How to hollow out a palm log?

Hi,

I have no ambition to make tiki, but my next door neighbor chopped down some trees and I was thinking how much I would like to hollow them out and use 'em as containers for plants. Googling "hollow out a log" gave me some ideas about using a drill and chisel, but that was for regular woods, not palm trees. My uninformed brain is telling me that that approach might not work on palm logs, because aren't they more of a fibrous wood than a hard wood?

Anyway, I'd appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks!

RoRo, welcome to TC.

BayPark Buzzy has made several excellent drums out of hollowed palm logs but that doesn't mean it can be done by mere mortal like you and I :D Here's a link to his thread, you have to dig around in there but somewhere he shows a step-by-step on how he hollows them out with a chisel

(Sorry I don't have time to direct you to the exact page you need, but I'm at work and there are 193,937,592,664 pictures on that thread  )
