I'll be in LA from about Aug 5 to Aug 13. I'll have many other obligations and have some tourist stuff set up already (LAX, Tut, Tar Pits, Disneyland, etc.) but I'd love to photograph a few of the googie wonders of the area. I've read of the unfortunate purge of Anaheim, and am studying roadside peek, lotta living and a few other websites. But, what I want to know is: What are your favorite LA area googie must-sees? |

Here is everything you need to know: Here are my favorites: LA Architect Paul Williams' jet set Encounter Norm's on La Cienega, off Santa Monica Simply Wholesome (near the airport - swing by enroute) Don't forget the Jet Strip Motel next door. Look for the 2 dramatic A-frames on LaCienega, directly east from Pann's StreamLine Moderne, but the Coca-Cola building: Located Downtown, Central and approx 11th Street. I'm wearing a Pann's t-shirt right now...loved the place. I'll have pics of all the googie places I saw (nothing new to LA people) when I finish the third leg of this trip (Mexico) in a couple weeks. I did become a Disneyland convert today...never liked the mouse before and sorta disliked the whole corporate Disneyfication of animals, history, etc...but now, for some reason, I like Disneyland...they must use subliminal tapes there...either that, or it was the influence of the Enchanted Tiki room and the cool retro-looking shuttles. |

The Starbucks on Crenshaw, about 1 mile south of the SaMo (10) Fwy has been lovingly restored and features a tiki-googie style exterior: http://www.lottaliving.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1806 Love the outrigger exterior! |
