i've noticed many TC's drive vintage cars ~ do any of you live in restored homes?

visit http://www.futura-house.com
Mid Century Modern Heaven... but this site does not include our newly built tiki garden in the backyard...

We do! Love it. The old homes have so much character. You will have a ball making it your own.
My house is from 1906, we have made it totally 50's 60's inside, which does throw some people, but it works!
Have a great time with your new house !!! We have been in ours for almost 2 years.
Thanks for listing that site, I went all over town finding my house numbers, now I know. I just may need some new ones !!!

Ok, here it is... The Smileys live in a mostly original 1950's custom built home on a hill with an incredible view facing the San Francisco bay. The house had a huge room downstairs that we divided into the large Tiki Bar and on the other side the Smiley Museum. The house came with a Volcano and in the two car garage on one side there is a pit so I can change my 1959 catalina's oil easily.
PS-I might have company over this weekend, email me at with your name and phone number if you want to join us before Teaserama.

i have been looking all over the place...
has anyone ever found TIKI house numbers?

i remember a thread awhile back by bong where they found bamboo type lettering for their house number. the site was: http://www.customhousenumbers.com

they looked really good...he posted a pic of it. i cant seem to find that thread though.

Well...speaking of houses. This is the house I've made an offer on - a 1941 Cape Cod cottage, contingent on the sale of my current house. The room that projects out, with the wrought iron railing around the roof line, will be my very own tiki bar.

Then of course, the alternative to that room would be the ginormous attic that I could do up tiki style. It has two dormer windows plus double windows at each end...

We mustn't overlook the jungle garden in the back that has BAMBOO growing in it...(pointed out by my lovely daughter!

...and the wonderfully laid out workshop outbuilding where I could - GASP - begin carving!

I'm nervous as hell about this move, even though it would be a great change for my whole family...change is hard, y'know? But I fell in love with it at first sight...that oughta count for something, right? Wish me luck!

They have bamboo letters and numbers in stock at that tiki place on first about 1/2 mile south of the ballparks (forget the name -- Island Life? -- it's in the back of a Latin American furnishings store of some sort.

They have swank bars there too. If any Seattlelites haven't been in a while, it's worth a visit.

... make your own...

... select your font (on your home computer)... enlarge it on a photocopier... use graphite or saral paper to transfer the image to acrylic, medex, marine ply, sintra, or any other material... cut to shape with a band saw or scroll saw... paint/finish to the desired look... cut the top half of the letters off the photocopy and tape pattern to the desired location on your house... put two sided foam tape and blobs of silicone on the top of the backs of each cut out number/letter... line each letter up with the paper pattern and press into position on your wall... follow the same procedure for all letters and numbers... now you'rein the tiki house number business... start a website and take orders from prospective customers...

Futura Girl... http://www.pariarts.com does custom tiki signage. I had a sign made for my daughter's bedroom about a year ago. Paul from pariarts was very nice and designed several options for me to choose from. I have seen at least one person order a house number sign. Actually, the sign looks very much like the sign I ordered for my daughter's room, except that one has house numbers on it and mine does not. Check it out:

this is the sign in my daughter's room:

Aloha all!
It's fun to make address signs. I made a special one for our house with shields with a spear going through them. I really like the way it came out:

A while back I made this one for a customer of ours:

And here's another one:

They aren't too difficult to make. All you need is a scroll saw and some wood. I used redwood on these. Just print out whatever you want on your computer printer, then lightly spray mount your pattern onto the wood and cut it out. Assemble with wood glue and nails and paint with exterior paint. They should last as long as your exterior siding does!
If you don't want to make your own, I can make a set for you in whatever design you can think of. It's fun to come up with new designs. Mahalo!
