthday next week, and we discovered yet another retro modern aspect of this historic Poly Pop “port of call.”

Happy Day TTD - nice score for your place, I'm counting pennies for one of those crystal matrix tiki lamps. Gonna change the weather if I can find an Altrusian pylon. Very cool that they are still in use in your neck of the woods.

That is cool Tom, looking forward to pictures of your lamp.

The same "Laguna Lamps" also hang (hung?) in the original lobby of the the Tropics Motel n Palm Springs:

Very nice to see the old Laguna Lamps hanging in places of Tiki nobility.

I wonder if these two whoppers that hung at the Castaways Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas came from Laguna Lamps?

DC

Mmmmm... I have several chunk resin lamps... I've never noticed a Laguna Lamp name on them. Do the originals have a logo or name on them? Anybody know?
