The Adoration of The Colonel

Pages: 1 9 replies

Few can lay claim to have been a more influential Mid-Century icon than Colonel Harland Sanders. Can I get an "amen"?!

Today, the Japanese have a far greater recognition of this fact than Americans, apparently, which is why The Colonel's food is a central part of their Christmas holiday celebrations.

Fittingly, most KFC restaurants in Japan boast life-size statues of Him, which are frequently dressed up for particular events.

I, for one, would like to emulate the Japs in regards to this tradition, in lieu of festooning a predictable Xmas tree.

First, however, I must obtain one of these statues. Anyone living in, or going to, Japan like to send me one? I'll gladly pay for His airplane seat.

The Adoration of The Colonel is a holiday the whole family can sink their teeth into. Remember, it's not every holiday deity that also comes in extra crispy!

I'm not the only one who thinks He could easily fit in with tiki...

Have you accepted Col. Harland Sanders as your personal Lord and Savior?

He does rather look like Santa Claus, doesn't he? I have this in my record collection:

Tiger Lily & I were very fortunate recently to find all three of his Xmas albums in mp3 format (free!). They'll make for great gifts this season, I think.

Unlike more traditional, religious culture-bound saviors, no one in their right mind would even think of doing harm to Him, for heaven's sake.

He has his own mug. Even in the Tiki community, its a badge of honor to have your own mug!

I'm not sure what the appropriate cocktail would be? Pepsi cola? Mint julep? Maybe just a couple of ladles worth of chicken gravy?

Yes, the gravy for sure. For sure.

In fact, when you look at the way the hands are modeled on the life-size figures, He could easily be posed to hold a scorpion bowl of KFC gravy.

The Mystery Colonel!
