I will be PISSED OFF if it doesn't have a Beer Pong table!

Is that limbo pole from the Trader Vic's Warehouse sale?

MT

No, I'm pretty sure it's newly from Asia.

I'm surprised that the news from the last e-mail isn't on here.
I would have posted it,but I deleted the e-mail. Doh!!
it mentioned a Wine by Judd, and a Beer by Guzzling bear brewery.
exclusives for the bar.
sounds interesting.

great selection of one-of-a-kind products - and there's more to come!" says Smuggler's Cove owner Martin Cate.
Smuggler's Cove will open later this year in San Francisco.

That will create quite a conundrum for my first visit to the Cove:

Being German I like dark beer.

Knowing Judd's delicious wines I would want to try that.

A new rum must be tested!

Martin's mixology is always something to savor.

How will I feel if I partake in all four in one evening? :D

thanks for posting that Bill.

That's what a long weekend is for. Inn at the Opera is a mere stumble away.... http://www.shellhospitality.com/hotels/inn_at_the_opera/index.html

Nice hotel Haole'akamai.
0.58 mile from the Phoenix Hotel too!
Walking distance, I don't know about that neighborhood though (?).

Addendum:
Not the Smuggler's Cove neighborhood, I've been there it's nice, I was speaking of the Phoenix's neighborhood.

Mahalo for reposting about the wine and beer. They are both crazy delicious!

I am working on getting a discount code from a nearby hotel for out of town guests. I will keep you posted!

Cheers,
Martin

I love's me some Phoenix Hotel. Late night pool-a-party after the opening? Oh, hell yes. There won't be any water left after Nacho has at it.

MT

It's less than 7 blocks from Smuggler's Cove to the Phoenix Hotel. Here's a walking map.

We've walked it from Trader Vic's back to the Phoenix, in past tiki crawls, when Trader Vic's was still open on Golden Gate, and the Phoenix was our anchor hotel. It's pretty much the same route. Although the Tenderloin can be sketchy, it's not quite as bad as it used to be. We felt fairly safe in a larger size walking group that late at night. And for those that are really concerned about it, cabs should be plentiful in that area.

Woody, late night pool party shenanigans at the Phoenix sound like a plan! Cannonball!

Martiki and Smuggler's Cove are in San Francisco magazine's November issue (in a profile of 3 bars soon to open in San Francisco). I couldn't find the article on their web site to share.

Looks like we will be there in December for SF Classic Cocktail #10
Our 1 year anniversary party

Man I hope we get an opening date soon... I gotta move to Denver in late December and MUST have some Smuggler's Cove before-hand.

Jardiniere turns into a bit of a tiki restaurant for one night only.

It's opening December 8th.

Here's a link to the blurb in sfeater.

It says:

TIki Tracking

Martin Cate has announced an opening date for Smuggler's Cove: the tiki mecca-to-be is currently slated to make its flashy debut in the old Jade Bar in precisely 30 days on December 8. For background reading on the "greatest tiki bar on earth" (still the best quote ever), kindly do consult the full Smuggler's Cove coverage in the Eater Archives. [EaterWire]

Hmmm... I have no doubt SC is going to be a great place serving great drinks but do we really want it to be considered a "Tiki Bar" ??

So much effort has gone into acknowledging classic Tiki-style that this might be a move in the wrong direction (on the part of lazy or ignorant journalists).

I like the term "Exotica Rum Bar". :) That's probably more appropriate for a concept which is more ambitious that just Tiki.

My 2-cents.

I was at Sur La Table and inspired by this deco kit, I think I wanna make cupcakes for the opening night:

Perhaps, a Rum (cup)cake soaked in Orange Curacao w/ an Orgeat & Lime frosting?
