Very Nice! I would like to throw my castnet over that school of Fishiki's!! lol
Great Job CC!!!!

keep up the good work

P

I'd take those fish to some bait shops or places where fishing guys hang out...

you know that guy you see all the time, driving down the road with a truck, boat, and fishing gear that's worth more than my house? that guy is not broke...and he likes fish art. AND, if he's out for a day on the boat, chances are he's got a few hundred cash on him and he's probably had a few cold ones & is in a good mood, so he's s prime targets for the "impulse buy"...which is what tiki & art purchases are to many...spur of the moment. Put your fish in front of those dudes and I bet they'll be gone in no time.

Especially if you start puttin' trout, redfish & snook markings on 'em...

Im back! just got some chisels for christmas. i got the flexcut 4pc sculptors set. they seem kinda cheezy but at least i got some different kinds of chisels now. time to start carving again.

P

well, looking at them they don't have the same "beefy" appearance as the swiss pfeils, but I can tell you I've been beating the shit out of that same set for 2 years now & they work great...

one of the nice things about flexy's is the price. I have one Pfeil gouge that was more expensive than that whole set of flexys...

now you just have to keep 'em sharpened...

well thats good to know. they were a good price... $89 for the set

you're on to something with those fish...now, paint them up.

P

^ ditto...

yeah bro, your name came up when I was down in Ft Lauderdale hangin' out with Will & Tom...and we all agreed that these fish are brilliant...

get those in front of the fishing guys and they will sell. but given that it looks like you're suddenly serious about making a bunch of 'em, you've probably already got that figured out...lol...

I havnt been on here in a while but I just got an order for a root ball

WC

Nice job.
I like doin hair ball too.
Some one's gonna be happy with that.

Impressive. Well done.

P

that one is looking good bro...

I like it...

thanks, I got about 6 hours into the carve, now the guy wants me to paint it. I tried those flexcut gouges on the cheeks kinda like you jeff. I like how it looks.

I sealled it with stain blocker/primer so mold doesnt come through

then I lay down a black base coat

then i put some white base to make the colors pop better

then I start with some color and fill in the white for eyes and teeth

then comes the brown

add a little yellow, orange, green and white for shading and effect

set the signiture with some puffy paint

set in some tribal detail with some puffy paint and varnish

stand back and admire

P

very nice bro... well done...

I hardly every paint, but that came out really good...

and yeah, the gouged cheeks look pretty rad....

M

Whoa! I was diggin this one when it was all black!

The owner will be stoked fo sho!

And how much time from skinning to done?

Nicely done!

NICE !!!

Id say at least 10 hours. its all hand carved, no chaisaw or grinder. i did use the cheinsaw to skin it though.

M

Something of that size would take me months.

Stop, lol! got 2 days into it, one day for carving and a half day for paint. Actually, the guy i made it for said it looked a little on the smaller size. He wants me to make another bigger one too.

He paid me a big compliment and said he has 7 rootballs from mai tiki, and said mine is his best tiki.

new simple one for a buddies wedding present. just primed and ready for paint.

G

Nice work, I really love your use of paint/colour. It really makes your tikis pop and stand out from the rest.

Nice stuff , really dig there eyes !

I decided to cut the tiki in half and make it 2 wall hangings in stead.

Went to the Hukilau this Friday. met up with Jeff from surf soul tiki and even saw Crazy Al. There's a lot of talent in this pic!
Thanks again Jeff for sharing your booth with me.

Dude, Jeff whose the chick in the pic?

HT

That's Amma! She's great. She's one of the Aquicats. Also, I didn't realize you were a TC guy, man. I have GOT to spend more time under carving tiki.

P

some random chick who wanted to be a part of our deal...

anyhoo, glad you guys made it out. I had a great time this weekend.

last tiki I did. customer mounted him

D

That's awesome. Love how you can make even a pineapple look mean.

Too cool...

Not my style but I had to try something different. I could have put some more time into it but I wasn't really feeling it.

you're breakin' out brother... respect....
