Very interesting. Looks like they may have swapped out the bottles of booze behind the bar with tiki mugs for that shoot. If so, maybe this was done to to prevent recognition of brands, labels, and bottles. I can't imagine any bar owner not putting bottles on display and within easy reach. |

Columbo S03E05 "Publish Or Perish" - 1974 The murderer — played by returning baddy Jack Cassidy — stages an alibi by getting trashed at a Polynesian-theme cocktail bar during a short scene at the beginning of the episode. Like nearly all Columbo episodes it was filmed in Los Angeles, and since the show was frequently shot on location I assume this isn't a set. Other locations in the episode hint at it being filmed in the western end of the San Fernando Valley. Based purely on what Critiki has, I wonder if this is "Club Tiki", but it could be anywhere in LA. The interior decor is quite elaborate, with thatched huts. There aren't any better shots of the exterior signage or the bar itself than these, alas. Anyone able to identify it? |

I like how it's such a parody of Tales of the Gold Monkey that in one episode Pam looks right into the camera and says "Not a golden monkey." |

I'm kinda surprised nobody has mentioned this last season of Survivor was chock full of tikis featured around the council fire. I happened to catch the end of the finale and was surprised to see so many. I wonder if some were shipped in from OA? |

Filming in Hawaii has started on the Magnum P.I. reboot. Some tiki was seen in the previous (original) with Tom Selleck. We'll have to wait and see what this series brings us when it's broadcast. http://www.staradvertiser.com/2018/07/24/hawaii-news/filming-begins-on-magnum-p-i-reboot/ |

Not only are the opening credit graphics amazing, on par with "The Incredibles" opening/closing sequences, but the final episode is just jam packed with Tikis. They enter a tomb at the base of a volcano through a large "Skull Island" skull through a door with a bas relief Tiki motif to find a sacred idol. They end up in this room featuring Tiki carvings on all the walls, three huge Tikis, six Tiki stools that open the mouth of a large Tiki face to reveal the Tiki idol. One of them asks for a Mai Tai and says "This whole place looks like a vintage Trader Vic's"

What does YouTube classify as? Definitely closer to TV than it is film so i think this is the most appropriate thread for this. There's a cooking channel i watch on YouTube called "Binging With Babish" and the other day there was a special episode where he went to Orlando for a particular reason and stayed at a BNB there and in the backyard was this carving. Is it a Wayne Coombs? |

I'm late to the game with Silicon Valley. Just worked my way through all five seasons over the past few weeks. There was plenty of tiki imagery throughout the series including a scene at Forbidden Island. Big Head's "big head" was a highlight though. |

I enjoyed this episode on the tiki room. Are these people on TC? I would like to ask the woman a question about her car which is shown at the episode beginning. |

I don't know if this mentioned before but today I had a lazy Saturday morning with one of our kids and we watched The Simpsons. The second episode they showed was: The wiki-waka-liki-laka Mr.Burns. A reference to Disney's Enchanted tiki room. Homer takes Mr.Burns place and when in his office he activates the song: |

Mrs Maisel, I believe Episode 5 from Season 3, has a scene that seems like a frame for frame copy (tribute?) to the club scene in I Am Cuba. It really came out of nowhere and is just so obscure and random, I can’t imagine many people would get the reference but it’s pretty cool. I snapped a couple shots... They also mimicked the old Playboy After Dark with Lenny Bruce. |

Last year I watched the 1994 TV series Thunder in Paradise starring Hulk Hogan. It was from the creators of Baywatch and shot in central Florida. I knew of it but never saw it when it originally aired, so when a podcast I listen to did an episode on the series, I decided to check it out. As one might suspect, it's pretty campy, but I still enjoyed it (I really love the theme song way more than I should). Anyway, at the end of the fifth episode ("Strange Bru"), Hulk and his character's former fiancée race motorcycles past a Wayne Coombs tiki: Here's the point in the episode where the tiki is featured for about six seconds: |
