Tiki in Video Games

In the new Sam & Max game (from telltale games) there are a bunch of tikis in the tattoo shop. Plus the game is great if you like old school point & click adventures with twisted humor.

I think there may have been some in the original Sam & Max game by Lucas Arts, but I can't find my copy (doh!)

Here's a screen-shot were you can just barely see half of one...

For 9 bucks, its worth playing.

The game Tradewinds 2 has a superweapon called a "Tiki Bomb". It is supposed to inflict heavy damage on enemy ships. One wonders if it is a flaming drink from the Bahooka, which is strong enough to inflict major damage on the unsuspecting.

If you're on a Mac, Wacky Mini Golf has a tiki course and a volcano course with lots of tiki action.
Don't know if they have a PC version:
http://danlabgames.com/

Islands golf has some tropical slightly tiki stuff too, but Wacky Golf is a much better game.

I do see a mention to World of Warcraft. What is intersting is that the character posted is one of the horde Undead. If you want to look at a more tiki/island character, that would be the trolls and many of their villages. I will have to post screenshots later.

Anyone ever heard of The New Zealand Story (AKA Kiwi Kraze)?

wiki: The New Zealand Story

Game Play: The New Zealand Story

In this game you actually fight (what I assume to be) tiki-men with sunglasses on balloons. Hey the game was made for kids. There are also platform blocks in the game that look to be tiki sticking their tongues out (or could be Maori sticking their tongues out it is kinda hard to tell). The video link above shows the game and the blocks mentioned (round 2). Anyways you can find the game out for the PS2 called Taito Legends.

CJ

There's Boom Blocks on the WII which is a GREAT game

RR

A game called "No More Heroes" for the Wii had a grouping of moai in a park. I couldn't find any images of it.

UJ

Rob Roy, Try looking in youtube under "No More Heroes WII gameplay"

Hellgate: London- came out Oct '07, I picked it up in the bargain bin. There is a chapter where you have to travel to the British Museum, moai all over the place on pedestals.

Hidden Expedition - Everest

Yes, there's Tiki to be found on the Mount Everest!

Tetris Evolution has a tiki-themed skin and tropical background:

there is a Tiki Lounge featured in the latest installment of Guitar Hero-World Tour.

The entire set takes place inside this tiki themed bar venue.

Portable Island

A rare Japanese (game) for the PSP. Discontinued.

This is not really a game, it is a 2 week virtual vacation on your PSP. It is in Japanese but I figured out what to do. You arrive on the island by sea plain and stay in the beach hut. You have mail service and a personal cook but you are completely alone. There are tons of task to do so you can open up other parts of the island like the volcano. You get to build a hut after you get an ax in the mail. You can watch the sea plain leave and return every day. There are tons of animals and rocks and shells and artifacts to collect too. The wired thing about this game is you don't play, you just do stuff or not. Once you get the hammock you just toss it up in the palms and you PSP is a ambient sound and view device to just sit by the computer. It has a ukulele and drums to play around with and you can fish and cook what you fined. The game takes place at the same pace as your real life so the sun rises and sets in time with your real day. it has an alarm clock witch after much futzing I learned to use. The island has a radio station and you can play your mp3's on it. I got mine on Ebay but this is a rare game. Gosh I wish they would remake it.

I hear in the latest World of Warcraft expansion there is a quest to hunt down floating tiki heads.

Just bought Guitar Hero III this weekend. There is also a tiki guitar you can buy in the shop!

There appears to be a Maoi in this game...

Cheeky Half Jr. spends too much time playing 'World of Warcraft', or 'WoW' as the kids call it. Mr. Cheeky casually (and sarcastically) throws him the comment "I don't suppose there are any Tikis in that game of yours, Son?"

"Why certainly, Father" comes the polite reply. "Kindly allow me to demonstrate".

After watching his character hitch a ride on some flying beastie, battle innocent chickens and skin them, and then swim across an ocean to an island he proudly shows off "The Tikis of WoW".......

So there is indeed some educational value in these darn kids playing their stupid video games.

I play Wow quite a bit and the developers have added more Tiki stuff over time.

