Hey Tipsy thank you. I'll pass on your idea to Roge. He's constantly working on new designs.

bigbrotiki it is so much fun to have you watch what we are doing.

Cheers, Wendy

The lamps keep getting better and better! I saw these two cool vintage Moai table lamps on ebay and wondered if they were Roge's work?

DC

Hi Dusty Cajun, well this is a small world. MadDogMike shared the making of your tiki wine glass with me step by step and now I get to talk to you.

The answer is no they are not his. He did chunk lamps without tiki or other extras. He didn't have any tikis associated with them until I did the sculpts of the Moai and Sun God.

Next up from Roge will be the Bumatay lamp with sea life creatures. He just got them molded. We go see him next week to design the lamp we want. Soon after he'll take orders. I'll post when he is ready with examples.

Are you bidding on those lamps? Cheers, Wendy

Last week we drove to Grass Valley to see Roge.

Here's a report on the Bumatay Chunk lamps.

These are the masters for each sea creature.

Roge is developing the Bumatay he'll offer for sale.

It is always fun to see what he has accomplished. I ordered a Bumatay lamp for us so in less than a month I'll have photos for you.

Cheers, Wendy

Here's Roge's site for orders. He has pre made Tiki Lamps for sale now.

I would love to be able to buy a clay or resin bumatay, do you think Roge would be down?

Hale Tiki Roge stays in his shop working. To buy a lamp just check out his Etsy site. You can special order your favorite colors. Check out Steve's below.

Yesterday we headed up the highway to Grass Valley to Roge shop. It was time to pick up our Bumatay Lamp. These lamps do not photograph well when lit but they look great in person.

I brought the tikis with the new bases added on for him to mold. Then he'll offer two versions. One that hangs on the wall and one that stands on its own. Those could be set on a window ledge with the light shining through.

This is my Bumatay Lamp. If you look hard you will see that some of the chunks are actually sea creatures from puffer fish to octopuses.

Roge gave us a gift of a photo of a lamp that he had enlarged. Very cool.

We got a sneak peek at Steve Soto's lamp in progress. It was a beautiful color choice.

Roge has gone back to his roots and pulled out another design. This one is not a box it is a tube. Lights on.

Lights off.

Miguel shows his work.

Here is a tiki free lamp.

Their work is for sale on Roge. Here's the link.

Roge just made it easier to order the statues. Wendy

Got mine, Roger & Wendy did a great job on these!

Wow...that clear chunk lamp is pretty awesome. The statues look great.

Thank you and Roge thanks you.

Atomic Tiki Punk what color did you choose?

VampiressRN did you hang your lamp?

Cheers and Happy 4th of July, Wendy

Roge who makes the chunk lamps also turns our tikis into statues. He first did the Moai and now he wants the Bumatay Fish as a statue. I use a small heater to melt the Roma #3 clay. It is so hard that this speeds up the process.

I added it to the back of the Bumatay to make it more substantial as a statue.

Decades ago I took the exam to enter dental school. One of the things we had to do was carve plaster blocks into a key and a lock. I've found that to work well with clay projects. So to the fish I added an extended bottom as the key. Then into the base I carved the lock.

Back view. When fitted together I will add clay to seal the key into place but first I need to finish the base.

I removed clay to add waves to the base.

Now I will add clay to lock the pieces together.

All done. It's time to visit Roge in Grass Valley.

I'll let you know when these are available. Meanwhile he has lots of tiki lamps available as ready made or order your own colors on his etsy site.

Cheers, Wendy

The Bumatay/Sea Life Lamps are now available from Roge. You can ask him about color choices.

Here's some of his work that we saw on our trip yesterday. Also I added a base to a Bumatay so that Miguel and he could cast them as statues like the Moai Head.

The lights are not bright like in these last photos. You can see all the chunks and colors. My camera does strage things. Wendy

Great pictures Wendy. My ceiling project is at a stand-still, guess it wasn't meant to happen this year. My main focus now is trying to get my 10' Tiki secured in the dining room. May have to wait till later to get my lamps hung. I really dig all the colors but that clear one is also very kewl.

Amazing stuff....wow!

Hi Vamp and Amy, I'll send your notes on to Roge.

I forgot to mention that this shows all the sea creatures that I sculpted in all the available colors for the sea life lamp.

There are puffer fish, turtles, angle fish, starfish, octopus, shells. To see them in detail up close just back up on this thread.

Roge's lamps are incredible. Cheers, Wendy

Miguel found some old wooden tikis like the carvers sell at the International Market Place across from Waikiki Beach on Oahu. They cast them in Resin and they are now for sale on Etsy. Check them out they are beautiful.

