Lifetime: Television For Tikis!

Pages: 1 2 91 replies

I say ditch the bitch!!! Is some woman done that to me I world throw her skank ass and the lifetime crew to the curb!!!
Destroying my tikis is a call for DIVORCE
Destroying tikis should be a crime

D

Hell-O??? The show hasn't even aired yet. She might not be the HAG we seem to want her to be. He might not be the TOOL he appears to be. Even though, Hag and Tool did go on a TV show to talk about and try to work out their differences, for the world to judge them is inevitable. But then to put up a poll asking that thier future life together be judged. Makes the whole thing seem lamer (is lamer a word?). I am questioning Dave not being a TC Member yet? How "INTO" Tiki is he really? I am sure down deep it mustn't be a real issue for him or they wouldn't be together in the first place. Either way I am sure they deserve each other, and I hope are happy together in their little furniture, Tiki free life. That just means more Tiki's for me!

Just watched the show. She's a hag. I felt the show was created for sappy pathetic women who like to watch other people getting married. Not a show about home decoration.

Being a non-pathetic, married woman, I was completely bored and I wanted to know what happened to all of his tiki goods. Notice when she saw the tikis on the wall she went "Oh.....................tikis"

What a hag.

It didn't help that the designer and Miss Colagen lips both had it out against the tiki bar.

I may have blinked and missed it, but the only tiki I saw was the cheap plastic one on his bar. The other items were a mix of asian and african pieces.

I think that couple will work out well. She's a control freak and he seems happy with that. I sincerely wish them all the best.

Shows like that make me especially thankful for TIVO. Got through the whole mess in about six minutes flat. Don't think I'll be adding it to my weekly lineup.

Just saw the episode...a couple of observations:

  1. Rebecca repeatedly referred to their new house as "my house." i.e. 'I just don't see this tiki bar in MY house." David is either whipped or wasted...probably wasted having to listen to that vooyccce of hers. How annoying...his name was David, wasn't it?

  2. David was obviously pissed when he saw his custom made tiki bar heading off to charity. I just loved how the show hosts laughed as they discussed "who would want this" when they loaded it onto the truck. Hopefully it found a good home.

  3. The only tiki items that I saw in the new home were a couple of masks that were hung in a corner somewhere. In Davids old house he had several tiki statues on the mantle over his fireplace. What happened to those? I'm sure the painted mask was tossed in the chipper.

  4. I have to say that the new house was very nicely done, but definitely more to her taste than his.

Overall, I thought the show totally sucked. Not just because of their issues with tiki. For a show that's supposed to be reality there seemed to be an awful lot of acting..and OVERacting...my God, gimme a break. It was totally ridiculous.

I'm off to the Merge web site to vote some more and maybe leave some comments in their forum. And yes...at the moment I don't have anything better to do.

Aloha

That's a great new cartoon series you just created there... HAG & TOOL

from the creators of the classic Russian cartoon: WORKER & PARASITE (anybody seen it???)

I think they over-hyped the whole TiPSY (tm) factor. I agree with Suburban Hipster, it wasn't all that Tiki. I did see what looked like some coco joes on the mantle. Now if anything like that ever happened here @ the Tacky Techie Tiki Bar...heads would roll. It's a constant nightmare that the "While You Were Out" show came around while I was away and decided to spruce up my basement bar by throwing all my stuff away. That's why I put in a webcam!

Isn' that from the Simpson's? Jeez, I really am going to kill my TV!

Did anyone else notice that the decorator looked a lot like our very own Otto Von Strohiem? Maybe it was his evil twin...
The guy's tiki pad didn't even rate a TiPSY factor of one. I think I would have thrown all of their crap in the shredder and started fresh.

****** WARNING - TIKI BONG OBSERVATION *****

You know, this whole reality TV thing going on, including this type of production, is nothing more than a mirror held up to today's do nothing, lame-ass society in general.

What exactly does it say about us when we'd rather sit in front of a television watching other people live their (so called) lives? People we would not even otherwise hang out with or consider their insight to be of any functional use.

Jesus Christ (and not in a good way), what are we going to learn from some teenage or 20-something, lackluster pin-head (not that all teenagers or 20 something pinheads are dumbshits), but...

What pisses people off most about this type of truth is the fact that it takes NO monetary appropriation to DO something, anything.

Watching other people do ordinary things has got to be the single most waste of ones life there can possibly be.

In essense, two people (or more depending on number of "prime time viewers"!) are living the life of one.

I guarantee that if asked on your deathbed what do you wish you could've done, your answer won't be watch others live, it will be - I wish I could have lived...

(now 'move' god damnit!)

HOLY CRAP!!!!

Did anyone notice the style of the bar??? Anyway to get a pic of it up??

It's probably sitting in a big warehouse next to the Windtalkers bar and a few others collecting dust!

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Reality TV is recycled trash. Same with the new "dating game" shows. My wife (after bugging me for years) insisted I buy her a TV for the master bedroom, I caved and bought her one, (come on guys 2 years). Now I'm happy to say there will be no TV in the master bedroom in our new house. Praise God (in a good way).

