Tiki Central / General Tiki

Club Patches

Pages: 1 2 89 replies

Hey All,
I was thinking about how much our little club has grown from the Yahoo days and thought it would be really cool to do something that would kind of put us out in tiki scene.

Being that we already have our very own tiki mug designed by our very own Tikifish and made by our very own Stuckie, I thought it would be cool to kind of expand on that and maybe see if anyone would be interested on the following:

  1. Tiki Central custom license plate frames. Not the cheesy engraved plastic ones that you see at the swapmeet, but more like the custom screens ones that you get when you but a car at a dealership. The larger, bottom part of the frame would say "Tiki Central" and the smaller, top part of the frame would say "Open 24 Hours".
If we order them in a lot of 500, they come out to .87 cents each!

  2. Tiki Central t-shirts. Maybe we can do a club shirt that has the "Tiki Central, Open 24 Hours" logo on the back and the Shecky mug on the front pocket. This would be great at Club events such as Crawls, etc in helping to identify us TC'ers.

  3. Tiki Central embroidered jackets. I know, this one is a little more $$$. But hey, I would happily pay to have a cool jacket embroidered with the TC 24 Hrs logo in the back with Shecky on the front.

  4. Tiki Central stickers. Yeah, I know we did some Shecky stickers in the past - but it would be cool to hand these out at events, etc.

I'm sure some of us have contacts that can help us great some great deals on getting this stuff made. I personally, have some contacts that can set us up with embroidering. I don't have a contact for the custom license plate frames but here's a place I found online:

What do you all think?

Polynesianpop has a good idea. I think we should also include a fez.

How's about a secret handshake?

Tiki Central tattoos?

S

Yes, temporary tattoos! They are not expensive and can be gone by the time the hang over fades!

i'm into the idea of a commemorative fez, tshirt, & secret handshake!

whatever happened to the swizzle stick idea?

did the swizzle fizzle?

S

It would be nice to show up to an event in a unique club Fez. We'd be like Shriners at the bar, only we'd be at actual shrines like Trader Vic's. If we showed up in tiny cars, that would be perfect. Tiny cars pulling trailers with monkeys also wearing the club fez.

.....some of us chased by wives with knives, maybe??

One of the latest Shag shirts from Toes on the Nose has tikis all around the bottom. But yes -- TikiCentral fezes (fezzes? fezzi? dunno) and/or shirts -- top idea. Maybe postcards, rather than stickers, to hand out at events, would be cheaper. I guess the temporary tattoos would be cheap too? and heck, I'd wear 'em (perhaps not the best advert for the idea, but there you go).

This thread is going in two sections, so I'm re-posting here:

CafePress.com is a service that lets you upload logos to their site and they print on demand whatever you desire (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.). You set the profit point...as little as: $0.00 or as high as you want. Stuff is printed as it is ordered.

Could be a good setup for this group, and a cool way for Hanford to recoup some of the operational costs of this site.

--kingslod

Great idea!

Actually I've been planning this for quite some time, mostly to get the name out there and make this virtual club more real, but also to offset the cost of running the servers. I'm almost maxed out on HD space and I need to get more.

I've been looking into Cafe Press, and I may have a shirt on there soon. The cool thing is it's pretty easy to change if people don't like it.

I like the idea of patches, pins, and stuff.

One thing I'd like to do is get business cards printed up. Members can distribute them at Tiki Events (would have been great for the Oasis) and at cool bars, shows, etc.

Anyway, I do want to do this!

Here's yet another idea. Bowling shirts. I don't know about you guys (and gals) but I am not a big t-shirt wearer. And a fez is of limited use. But a cool bowling shirt would get into heavy rotation in my wardrobe. On bowlingshirt.com, they could fix us up a batch. I would shell out $40 for a good shirt like that faster than I would spend $15 on a t-shirt.

Bowling shirts are a great idea! Does anybody know where we can get them at a wholesale price? I have access to an embroidery shop so we can probably get a break on that. They do silk screening too so if we go with the standard logo with about 4 colors or less, we should be able to do them at a reasonable price (granted we find the bowling shirts at dirt).

Yeah, I'd go for a bowling shirt over a T.
The problem with those Cafe Press type companies is they always seem to print on white T-shirts, which end up going a shade of pink/grey as soon as you screw up the washing.

Keep the merch ideas coming!

midnite likes the bowling idea!

