New Member from "Down Under" signing in! Have been Collecting Tikis, etc from the late '60s, since My Older brother brought back a wooden NZ Tiki with the Stock standard Urban Legend "Curse":"If it has four fingers carved, then it's Bad Luck"
I've obtained a number of "Coco Joes" Collectables over the years from various OpShops located in Sydney which I intend to Attach Pix of...

Welcome BIGAussieJoe!

Glad you found us. Any Sydney tiki show up since the short-lived Samoan Room closed up?
You should get in contact with Hewey, another Sydney tiki guy.

Looking forward to your posting your collection; we all love seeing stuff we may not have but want to find :)

Hey mate! Welcome to TC :) :)

As you're no doubt finding - tiki central is a great place for a tiki fix :)

There's a few Sydney-based tiki people around, but they hide under rocks and stuff so finding them isn't easy. Looking forward to hearing more from ya

Hewey

Kia ora from across the ditch too A.J! Have you still got the 'cursed' NZ tiki..?

Tama :)

-My Older Brother..I tell yah! Not only did he tell Me the Bullsh*t story about the "Cursed" NZ Tiki, which incidently, in My dysfunctional family, would of had no impact upon all the existing Curses We lived under, but he brought back a "genuine piece of NZ Glasier Ice" that I kept in the 'Fridge for months & brought out briefly to show My school mates, only to discover that My Mother had defrosted the Freezer compartment of the 'Fridge, one day...& there was the chunk of white Quartz
sitting on the kitchen table! My family came to know several Sons of the "Long White Cloud" Island, both Maori & Pakeha & in 20Yrs of having been a Security guard/
Bouncer in various Pubs & Clubs, I've worked with & socialised with quite a few Islanders in My time. None were really the "Tiki" Collecting type, but they were fascinated to meet a Pakeha who had an interest in Polynesian Culture/History. I also Collect those Japanese Dolls made of plastic with articulated arms & heads wearing Hula skirts & Lais, Hibiscus flowers in their hair, behind an ear, along with old Polynesian LPs & EPs. I search the numerous OpShops & 2nd-Hand Markets of Sydney each week & have obtained quite a few Tikis,Island Carvings, "Coco Joes"
items these past 2-3 decades. Apart from having Irish/French/French-Canadian & German genetics, I also have a bit of Canadian Native blood which makes Life interesting in a Mystical sense...& Yes! I STILL have the original Wooden NZ Tiki that inspired My life-long interest in Pagan Idolatry!!

G'day BIGAussiejoe..
I'm from the central coast (near gosford) so not too far from you either..
Cheers..

Queensland's the Go! Was up along the Gold Coast for a Holiday(not long enough!)staying at "Miami"...
EVERY Suburb has several OpShops along the way. I run out of $$$ buying Collectable stuff!
It kinda reminded Me of Cronulla in the late '60s-early '70s & of course there's a real "LA" feel about it all(not that I've been there, but from the Movies)
But, if One had a beat up Valiant "Safari" Station Wagon & some Moolah...Your Bedroom would be full of '60s Kitsch very quickly.
& then there's the Carrarra Markets!! HUGE! Leaves "Paddys" in both Haymarket & Flemington for dead!
SunBurnt dudes STILL wearing the Hawaiin shirts that they 1st arrived in, up on the GC.
Only unpleasant comment...NO Bananas!! I go all the way up to the GC to have a Banana Split & there were NONE!(Hurricane)
Exotic fruit from around the world, in every GreenGrocers...
but Not a single Banana...
Unreal!

What I'd LYKE to Collect!!!
BAJ
