I just listed something rather unique. Squid decided that he wanted to help out with the MS Society benefit mug "Queequeg" beyond just giving us a deal on the sculpt. He has also donated the ORIGINAL PROTOTYPE SCULPT of the mug for auction!!!

Yes indeedy. You may own rare mugs. But do you own the sculpt it was made from? This is an original piece of art that nobody else will ever own!!

As you can see from the photos, it is signed by Squid and also has marks that were used in the production.

Again, ALL the proceeds from this auction go to the MS Society!!

And if you haven't already bought your Queequeg mug, be sure to go to http://www.northeasttikitour.com/msmug/ and buy one or ten!! There are still some left of this run of 200 special benefit mugs.

Many Mahalos!!

Wow, if I won this I would place it in the back window of my car so everyone could see it. Share it with the world. It's not wax is it? :D

I'll let Squid describe what it's actually made of.

Sorry Teakey- It is wax! But it won't melt til about 180 degrees F. It's an industrial tooling wax that can withstand sanding, carving, routing, machining, whatever. I just wouldn't put it under the hood!

Here are some more pix:

WAX-TASTIC!

VERY COOL!

I have to say I am very impressed this has garnered as many "watchers" as it has!!
I bet there is going to be some serious sniping at the end.
But please do remember, this is for CHARITY!!
so please snipe with deep pockets.

Wow I've got my
on this. It's mine I tell you, mine all mine.. :D :D :D

Squid, you are the shiznite, man.

Thanks for helping us out with this whole endeavor. And putting up the original sculpt!?!?!? Too kind man, too kind.

I owe ya a drink at Hukilau.

Mahalo!

I do want to point out that the photos Squid posted were from BEFORE it was used in the creation of the mold by the Farm. If you look closer at the photos I posted, it shows a bit of abuse and it's not as "clean" as it once was.

But that gives it character!

the nose has a bit of a dent on it for example. But who of us doesn't have a few scars?

And Squid gets drinks from me too!

I just added a note to the auction that no rights are transferred or implied upon sale of this sculpt. The buyer does NOT have the right to reproduce mugs or other artwork based on the design of this sculpt. Those rights are retained by Squid and the Fraternal Order of Moai Queequeg Chapter.

thanks for all the bids! I am thrilled to see the response to this auction!!

I bet then it wasn't just me thinking it. Not that I would and certainly not that I have the money to buy it. But it will be out there somewhere a hundred years from now.

Auction ends tonight!!!
and today is my 40th birthday, so in honor of that, bid like crazy!!!

Let's give the MS Society a really big check!!!

Jonesy! You stole that bastard! (Not you, Jon. The sculpt.) The next one ain't gonna be that cheap...

T

That did go for cheap. That was all Squid man's handy work there. Congrats :D to the winner

This was really awesome. Jonesey donated extra too!
I will be transferring the $$ to the MS Society as soon as the funds transfer from paypal to my account.
in the meantime, if you bid on this but didn't win, but you still want to donate, you can either go to:

http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/jbartholomew for my page or

http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/queequeg2009 for the team page.

and a reminder, there still are a few mugs left to buy! Not many, but you should still be able to get one or two. http://www.northeasttikitour.com/msmug/