A nice Tiki, maybe just a headshot, for the front pocket with your name embroidered? The back should have a variation of the glowing "Tiki Central" logo.

Yep...it's a winner. Bowling shirt is so much more appropriate. Every other org or club has t-shirts. Bowling shirt!

I say make our own Hawiian shirts from our own custom printed fabric. The pattern could include the logo plus tikis and fezzes (or tikis wearing fezzes!)

An added plus is we can make them true to size. I don't know about ya'll but being over 6' my shirts end up looking look cropped-tops after a few washings.

There has to be enough talent in this group to make this project possible-speak up!

Well, fer what it's worth, I'm a professional graphic designer... I could help with anything printed. :)

I suggest T-shirt only becuase with Cafe Press it makes it very easy to put together the store, take orders, have them made, and shipped out.

Not saying we can't get the Hawaiian shirts or bowling shirts together, but it's more work...

I hope some of the t-shirts will be black. I

Hi,
I'm working hard on some crazy resin projects and I might be able to squeeze in some Tiki Central swizzle sticks and get them for dirt cheap in conjunction with some other projects if you all are still interested. I'd like to ask that if I do this that we have a tiki centralite provide me with the design and I will sculpt masters out of these and I'll produce around 5000 (minimum run) and figure out a way to divvy them up amongst the members for as close as "next to nothing" as possible... $.10 - $.25/ea?! It'd be my pleasure to help out if you all really want to make this happen! It'll take at least a few months from inception to delivery of da' goods!

Why don't you guys just wear polynesian / hawaiian shirts in order to show off tiki- culture affiliation. As for you wahines, you can just sport a beautiful tiki necklace or a black pearl. What's all this secretness about tiki culture. What? are we an underground mouvment like freemasonry or just plain paranoiacs? Why can't we just assume our passion.

Vay & LikiTiki

I think Freemasons are cool! Elks lodges are even better - secret handshakes, mysterious hats, passwords, bizarre art, closed-door rituals... Now imagine a TIKI version of that. I'm there. Just as long as no volcano-tossing is involved...

F

Or we could be like the girlscouts and form a badge system. We could earn badges once we accomplish different skills. The Mai-Tai badge, the Home tiki Bar badge, the drink master badge, the monkey husbandry badge, etc...

But I would DEFINITELY be all over any tiki Central products. Especially if the $$$ went to allay costs here. Kudo's to Hanford!

Fonduie's badge idea is brilliant! There'd be badges for mixology, historical knowledge, home Tiki bar completion, events, visits to sacred Tiki bars, and knot tying.

I like the bowling shirt idea a lot, I never wear T-shirts solo. As I posted in this same topic in the Hunting and Collecting forum I also like the idea of a patch of the super swell diamond backed Tiki Central logo (see top of page) which always makes me happy and thirsty. It's a vertical rectangle so it'd fit nicely on any pocket, jacket, sleeve, or tongue.

What is the quality of the Cafe Press t-shirt printing? Has anyone ordered anything from them?

I got one of those "Fighting Whities" shirts from them and the quality is nice.

I'm diggin' on the bowling shirt. Since I'm a big fat guy , thr roominess of a bowling shirt would be nice.

my vote is definitely for the bowling shirt over the tee, if it's possible. Thinking about it, I certainly wouldn't wear a T-shirt (unless a skinny one, I suppose) to anything more exciting than the supermarket. And I'm afraid no-one's going to care much about Tiki Central in the Thornton Heath Tesco.

Lol! Believe me, they will care even less at Didcot Somerfield!

If we're going for the bowling shirt idea, how about a design of a monkey wearing a fez, holding a Shecky mug, with a little loop above the mug so that a real swizzle stick can be 'inserted' into Shecky? Might be just a little too much work!

I am all for bowling shirts.
We have to pick a style and color.
http://www.bowlingshirt.com/index2.html
This site has a free catalog now.
Little difficult to sign up for.
I did shirts for Cub Scouts, 4 color, thick shirts, pocket logo, reflective ink. At my buddy Andy Wolfe's shop in Costa Mesa.
Team Color 949-646-6486 They came out about $8.87 each They just did my company shirts also and embroidered pocket logo only.
A vinyl window sticker for car or house would be cool, I would put it on my truck!
But as another fat guy said BOWLING SHIRTS are the best. I like temp. tattoos also

"They came out about $8.87 each They just did my company shirts also and embroidered pocket logo only."

