i was all planning on Hukilau 2005, but my wife is due to have our first child on the 9th. i dont think any amount of bargaining will get me a weekend pass. :(

Remember, your the man in the relationship.
When my wife doesn't like something I just tell her "DO AS I COMMAND YOU!!" then the problem is solved.

Then 5 minutes later you wake up from the dream.

or the empty mug yells back at him (I'm not refering to the wife).

"DO AS I COMMAND YOU!!" This is one I have not tried. You could always tell her you're going to bring her to the "Used Wife Store" and trade her in. That works wonders for me. :)

Latest update:
She loved the idea of doing Miami, Key West and then Hukilau. She's all for it now! Plus the prospect of Mai Tais all every day really put her in the mood! Whew!

Well good to see it is resolved, but my opinion is that it's fun to go alone or with a tiki-friendly friend. Couples don't always have to vacation together. Remember, absence makes the heart grow fonder!

Or was that "out of sight, out of mind".

Absynthe(sp) makes the heart grow fonder?

Sheesh. Yeah - that'd work here!! NOT!! Reminds me of a joke an Aussie friend of mine told us at dinner once (got only scattered chuckles!):

Best told with a heavy Sydney accent: "What worse than a male chauvinist pig? A woman that won't do what she's bloody told!"

"Do as I command you!" LMFAO! If I said that to my wife (who is considerably younger and prettier than I am) she would just look at me and laugh.

Now, I am fortunate that my semi-supportive wife sees the BIGGER PICTURE...which is this:

a.) You could be spending your money on drugs or hookers.
b.) You could be obsessed with something worse...like kiddie-porn or toy trains.
c.) You could have a hobby where you dress up like a Vulcan...or worse.
d.) You have an interest in something regarding culture...or pop-culture.
e.) It's legal and generally keeps you out of trouble.
f.) It's NOT like you said, "Hey, I'm leaving for 5 days!" I mean, you DID invite her. Including her is NOT being selfish.

I would never suggest divorce. Just sit down (calmly) and say, "Honey, I want you to know I could be doing worse things with my money. This is a healthy obsession. Deal with it. Support it. Embrace it."

My wife by no means loves the tiki-culture like I do. But then again, I don't love Betty Boop like she does. We support each other. It gives us something to buy for each other on special occasions.

Tell her that it's certainly not selfish to have an interest in something in which both of you can be included.

Good luck my friend.

My wife isn't a huge tiki fan either but she doesn't mind it. She's been very supportive of my desire to build a larger tiki bar and hasn't complained about it. You have to have trade-offs like we did with this latest project. She gets a new living room and I get a new tiki bar. Now if I could just get started on it I'd be happy...

Just tell her that if she doesn't behave she'll have to go back under the stairs...works with my wife.

How was that with my Sydney accent?

If I said that to my partner, I would get bitch slapped, then ignored for days!

All I'm saying is, "I'm on wife #2. She had better get the message!"

Honestly, though, she is quite supportive of the 'tiki thing.'