TV in the bedroom serves one purpose: PORN! I recommend keeping it around (and VCR and DVD player) for that purpose.

Man, have I missed you.

Feng Shui Porn is OK.

Another thing about reality TV that ought to give viewers pause is that most of these productions cost so little to produce compared to traditonal programming. You don't need to hire talented writers. You don't need highly paid actors and actresses. The locations and sets are usually cheap, unless you're doing Survivor in the middle of the South Pacific, and even then you don't have to buy the stars any food.
We don't do TV in the bedroom either.

Ahhh, it's nice my snark was missed. We're like ships passing in the night--you're moving to LA, C and I are moving to Portland. Will we never be together?!

T

There is no longer much of a difference on TV between news and entertainment, reality and fiction. The purpose of news used to be to inform the public of current events. Now it's sheer entertainment (at least on TV it is). Likewise, entertainment TV used to be mainly fiction (sitcoms, crime dramas, etc.) or variety shows. Now you turn on the TV and it's all these supposed real people doing stupid things.

There's nothing wrong with entertainment but seeing cops chasing people around isn't what I call entertaining.

When Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" originally was broadcast on the radio in the 1930s or 1940s many people thought we were really being invaded by martians because it sounded like a real newscast. That kind of thing is bound to happen again, on TV.

Now back to our regular TC programming ...

What Happened? By the time the show broadcast in HST (Hawaii standard time) they switched to an old episode. I was excited to see it go down, when on came a completely different couple. Did they think showing it in Hawaii would upset the Gods? or did complaints from TC cause them to pull it?

I guess we'll never know....

Reminder to all: no Political talk in TC.

May I suggest this list of "Lifetime's" Absolute Bottom 50 Movies:

Isn't the entire Tiki Culture a blurring of reality and entertainment?

M

Pretty deep there, JT. And true.

And my apologies to Hanford and the board for violating the rules for a cheap joke.

T

My apologies also for violating the policies for a cheap joke.

However, cheap jokes stemming from non-banned subjects will continue on cue!

I disagree, it has nothing to do with reality. It's a complete escape from reality!

I recommend #48. Moistened by Danger

Was that that the sequel to #36 Stiffened Resolve? And , what about the never-released Flaccid with Fear?

I love reality TV. I find real people far more fascinating that actors.

I am a shameless Survivor fanatic and Joe Schmo aficionado. I don't think that makes me a mindless twerp - it's just the sort of entertainment I prefer!

Ahhhhhh! Say it ain't true TikiFish. Oh well, I like you anyway!

Me too!

I find the History Channel to be the ultimate "reality" TV.

T

Actually, If my remote got stuck on Discovery Civiliztion, I would be a happy woman. That's about where it is 90% of the time anyway... when I'm not watching Survivor, that is!

New show comin' up "Surviving Nugent" Brought to you by Ted.

Shipwreckjoey, did you watch the History Channel tonite? "The True Story of Killing Pablo". WOW!!. I remember the news when this was happening. The U.S. Government waging war against the Colombian Medellin Drug Cartel. The hunting down and killing of Pablo Escobar, the leader of the Cartel. Fascinating story with a lot of similarities to the hunt for Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. No doubt we will find them as well. Thanks to Delta Force. Steel yourselves for war folks cuz as long as there are people like Escobar, Hussein, and Bin Laden, we will be fighting for a very long time. If you watched this show then you would know that it's absolutely necessary.

I guess I should've started a new topic on this one. Moderators?

Saw the show. It was dumb. The guy's tiki collection looked more like a couple of african masks and a bar. The wife seemed like an over bearing tramp.

Finally got around to it myself. Must echo all of the above. He just sort of seemed to be coasting through life and got snared. I hate to see Lifetime (of all channels) perpetuating terrible stereotypes of self-absorbed harpy women. I bet she was a delight at the wedding. She struck me as the kind who would kill her own mother if it was the wrong frosting on the cake. Horrible.

So this guy is allowed to keep one thing, and what does he pick? A picture of a sinking ship. The symbolism could not have been better. He could have kept the bar, but he kept the image of a disaster. heheh.

The forced enthusiasm of the host for a show with such a marginal premise was really pathetic.

Wasnt it Jerry Seinfeld who said "we can put a man on the moon why cant we put a man on the Life Network"

ok - i don't see a conflict here?
mid mod and tiki go hand in hand don't they?

i agree, my wahine and i have designated the basement (future project) as tiki bar / midcentury decor. i envision splitting the room with lighting, turning on the lighting over the tiki area when partying, dimmming it and lighting the area with womb chair, records, turntable and bertoia diamond chair when hanging out.

the living room is already her 1940's room, with victrola with 78's, her vintage cameras, fans, and hats/purses/stuff. my tiki mugs are up there now, peacefully coexisting. our stuff plays nice together.

all i have to say is thank god i do not have cable....being PRIMITIVE and all. :)

jt-- ted nugent called, he wants his show back.
