Looking for Macadamia Liqueur

Where do you guys get your Macadamia Liqueur? Tiki Bun (who STILL hasn't posted yet!) can't find it anywhere. The manager at Beverages and More said he can't get it anymore and he thinks the supplier went out of business. Does anyone have a secret source!??!

Johnnie Velour graciously gifted me with a bottle over the weekend. It is soooo good but, WOW the flavor is STRONG! He may have a retail source - I'll ask him about it...

I use Trader Vic's brand which is available here in Vegas.Maybe if you come out to Mondo Tiki you can pick some up.

It's good suff, and a little goes a long way.

There is a liquor chain here in Chicagoland that sells the Trader Vic's Macadamia Liqueur called Binny's. I don't know if they are a nation wide chain but if they have it others must too!

I picked up a bottle of Trader Vic's Macadamia Nut Liqueur on Oahu at the NEX (Navy Exchange) it comes in a glass decanter suitable for re-use! Very cool. VERY tasty and strong!

I'm afraid here in Europe we won't be able to find Macadamian Nut Liqueur, but I have found this recipe. Anyone thinks this will work?

For the alcohol the best option should be vodka, doesn't it?

Any comment?

Macadamia Liqueur:
200 g roasted (160-180C for 6 minutes - light caramel color)
750 ml alcohol (40%bv)
1 cup honey (or more to taste)
Chop nuts to release flavor. Steep in alcohol for 1 month. Strain. Add honey.

Why not use a nice white rum? I think it would harmonize better with the cocktail applications we tend to favor, and at the same time not impose too much flavor. I'm thinking a nice Cruzan white or something like that.

Well, I was thinking about vodka because it will give even less flavor. But well, maybe a white rum will be OK as well.

Call TVs in Marbella. Maybe you can get it from them? Maybe they can tell you where if they do not have it.
I would think that they would try to use their name brand products. :roll:

Um, that's a good idea. I haven't been in the TV Marbella, but someone I know went some months ago and told me they don't use in the TV Mai Tai mix, they make their own concoction, because the delivery system doesn't work as it should. But I don't know about the macadamian nut liqueur. Thanks for your advice!

I think the booze is totally seperate from the restaurant biz. I do think the TVs should have the booze though. One advertizes for the other.

OK, now I have a small batch of one month macadamian nut infused rum. According to the recipe I found (link above), it's time to add the honey to give body and sweetness.

But, and here comes the question, I'm afraid honey flavour will go over the macadamian nut. Can anyone tell me if the real liqueur has this honey flavour? Maybe should I mix the rum with just a rock candy syrup?

If you're looking for Trader Vic's brand, I saw it at Surdyk's over the weekend. It's about $20 for a pretty large bottle. They also carry the TV brand of amaretto.
