Pages: 1 7 replies

From 8 to 9 pm tonight, hundreds of people will be making an effort to turn out, and keep off, any non-essential electrics.

TofuJoe and I will be participating and turning our electricity off at The Main! In accordance, I'm making sure my computer is completely shut down.

See y'all on the flip side! :)

Gee thanks! Our power was out for about an hour from 8 to 9. Wierd. We were watching Deadwood and POOF! Lights out, then I see a flash probably from a transformer. 15 minutes later (takes a while round these parts) I hear sirens just a few streets over. Funny I went to turn the light switch on to get a flashlight out of a cabinet.
I was counting the things you can do when the power goes out.
1.Drink
2.Read by flashlight or candlelight
3.
4.Drink more
5.smoke a pipe, cigar or ?

We played cribbage and...

..interestingly, drank. We lit all the hollowe'en luminarias. It was fun!

Come on you guys!!
Live it up a bit.

I wonder how many house fires there were in the US between 8-9 pm yesterday?

The World Wildlife Fund in Australia created an event in 2007 called Earth Hour. They encouraged people to turn the lights off for one hour.

Their calculation was that if everyone in Sydney turned off their lights for an hour, it would be the equivalent of taking 48,616 cars off the road for an hour.

That's just one city.

The movement has gone global and the organization is hoping that everyone around the world will sign up and turn out the lights. The event will take place tomorrow, Saturday the 29th at 8PM. Turn out the lights for one hour and let's see what it does for the world. I'm sure folks can think of things to do in the dark.

my house is participating in Earth Hour this Saturday night (tomorrow the 29th) from 8-9pm by switching the breakers off for a hour. Hubby and i have decided to sit on the back pool deck and stargaze or play cards by candlelight.
