Mahalo Chris and VampiressRN!

started working on three pendant lamps for over the bar. Went to this super cool local shop http://www.facebook.com/generalsalvageltd?ref=ts&fref=ts
and picked up some rope and pulleys.

Cut the bottom off the Kraken bottles, two worked one didnt (cracked) but I have a spare. Socket and hardware fit perfectly.

Last night I painted the inside of one of the bottles with flat black Krylon paint. Seems to be sticking pretty good.

next steps are to wrap some rope around the neck and figure out how to attach the bottle to the pulley (knots hooks or?)
I might also make a fimo octopus to wrap around the middle lamp, not sure tho...

Anyways, Ill post more pics when Im done.

thanks for peeking in!
Darren

Love the idea of the pendant lamps, too cool!
It's fun to cut those Kraken Bottle butts off isn't it? I take the bottoms off to make my Beachcomber Lamps.

Sweet lamp!
How do you cut yours?
I tried the burning yarn and ice water thing, and that didn't work too well...ended up scoring with a glass cutter then using my propane torch to GENTLY heat it then dunked it in ice water. Those bottle sure have an inconsistent thickness....But they just scream I WANNA BE A LAMP! :)

Thanks,
I score, heat and dunk like you did... It usually works. :D
If the bottoms were not so thick it would be really easy but you're right they are perfect for lamps and it's worth it.

ok party is over, back to work..

I need to finish those Kraken lamps.
Ive also been thinking about making some end tables for either side of my rattan sofa.

This is what Ive come up with.

rough dimensions 3.5'L 2.5'H 16"W
should be fairly cheap and easy to build.

Finished off the bamboo work on the bottom here

Picked up the matching shelf to the one we have had for a decade from my in laws

Shelf was too tall, so I made a coffe table out of the top piece

Bought a new truck :D

Worked on my end tables.

Made a new lamp

This is how the end tables look as of right now, still need some work.
They ended up a bit different from my 3D plans... But I still like em.

That's it for now. Mahalo for checking it out

Thanks and thanks :)

The fireplace/heater is just an inexpensive unit that we picked up at Canadian Tire (hardware store).
It keeps the space warm all winter long, when/if it drops below about -2c (28f)we might use blankets as well. I plan on re-facing it with some 1x? pine, with a routed out cook islands design. And when I finish the space under this room (nautical theme) it will be heated with a baseboard so that should help keep everything toasty all winter :)

My Tiki space started off as a Japanese "style" deck, an extension of our Japanese garden.
The deck is on three levels each one 10'x 18'

in June 2010 I put a roof over the mid level deck

That's the same sign I have...now if I could only be as creative as you in your bar and deck design!

In March 2012 my wife and I went to Hawaii for the first time, and I bought a cheesy Tiki bar sign...
Wife "but you dont have a Tiki bar"
Me "well I could make one"
When we got home I found this site. Oh shit.

April 2012 started the "conversion" Japanese to Tiki shouldn't be that hard....
Walled in and lightly insulated the roofed mid deck (that Philippine mask is long gone)

needed a bar

June 2012 needed a roof over the new bar..

Faux bamboo on bar front

Aug 2012 making some progress.

Nov 2012 that's the sign, I got rid of it for a while but put it back up somewhere else because i like it...and its the reason Im here... Im sure Ill get rid of it eventually, but for now its staying! and so is the TV!

I dont have any current pics of the covered mid deck (the lounge) but it has progressed since Nov.
Lately Ive been working on routering for trim around the bar itself. Ill post more pics shortly.

This summers projects:
Outdoor Tiki kitchen on lower level
wall in upper deck (most of it)
shipwreck bar under the lounge.

Mahalo for lookin
