Hey! It´s been a while since my last post here so it´s good to be back  We recently bought a new flat and came up with the idea of transforming one room to a tiki room... We painted the room and the plan was to keep it like that and just add a bar and some lamps. I´m not gonna do anything about the ceiling, my wife loves it the way it is
My plan is to cover the walls next to the bar with lauhala, but should i go with some other matting instead? Mahalo! |

Just a little Bamboo trim would give the bar a more finished look |

How fun...I'm sure you will end up adding some hanging lamps to complement that ceiling. The room color is good and looking forward to seeing your finished bar. Keep up the great work. |

I covered my bars walls with Lauhala matting, and although it looked great I felt it looked a bit 'new'. So I painted my walls with a matt 'teak' varnish and it gave the Lauhala an aged look. It also gives a bit of contrast. Also you could try to use a larger weave on the walls than on the bar and that would give a contrast also. |

Bear: Thanks! I put an ad in the local newspaper "looking for a woman, must be a professional steamer". I also tried to iron on a wet towel, worked fine but i guess your way is better... Thanks for the answer! |

"New walls". Had to put plywood on the wall What is the reason for plywood over the the dry wall? Is that to staple the lauhala matting? |

MaukaHale: Exactly! The walls isn´t drywall, it´s some kind of plaster... too hard for the staples |

TSB, I just used a standard iron on the matting and if it was a bit stubborn misted it with some water and then ironed it.(P.S. I bought a cheap iron especially for the job as it does scratch it). |

I decorated 1 of the rooms in my house last year with Hawaiian Decor. I used some tiki masks and a couple of surfboard signs. Tiki Masks make great looking Hawaiian Decor. I recently ordered one from * spam link removed* Everybody gives me compliments about it. [ Edited by: Hakalugi - spam link removed - 2012-09-20 18:46 ] |

Considering that Matt101's "homepage" is the same website he mentioned as having great looking stuff...for sale, the answer is a resounding yes. Link removed. Matt101, if you want to plug your business, be honest about it and buy a banner ad. |

Some progress... It´s been pretty hard to build, work and study during the same time. And of course, building a tiki bar isn´t the easiest. I salute you people who have built those amazing bars! This took some time, but turned out pretty good... Next to do is some bamboo trim Planning to build a roof for the bar as well... Some bottles waiting to move in. Looking really great! Some of those rum bottles looks a bit full to me. Perhaps we should all drop by and help even out the bottles. :)
