Mahahloz Gang, I wanna go back! Chuck, I only shot video, but the cameras were definitely out there. I don't know where the east coast peeps are putting 'em?

GREAT video Chris! Love LOST IN PARADISE!

J

Chris, thank you again !! This was some top notch stuff. :)

Even though I was at Hukilau and Tiki Highway both, you artfully captured moments where I was either preoccupied elsewhere or too inebriated to remember.

I know you might not get a lot of replies to these updates but trust me, both your (and Tonga Tom's) content allow Tikiphiles' worldwide to enjoy the spirit of these great events. It is appreciated by hundreds and only strengthens our Tiki community.

And when are we going to see more of this stuff ??...

And I say all that despite the fact my Hukilau interview wound up on the cutting room floor.

Chris: this is exceedingly well done. Your stuff keeps getting better & better.

Even having been at the "Tiki Highway" show, this latest episode of 'Lost in Paradise,' gives a better view of the goings-on at the show than most of us were able to experience that day. Cheers, mate.

Mahaloz Guys! This last weekend was exactly the boost I needed to soldier on with the show.

Spike, you guys always put on a great show, and this one did not disapoint. Rock it out bro!

John-O, it wasn't me that cut your footage, it was my editor....wait...I'm the editor...drat. So sorry. I tend to overshoot at events, so a lot doesn't make it, but nevertheless, all still good stuff. In regards to something similar to "Forget the Ring, I Need A Mai Tai", I have a spark of an idea, but its a pretty big undertaking, it involves Sarahb, plus, I'm way out of shape (hint)

Captain R.H. Thank you for the compliment my friend, I keep hoping I'm learning from all of this and making a better show. Sometimes I look back on my older, poorly filmed, lower quality stuff and think, dang, thats not half bad and wonder if i'm getting worse. HA!

P.S. Speaking of tiki community: one of my favorite "moments/memories" at Tiki Highway was when Pineapple Princess bought/brought me a beer because she somehow knew I couldn't wait in the LONG line at the bar in fear I would miss a filming opportunity. I was floored. Best tasting beer ever!

Testing one of a couple new show concepts. Let me know what you think, yay or nay! Like or hate! lol

"that was pretty cool....A BUS passed by!"

Classic!

I am a major fan or Korean Food, working and living real close to Garden Grove Korea-town...the food is ALWAYS kick-ass, and the service is NOTHING like the Vietnamese places at all! I think by this point I have sampled pretty much every Korean dish, even the crazier ones. They are all good. I admit, I started out wanting to hate Kimchi, for philosophical reasons....but it is SO good that I eat it all the time now!

J

I'm just imagining sarab standing in the middle of 8th street, not trying to get hit by traffic while manning the camera. :D

And BTW... YAY !!, LIKE !!

"I got a thousand of these from making a pumpkin pie"

:)

Chris,

Thanks for the video, the lapel mic seemed to work great. Just got my 401 K statement, think it might be a be a double Painkiller night!

DC

Lol Lucas Vigor, I have now started a favorite Lost In Paradise ridiculous quote book on our Facebook page in the discussion section. Here's one of my faves from our Hukilau trip that didn't make the cut, but was hilarious nonetheless:

Host: "Whats in this punch?"

Kona Beer Girl: "Its got rum, longboard beer, and some kinda mix of a punch."

https://www.facebook.com/#!/topic.php?uid=190254427656607&topic=440

DC, oh man, I hear ya, double painkiller indeed. Hopefully the market won't react to the S&P credit rating downgrade and we'll get some sort of good news on Monday. If not, I might have to shoot a video and do "Dark & Stormy's"

Bringing a bar to Tiki Oasis? Have a special drink/cocktail/concoction that you have created for the event? Want to share your recipe on video? Lost In Paradise is seeking 3 bartenders/mixologists to feature in our upcoming Tiki Oasis episodes. Contact us if you're interested or leave a comment on our Facebook page.

This one might be stretchin' it a bit for the general tiki section. Probably more appropriate for the bilge. Thought I'd share my attempt at "Goin' Primitive"

Lost In Paradise: Bamboo Fire Saw

Funny Stuff Man !!!

Congrats Chris!!! It's not as easy as people would think. I tried once with palm wood and a fire drill - failed miserably!

Nice stroking. Sarah know you're doing this? Z

The quest for fire?....OVER!

All you need is a "Wilson" and your set.

After watching a "Survivor" episode several years ago I thought "Come on, it can't that hard - even a cave man can do it!" Well, it is that hard!

It definitely wasn't easy. I think I tried around 13 takes, went through a lot of bamboo. Got close once but the wind blew it out, and then finally had success on the last take. Something I learned is the knife edge on the bamboo piece that you stroke against (Z, don't tell Sarah, lol) has to be VERY sharp and very consistent. I had a friends "Wilson" lined up for the shoot (can you believe it, they sell them with the Wilson face on them at Big 5) but wasn't able to get it over here. Big Mahaloz to Lucas Vigor for letting me use his amazing music, "The Dark Continent - Bones of the Land". Absolutely stellar track!

My pleasure, Chris! It seems to go real well with the video!

That music makes it SO dramatic! Nice work, Chris.
Lucas, that music is just amazing. Right out of a Disney documentary from the '60s.

J

At first I wondered if that was some "lost" Les Baxter movie soundtrack (eventually I did recognize it). Fantastic piece Lucas !!

And fun stuff Chris. For your next "civilization" episodes I think you should invent the wheel, show us how rum is distilled, and then do a time-lapse carving of a Tiki using a pocket knife. :D

John-O, love the "civilization" classification, much better than the "primitive" concept I was aiming for. Don't know how I could invent the wheel (I ain't that smart, lol) but those other show ideas are great!!!

I like the home bar visits, hope you make it a regular thing Chris.

I'd like to see more home bars too. Would be a nice regular feature to rotate with the other stuff. Although I was a little disappointed we didn't see Chris sipping the special drink at the end.:)

Oh I definitely had one of those drinks, just not on camera, lol! Great to hear you enjoyed the home bar concept. Definitely hope to throw these in from time to time. Looking for the next home bar to profile now............

Poly Pop's Desert Oasis Room is amazing! You did a great job on documenting it! Looking forward to more.

I've got to say, that was very well done! Good interview segment up front followed by a very enjoyable cocktail presentation. I've seen so many of these and they can get dry easily, but you kept it lively. Big thumbs up for the host and the Desert Oasis room! And a terrific display of vintage mugs. Me and my 1920x1080 monitor very much appreciate the HD presentation.

If you're going to do more of these in this format, my only recommendation is that you show the complete recipe at the end so the viewer can pause to jot it down. Otherwise, well done! :)

Mahaloz GatorRob, excellent advice too post the complete recipe. Here's the next episode:

Great episode Chris! Makes me think Poly Pop should get his own spinoff "Poly Pop's Tiki Roadshow"...he could just cruise around the country telling people what their Tiki stuff is and what it's worth. I'd watch it! Also, nice interview with Jack "Mr. Bongo" Costanzo!

J

I miss "Lost in Paradise". :(

I agree. Z
