KAHUNA KEVIN Cocktail Books now availabe at KahunaKevin.com

Pages: 1 2 54 replies

UPDATE: March 7th, 2012
With summer just around the corner, be sure to pick up my cocktail books and add 90+ all original, brand new Tiki cocktails to your bar's arsenal. Both books are printed on thick glossy card stock, coil bound and coated with liquid resistant UV plastic for actual bar use. Quality over quantity in every way shape and form. I'm also tossing in a signed Kahuna Kevin drink coaster with every book sold (while supplies last).

Big mahalo to all for your continued support. Hope to see a few of you on the next South S.F. Bay Area Tiki Home Bar Crawl #3!

Kahuna Kevin's "Why Is The Rum Gone?" - Vol. 2 is the next awesome chapter in Tiki cocktail excellence. Written cover to back in just under 11 months, this hefty behemoth is literally packed to the gills with 52 ALL NEW easy to follow rum cocktail recipes. This time, a full Ingredient Index is included listing everything from rum, liquor/liqueur, juices, syrups, bitters and even individual spices by page numbers. If you favor a certain ingredient, flip to the Index and easily find ALL cocktails using that ingredient!

For my international readers (and all readers), I've listened to your pleas and made ingredient substitutions a bit easier by generalizing a majority of ingredients. I've also retained the original brand names of ingredients in (Parenthesis) for those retentively mad purists (like me) who demand 100% accurate cocktail re-animations. A substitution list will also be posted, and periodically updated, in the FAQ section of my website a bit after Jan. 1, 2012.

This masterpiece surpasses Vol. 1 in every way, shape & form, while Vol. 1 still continues to receive 5/5 star review after review. I'm as excited to release Vol. 2 as those who own Vol. 1 are to get their hands on it!

Vol. 2 comes hot off the press with all the updated features of Vol. 1: Printed on extra-thick 130lb. white card stock, machine cut rounded corners & all pages laminated with a high-gloss, liquid resistant UV coating.

Only $24.99 + S&H.

Mahalo!

(The boring stuff)

Aloha, I'm Kahuna Kevin!

I've been mixing cocktails for over 17 years for anyone willing to sit patiently and wait while I work my magic. A few years ago, a close friend and rum aficionado showed me the wonders of top shelf barrel aged rum. Since that day forward, I've been tinkering in my laboratory creating recipes and spilling many bottles of those same AAA quality aged rums so you don't have to. If you're a fan of exotic tropical cocktails and Tiki drinks that give a nod to legends Don the Beachcomber, Trader Vic and Beachbum Berry, then you're about to add another soon to be classic to your cocktail book collection.

Like the rum masters above, I insist on using fresh fruit juices, top shelf rum & liqueur and pure sugar cane based syrups, with the addition of some really new and unique ingredient twists to separate my cocktails from the rest of the pack.

Are the cocktails any good? Is the book really worth purchasing? Instead of taking my word for it, read the many reviews on Amazon.com, BilgeMunky.com, the public forums at Tiki Central, websites like Tiki Talk & Rum Connection, The Zen Tiki Lounge Podcasts #202, #203 and #218, or talk with one of the many Tikiphiles from Canada, USA, Europe to Australia who personally own and swear by my book. A full list of reviews is just a click away below.

Thanks for supporting an independent mixologist and author! Your emails, book reviews, chatter on various blogs and forums are the sole reason I decided to proceed with a second book. Please keep spreading the word and buying books, and who knows, maybe one day I'll have enough to open my own Tiki bar. Cheers to dreamin'.

Mahalo,
Kahuna Kevin

Kevin,

I need to post a review on your book, but I did want to say I really enjoy it. Some nice bold new tiki drink ideas within the pages. Bit I was curious as to how volume 2 was coming along.

Hi Raymond,

I appreciate the feedback. Please leave your review on Amazon.com's page if possible. The link is above. Volume 2 is progressing steadily and I currently have approximately 30 cocktails finalized, with another 10+ to go. My intended release date is Jan. 1, 2012. I'll also be including a substitutions list and full index of ingredients and pages containing each of those ingredients. The cocktails themselves are outstanding and this time even more exotic. A few of those more exotic ingredients are: Carlsbad Liqueur, Campari Liqueur, Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, Smoked Tabasco, Antica Sweet Vermouth, Rittenhouse Rye 100 Proof Whiskey, Fernet Branca bitters, Fee Bros. bitters, Grey Poupon Mustard, and there's even recipes using coconut milk and coconut water... and I'm one who absolutely hates anything with coconut in it, except these cocktails. Oh, and lots of Lemon Hart 151.

Please check out my Facebook page and 'Like' if you haven't already. I post each new Volume 2 cocktail picture as they're completed. Also, the work in progress substitution list is already posted in the Discussions tab on the left of the page. Some of the ingredients for Volume 2 overlap with Volume 1, so some of the information may be helpful if you can't locate specific ingredients. And thanks for your support!!! Every Volume 1 book I sell helps keep me going on Volume 2. Independent publishing sure ain't cheap... Mahalo! -Kahuna Kevin

BUMP And have some punch!

Due to popular demand on the Oct. 1st South SF Bay Area Home Tiki Bar Crawl, here's my recipe for the non-alcoholic (blasphemy!) punch I served as an alternate to my dangerously strong Grog Blossom rum punch.

Kahuna Kevin's (non-alcoholic) Blasphemer Punch
4 cups Lemon/Lime Citrus or Grapefruit Soda (Squirt)
4 cups Mango Nectar (Langers)
2 cups Pomegranate Soda (Safeway Organics)
1/2 cup Orgeat Syrup (Torani)
1 oz B.G. Reynolds' Don's Spices #2
2 dashes Fee Brothers Bitters

Stir with plenty of ice and serve.
Where to buy B.G. Reynolds': http://bgreynolds.com/the-syrups/

Cheers!

Umm... Squirt is GRAPEFRUIT soda. Did you mean SPRITE?
IF you MEANT Squirt, I believe there are SOME other brands
of grapefruit soda but some may be regional.

Well I don't even know if I consider Squirt "Grapefruit" soda any more. I feel like they tamed the flavor and now you get more of a generic "Citrus" flavor. But either way I agree and would not consider it a lemon/lime soda. But I suppose I need to try the drink and see how it tastes both ways.

Mybad, it's definitely Squirt. It's the pale yellow/green appearance that thew me off, although Sprite probably works well too. Anything bubbly and citrusy will substitute well.