I'm going to turn my sculpts for Roge lamps into ceramics for mugs and bowls. So I just made the molds of the puffer fish, turtles and seahorses. This should be fun. It will take a couple of weeks for the mold to dry.

Meanwhile has built up some stock so check out his store, Wendy

Here's the link to my molds of the sea creatures.

Dan and I just went to the South San Francisco Bay Crawl. We had the very best time at each stop.

At The Aumakua Hai in San Jose, CA we saw one of Roge's lamps hanging in there hut/bar area. They have one more to hang in the future but we were lucky enough to see this one in place. Because they were hanging it so high up they added the tapa to the bottom, I love that touch.

Roge has stock on hand and takes custome orders!

http://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtLampDesignByRoger?page=1

Just a small bump for Roge chunk lamps.

I've made a mold of all the sea creatures and now I'm able to make necklaces and mugs using them. If you had one of his lamps you could have me make a matching mug! Just a thought. Cheers, Wendy

Slip in the mold.

Excess slip poured out.

Diver's Cove in progress.

Puffer necklaces.

Sea Turtle necklaces.

I've just started to mess with these new pieces but Roge has stock on hand. Check out his lamps on Etsy.

He has chunk lamps ready to sell and he takes special orders. Check out this thread to see how these lamps are a part of tiki culture.

Cheers, Wendy

Back from the past. Roge has made a new mold of an old design and he's ready for orders. This lamp is so super cool. We grabbed this one for ourselves.

Wendy,

This is one of my fav threads here. This is an amazing design.

It's because the Celebrity Sports Center was started by Walt.

Thank you so much for the photos. I'll send them on to Roge this morning. He's enjoying being a blast from the past and reviving his styles. He is also making the tubular designs shown in these photos. It is a dream come true to look back and to see them gracing this establishment.
Wendy

A history note:

I Also sold lamps wholesale through a retail store in Disneyland called “Phil Papel Imports” (not sure if this was his distributor name or retail name but the time was about 1962 or 3).

Roge has a new design that is a bird house. I told him we need one that looks like a Tiki Hut.

Please share your photos of huts that would make a great chunk lamp. Cheers, Wendy

Roge has his new 103 Pyramid swag lamp on Etsy. It's my favorite. Please check it out.

A few posts back you can see these hung back in the 60's. View the Kiara post.

Roge of the Chunk Lamp fame came for a visit. We had a blast showing our collection to him. In addition he was able to verify that the chunk lamp we found years ago was made by him. It is on top of the bookcase right above his head.

Here he is examining it.

Then we took him to Dan's man cave to see where we hung a lamp we recently acquired. Again one of his. He said that the panels were made in 1978 (the year Dan and I married) and that he put it together this year! Lucky us.

It's hard to photograph the detail when the light it on so here's a photo with it off.

He said these chunk lamps can be different colors with differently colored light bulbs. He suggested we try purple in the future. What a great idea.

Check out his eBay and Etsy sites for sales. Cheers, Wendy

For my Christmas present Dan let me pick out another chunk lamp by Roge. This style is one of his vintage styles that you can see in past historic photos. He had these for sale on Etsy. It's beautiful. He'll make them for you in your favorite colors. When I have it hung I'll post more photos.

Thank you Roge for bringing these back. Wendy

This is a small side project I've been working on for Roge. He will use it with the base as a stand alone resin tiki and without the base on his resin chunk lamps. He's back from his vacation and ready to take orders. I'll add these photos to his Marketplace thread with the link to Etsy.

I took a shortcut and added sculptors clay to a Easter Island Tiki.

Then I used the large grain sandpaper to make texture.

All done.

Here's the link for Roge on Etsy. You can find from this link all his styles. He does custom orders for your favorite colors.

W

Looking forward to more on this Moai project!

Looks great!

Chris

Thank you WestADad, I'm looking forward to the casts of this whole body statue too.

HELP

Roge just asked me what to call the new statue. Moai with a hat doesn't sound good enough. What would the people of Easter Island call it?

Cheers, Wendy

Dapper Dan the Moai man. :)

Edgar with an Easter Bonnet :)

Masterson the elegent Moai :)

Maboomba Moai :)

Thank you tigertail777, Dan liked his best but its all up to Roge.

The sculpt I did for Roge has now been molded and has gone into production. It can be bought from him as a stand alone statue or as part of a tiki lamp. This is his Etsy sight. He also sells on eBay.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtLampDesignByRoger?ref=seller_info

You can see the size differences between my past sculpt and the new one.

I put them back to back for fun.

He will customize lamps and statues to the colors of your choice.

Thanks for looking, Wendy
