Hello all, I have slowly developed an itch for Tiki over the last couple of years and decided this summer to take the plunge. My home is not my own so I can’t take a room and make it all Tiki. However, I decided to make a bar to fit the sitting area attached to my kitchen. After visiting the "Inferno Room" and "Max's" I was inspired to create a design. Hopefully these posts will give you some idea of how it progressed. First a picture of the “finished” bar and the area I am working with. Also included are the design mocked up in Tinkercad. The base cabinets were unfished from Home Depot stained in ebony. I attached the decorative pieces to these. The upper shelves are all made from scratch. Pine boards with routed designs. I finished them by staining in ebony, sanding the high spots and then staining again in red maple. The shelves are made from old barn siding. |

The most involved part was pouring the epoxy counter top. I had an idea to use the old barn wood “floating” on the blue. I had done smaller epoxy projects in the past so knew a little bit of how it would go. I’d do a couple of things different but overall was I am very happy with the result. |

A couple other side projects were carving a Moai head and making some syrup bottles. I am lucky enough to have access to a woods. I was able to get a couple of Sassafras logs to carve. This Moai head was my first attempt. If you don’t know about Sassafras is a common tree in the Midwest. Its soft and has an amazing smell when carved. You can make a lovely tea from its roots. I am not terribly happy with the base as I just round off the corners and made a simple stand. Hopefully on the next try I can get closer to neck and body shapes the original artists used. The glass bottles are small and hold no more than 2 cups of liquid. Perfect size for my needs and since I have a background in glass blowing why not make some bottles. |

I found it on Amazon. They call it Bac Bac matting. I am sure you can find it elsewhere. |