Did that price include the shirt?

I too like the Shriners and Free Masons. The both have a charitable aspect to them. If we get shirts, fez's, secret handshakes, we too should find some charitable function to undertake.

Some suggestions:

  • Bring Mai Tais to the thirsty
  • Bring Pu Pu Platters to the hunger
  • Clothe (read Aloha Shirts) the neked
  • Bring comfort (read full-blown polynesian review) to the comfort-less/the uncomfortable (?)

Holy crap! 3 pages of replies; I guess everyone's interested in the idea.
Me, too. Bowling shirts, T-shirts, stickers, etc. would be great.
I love the Tiki Central logo. How about a pin that flashes like the logo graphic? (OK, probably too expensive to make, but it would be cool).

T

What, you mean you guys never earned these badges in Girl Scouts? I have all of them shown here, plus the harder to get ones, like 'Conquistador Chic Appreciation', 'Cocktail Umbrella Unfurling (Advanced)', 'Expert Gorilla Imitator', 'Ebay Mug Hunter', and 'First Aid for MSG Overdoses'.

Thanks Tikifish!

How about a Tiki Central limited edition serigraph/screen print? Anyone who is artistically inclined could submit original artwork for consideration by the other Tiki Central members who vote on their favorite and then we have 'em printed up. We could do a different print each year and they would make wonderful accoutrements to any Tiki Centralites home tiki bar. We could even request to have them posted at tiki bars outside of our homes - kinda like the AAA seal of approval - Tiki Central Approved. I don't know but I think we could get these done pretty cheap.

Just an idea...

Ok now it's just an idea but...
A limited edition TIKI CENTRAL FORD EXPLORER... this bad mother would feature a super swank rattan steering wheel, bamboo bumbers, lauhala paneling on the exterior sides, and a fold up portable tiki bar under the back seat... If every member of the club buys one I'm sure I can get Ford to do it!

:o

Lots of creative thoughts and ideas, what else to expect? Still, I like the bowling shirts!

I checked out that site posted by "Baxdog", looks good to me. I would gladly pay up for a Tiki Central bowling shirt. T-shirts would be a second choice...want bowling shirt.

Many may have seen the Tiki bowling shirt from that site sold on ebay.

Tikifish...The badges were brilliant! And then a double whammy with Kahukini's Ford Explorer Tiki Central Edition...Now I have a case of chuckle reverberation, y'know, when you start laughing again every time you think about what first started you laughing.

The badges had me rolling, that is the funniest f-----g thing I have seen yet.

I checked with my silk screen buddy today on bowling shirts and he gave me a catalog called KING LOUIE international 2002, some nice quality stuff. They have 2 choices, one royal blue/black and red/black. Just for the shirt it is about $20.75 each. He said we should silk screen the back then embroider the front, that would save a lot of money. Tommy Bahamas buys out of the same catalog. We have to be a dealer or reseller to buy I think. http://www.kinglouie.com/timeout/product.asp?cat=5&series=KL3000
These are some kickin threads
sign me up for thr explorer with the bamboo luggage rack

I really think the bowling shirt is the way. Think about having your TIki Central handle embriodered on the front breast pocket! ANd, as one fellow said, getting a cool shirt like that in the XXL sizes makes it nice for everyone. I also happen to think girls look awesome in them. We would all stand out at an event mixer. And who knows, there might even spring up a Tiki Central Bowling team or two!

We could package "TIKI COOKIES" and have our kids sell them!!! Donate the profits to Hanford. My son is nickmaned "Tiki Man Jack" 7 years old and has been drawing tiki's since he could hold a crayon. He's a good salesman too! He would do it!

Although I think the bowling shirts would be brilliant for the guys, I'm not so sure it looks too hot on the girls. Well, not on me anyway. Doesn't play up those all important curves! I wonder if there is some sort of chick-friendly clothing we can think of in addition to the bowling shirt?

P.S. I'll take requests for more scout badge themes... since they seem to be a hit, I'm gonna put some up on my website...

I have an embroidery machine, and I can turn "Shecky" or other art work into an embroidery format. I can Email this format to the bowling shirt supplier and a get a custom embroidery patch. Here's an example of a .PES file, I took the graphic from pg. 43 of B.O.T..

The only chick-friendly clothes I can think of would be something like this... we could call them "Bi-tiki-ni"

talk about important curves wwwooooo!!!!
