I'm in the works of trying to build myself a tiki bar out of bamboo. I would like to build something in this style (http://www.bambootropical.com/webfiles/webphoto/bars/barwithstoollg.jpg) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how they attach the smaller bamboo to the frame. I'm going to be using bamboo from my back yard that I'm cutting myself, and I'm using this website as a model for the bar http://blog.humuhumu.com/2006/09/05/how-to-build-a-tiki-bar, but I don't want to use what they call a bamboo mat to cover the sides, I'd prefer to use bamboo "rods" if you will. If somebody could give me ideas as to how I can attach the rods virtically I would appreciate it. The frame is going to be held together, I think, mostly with some type of rope or string. |

Aloha! If you have the main box of the bar made of plywood, you can attach the vertical bamboo pieces to the sides with simple finishing nails. You'll need to pre-drill for each nail through the bamboo so it doesn't split. I've done this before and it works just fine. You can always just hot glue them on, but the nails would be a lot stronger. A little wood glue on the back of each piece before you nail it would be good too. Good luck! Post some pictures when you get it finished. |
