win something cool from CheekyTiki, but better still, name Londons newest Tiki Bar

Pages: 1 2 79 replies

Everybody likes the naming game, so i thought it would be cool to throw out the chance to name Londons newest Tiki Bar to the experts.
The Winner will recieve some goodies from CheekyTiki, but, as the thread name suggests, better still they can brag about how they came up with the name for a London tiki bar.

Background on the place itself:

The Bar is part of a very famous pub in Archway North London (N19) called "The Archway Tavern", infact the Kinks were signed there and the cover of the "Muswell Hillbillies" album was shot at the bar.
The interior is a mix of Traditional and Modern Tiki lots of Bamboo and Stone.
An important aspect is the food, seafood and it will have an oyster bar (think pearls?)

Oh, and also the venue is on an Island! A Traffic Island, but it's still an Island.

The place is opening in about 4 weeks so we are in a hurry, once the name is decided the Logo etc has to be designed so I am giving you guys until tuesday to come up with the ideas.
Good Luck!

Fun....here goes:

Tiki Tavern
Bamboo Island
Isla de Nineteen
The Pearl of Archway
Nineteen Palms

I was saving this name for when i opened up my tiki themed strip club.....but since that won't happen any time soon, if ever, i'll throw it out here to you......"FISHNETS"..

okay, it would have made a great tiki strip club name, but since you are serving all this seafood i figured why not......now if you can host a burlesque revue or something similiar once in awhile, that would work too!!

Love the name games

Tiki Island Cavern
Torch Island

The Pearl Diver

Just curious... Isn't it unusual to be naming a place just 4 weeks before opening? Gives them little chance for advance publicity. But anyway.

Sunken Pearl (Kiliki's home bar too, but I doubt she'd mind)
Pearly Shells
Island Oasis
Forbidden Island would work great if it wasn't already taken! :)

Maybe the "Pearly Gates"?

Here's a couple of ideas, as I was working out the name of my Tiki Bar. I ended up calling my (soon to be home Tiki Bar) "The Lilo Lounge"....here's some of my sweat as I was working on a name:

Tiki or Hawaiian Type Ideas

Tiki Tavern
Tiki Terrace
Happy Tiki
Aloha Room
Polynesian Room
Pineapple Palace
Tropical Grotto
Kapu Point
Bamboo Room
Bamboo Hut
Lapu Lapu Lounge
Grog Grotto
Tahitian Temple
Tahiti Hut
Easter Isle
Easter Island
Kapu (Forbidden)
Okole Maluna Bar or Lounge
Rum Runner Retreat
Hula Hut
Moai Lounge
Mai Tiki Bar

Ocean/Beach Ideas

South Seas Shelter
The Outrigger
Mermaid Lounge
Mermaid Cove
The Green Mermaid

Tiki Gods

Pele’s Playground
Pele’s Paradise
Ku Ku Lounge
The Tongaroa
Lono Lounge
Kanaloa Cove
Roa Retreat
Maui Room

I almost called my bar The Green Mermaid, as I have a green drink I've concocted.

That's a very nice list there, cheeky girl! I would like to ad "Tangaroa's Tavern" to that, as he is the god of the fishes and reptiles. I fear though that the locals might be better served with a less lengthy name.

But then again, if Jamie is into reading up a bit about Polynesian mythology, there are quite a few legends about him, which could be woven into the menu text and used for design concepts.

:D Hawaiian to English translation:

  1. Anuenue = Rainbow; Arch

  2. Anuenue Moku = Rainbow + Island

  3. Lua Huna = Hidden or secret cave

  4. Halelo = Coral sea cavern; Jagged rocks

  5. Huna Kai = Sea spray, sea foam

CHEERS! :D

a classic: RumPelstiltskin
Or the original German: RumPelstilzchen

TK or Tikay

Big Kahuna

Kahuna Kai

The original Caribe name for Dominica is: waitikubuli
(Y-Tick-A-Booly)
it refers to the fact that the island has two tall mounds, like a beautiful girl
and literally means "tall is her body"

Nice to see you here Robert! i really look forward to see what the name of this new tiki bar will be, and to have a couple tikidrinks in there during the rumfest..

M

Ahoy hoy, Jamie!

I've thought long and hard on this one, trying to link a nautical or ocean vibe for the food side of the new place to something that would also evoke enough of the escapism of a good tiki bar. So, my goals were: make it easy to pronounce, connect it to seafood, don't get too "tiki", make it modern, and preferably short.

Tide

That's it, I got others but I'm letting it all ride on just this one. Oh, and if I don't have the winner, my vote goes to "The Watery Tart". Lots of other good ideas already submitted, too.

How about London The Beachcomber :D

Oh I love the name games, they are such fun!

Shells
The Port Light
The Breezeway
Sandy's....fill in the blank on that one
Brigands
Hooks
Reel-In Inn
Coconets
Starfish Grill
Riggers
Mabe's Pearl (with that little thingy over the e like in Renee that makes it say the a sound)
Akoya
Wishwater

Ok, so some are from local places, and my mermaid name, but I thought what the heck, it is a game!

And my personal favorite because it just sounds cool especially for London, and I love to kinda swear

The Bloody Wench

Happy Easter everyone!

Pearl Island

Pearl Cove

Pearl Paka ua

The Pearl Hau'oli

'Moku'

Like midnite, it's all riding on one word...

But 'at the Archway Tavern' might help in the first few months to promote the location...

The Bounty

Fletcher Christian's Lounge

Sandwich Islands inn

The Queen's Pearl

Captain Cook's Discovery

P

The Islington Islander
(The) Islander at/@ Islington
Ha'amonga (the name of the famous trilithon/stone archway in Tonga - full name is Ha'amonga 'a Maui - Maui's Burden)

P

All the Hawaiian dictionaries I checked used the word "Hoaka" for arch (literal translation crescent, and used for describing some of the forms on helmets & headdresses too).
so,
Hoaka
Hoaka Pohaku = stone arch = archway

and in the spirit of midnite's suggestion:
Adrift

Keeping with the Kinks/Tiki connection...

Shangri-La
20th Century Moai
Muswell Tiki
Have a Cuppa Tiki
Well Respected Moai

The Cargo Hold

Pearlessence

Quarter Deck

The Foremast

Infinite Voyage

The Voyager

Britiki Atoll

Paradise Lagoon

Castaway at the Archway

The Copra Trader
