The next art show at the Tonga Hut in either late March or early April will feature hand-built, one-of-a-kind art. So, all of you artists that have been slinging some mud at Babalu's, you have until late March or early April (no set date yet) to get stuff finished. And all of you Tiki art connoisseurs, have until that time to save your pennies for some nice one-of-a-kind art. No mold-poured mugs, and no prints. Only originals.

GROG, how many times do you need to post the same thing? Do I have to report you for abuse?
Abuse is considered: "Flooding" the window with nonsensical or repetitive text  Having a litle trouble with TC this afternoon?

I'm working on sketches and buying new glazes, hoping to come up with something worthy of the show :)

There are those few who learn from observation. The rest of us need to piss on the electric fence and find out for ourselves.

how can you have so many shows
of the same theme
and at the same time?

you ARE an EINSTEIN,ernie....
a ONE-OF-A-KIND
CERAMIC show
in a place that's
FILLED with DRUNKS?
DANGER!DANGER!

why don't we just schedule it
during the
running with the bulls?

What about textile arts?

Damned TC, wouldn't respond when GROG hit submit.

Textile arts works, too. (Unless you have a sweatshop of poor illegal aliens in back all sewing for you.)

Artists who want to participate have to be there to sell their art or have somebody do it for you (not GROG). It's only a one night art show, from 7 to midnight.

Thanks for the super advance notice GROG. I appreciate it.

This is going to be a blast! Yeah, thanks for the early call for work on this one GROG...

CLAY JAMS! let's go!

GROG GRAB STONE - MAKE NEW MUG!

GT

Cool, Slinging some clay, Free style art! With out having to keep in mind molding! Looking forward to it! Mahalo! Gogo

B

Glad to see your going to give it a go GoGo...there's a lot of mana in a ceramic work that has not been formed using any type of slip casting. Come on down with the rest of the crew if you get a chance! I would love to play in the studio with ya.

Thanks for the invite, Sounds fun, I'm all ready very busy in my studio! I know the Mana! My friend, I make a lot of single art pieces, All my art starts as sculpted pieces, Except for the re-pop items I make, Every item I make has to be sculpted first, Usually as a solid piece, As a master sculpt before it is made into a mold, For free style mugs sometimes, I'll wrap clay around a cylinder to start with too, Still it's kinda molded to start with in a since! I myself don't intended to carve a piece of clay hollow myself! I also made a way to make cylinders by extruding clay, My secret! I might spin some stuff on the wheel to start also! But yes I agree that there is nothing better than self expression than a single art piece, Mahalo! Gogo

That's cool Dani, I would love to see some of your "thrown" work sometime. I had plenty of oppurtunity to learn how to throw way back when, and passed up taking any real time learning the craft in favor focusing on other types of clay hand constuction methods. I could just never get into the whole Zen experience of throwing I guess..still, there's always time to go back and learn if I wish...

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by having an extruding secret?? There's a ka-zillion models of extruders on the market that allow one to extrude almost any type of clay cylinder they wish...hollow or solid, at almost any diameter one might need?? If I could afford one, I'd have one for sure. I think Henrik has one...lucky dog.

example: http://www.clayworld.com/extruders/

Do you mean you made a secret hand made extruder that does something these don't? I once made a big ass press using the weight of my car...now that was fun :-)

T

Sounds Cool. I'll be interested to see what new Hand Built pieces will be produced.

76...

Buzzy Out!

75...

Buzzy Out!

74?

Not yet.

Soon.
Buzzy Out!

B

If no. 74 is over 14 inches, it counts as 2

do lamps count?

They're stronger at Literature and Science, than Math, but they REALLY suck at Sports.

that was very clever grog.

very clever indeed.

Would a hand built lamp be considered for this "show". All of my lamps are hand built.

T

Hey MM, I bet you could even add a ceramic one-off chain pull.

I really dont have a way to get any ceramics fired... or glazed..

maybe next time.

C

"I really dont have a way to get any ceramics fired... or glazed.."

Hey Monko - I don't know if you realize this, but Babalu's been having Clay Mug Jams at his place for quite some time. You get instruction, clay, glaze, firing and sometimes hot dogs for free at his place (we've been leaving 10 clams per mug as a donation recently) so get in the loop, bro.

And don't give me this crap about taking too long to drive down, I've seen the way you drive.

I hear California calling me back again...

Can we Alter ( or bastardize) someone else's ceramic art to basically make a new one off?

54?

B

Hey Monkey Man,

Your lamps are the Best!

Cammo is a little mistaken...the only one I charge $10 to is him. Everyone else is free.

If you would ever like to come over and play, you are certainly more than welcome to. It don't cost nothin'. You can also pick up a little clay and play with it at any Chop and I will take it back a fire it for you. Glazing too. I have a big kiln and with all the folks I have had coming over to work, I have yet to fill it once. 4WD has also mentioned that he has a kiln in parts right now...we'll see if we can get his up and rolling too. Most don't know it, but Wheeler is quite talented in ceramics.

Lake Surfer - YES!! We has a show!

C'mon Derek!
you know you want to Play in da Clay!

Any scoop on this as yet?
Dates?
Locale?
submission guidelines?
Et Cetera!?

It'll probably be held late March or early April (more likely April) at the Tonga Hut in North Hollywood.

That's all the info so far.

I'm voting for April. In case we're counting votes. In case anyone is reading this. In case.

B

I votes for April too, if that counts for anything....

I have about 4 bigger pcs in the works for this already. Smaller ones coming down the pipeline.

GROG THE MAN!

April sound good to GROG.

GROG check with Tonga Hut, and see what their schedule is like.

GROG out-of-work at end of this week, so hopefully GROG can make some hand-built ceramics while GROG is unemployed.

GROG hope everybody is saving their money for some one-of-a-kind hand-built art in April. GROG was actually only out of work for 3 days before GROG got called back, but GROG did manage to get over to Squid's place and start some ceramic pieces for the show. Looks like this might actually be the FIRST Tonga Hut art show that GROG has some of GROG' own art to sell!! History in the making.

GROG did get to see some finished pieces that an unnamed artist did while he was visiting Bai in France, and they look AWESOME!!! ( I think this is supposed to be a secret, so GROG can't reveal who the sculptor/drummer is that did these great pieces, but you will be very impressed at the art show.)

P.S. Start saving your money for this art show now if you haven't started already.

Grog, do you have a date yet? (I'm talking about a calendar date for the Tonga Hut Show, not a rented female escort  )

GROG going to have to check with th event cooordinator, BigTikiDude to see if it can be on April 4th or 11th, to make sure it doesn't interfere with his schedule for going to surfbands. Who knows, we might even get the hippie to DJ event.

yawn....
wake us when you figger it all out....

With a little editing, this should probably be YOUR signature rather than MadDog's.

surrounded by intoxicants...