I play in a guild called Tiki Gods.

The trolls are the main race who make tiki statues and shields and are into tribal drumming and fetishes.

In the current expansion to the games (Wrath of the Lich King) there was also introduced a neutral race of Walrus people who build huge stone heads(moai) to hold the spirits of their ancestors. And being a fantasy world, this in fact happens and you can talk to some of these spirits.

There are also some bad trolls - and they are protected by enchanted Tiki's - 4 different variants of floating PNG styled shield and spears.

If you participate in some of the recurring quests in the game you can acquire a mini enchanted tiki shield as a pet that follows your character, and plays a different drumming music while activated.

Being a game aimed mostly at younger players it doesn't deal much with liquor, but there is a variety of alcoholic beverages to be found and also an annual beer festival in game - which if you complete a certain number of achievements gets you membership of a special beer club which send you a different, unique drink every month for 1 year. All the in game drinks have exotic names, but you can't make your own mixes or cocktails in general. However with cookery skill you can make some drinks by combining other ingredients.

Drinking an alcoholic drink in the game blurs your vision and makes you move randomly, the more you drink (and the stronger the drink) the more pronounced the effect. It decreases over time until back to normal.

you can learn to make one Rum drink which increases your skill while fishing.
There is also a fun quest/mini game where you have a still - and have to add bananas, pears and oranges to make a new tropical drink. however like most quests you only do it once.

that's probably about as far as it goes, although the next planned expansion will add some more tropical islands.

Super Mario Land

Moai with wings. In my humble opinion, that is a really cool image.

As mentioned in an earlier post, but here's a clearer screen shot (from GTA:SA):

I remember that game! It was black and white but definitely had Moai. Level 3!

I only recently started playing on Facebook. Soon was playing stupid farm game. Then a friend directed me to Tikifarm on Facebook. As the name suggests, it's farming on an island with tikis and ice chests of beer! It must have some input from TCer's! It's pretty cute. Check it out.

Hmmmmm...I like the stupid farm game, but a farm game with tikis would be even better!!! I've gotten a couple invites to it....sell it to me. Tell me what is fun and tiki about this game. Why should I play it? Do you search for hidden rum kegs or something? Or just farming but with a tropical twist (like Paradise Island...no tikis!)

:drink:
Tacky

T

Okay, I'll try to sell it to ya. I'm pretty hooked now. The game plays some nice generic uke music. You're on an island with a lava spuing volcano. You get to dress your little avatar in beach attire (including, but not limited to, coconut bras). You grow all tropical fruits, flowers and veggies, including taro. The garden gets fertilized with small, medium or large fertility tikis. You can decorate with assorted bamboo items including tiki torches. When you harvest so many plots, you "please the tiki gods" and they give you gifts. There's doesn't seem to be any rum on the island, but there are those ice chests of beer. It looks like beer to me anyway. The only thing that's a little off is they refer to the tikis you can "buy" as totems. Can't explain that, but otherwise it's pretty cute. At least check it out. Oh, and the first things you can grow are 'shrooms.

Not sure if this is either old hat or doesn't belong in this thread, but has anybody heard of a Facebook game called Nightclub City? Like Farmville, it is surprisingly addictive, and to my absolute delight, they offer lots of tiki decorations! Check out my bar:

(Don't mind those ugly orange tanks next to the bar. They obviously don't go with the decor, but they boost your alcohol!)

I hope to move it to Vegas next, as a tribute to Frankie's!

From GTA

Zeta,

Inspired not by the world famous Tiki Ti but by the actual Tiki Adult Theater in Los Angeles.... You haven't been yet?

DC

I have some pics to post on it later, but in Dead Rising 2 there is a tiki bar where you can mix up a painkiller for gaining health (unfortunatly the contents of said painkiller is one bottle of beer and a fifth of whisky, so I'm guessing the game programers are not big on drinking).

TM

I looked for screen shots, but could not find them....but on Hot wheels stunt track challenge there is an entire section called "tiki Island"!

T

In Sonic Colors for Wii some cool tiki action pops up inexplicably from time to time (or so it appears to me while I watch my kids play).

From L.A. Noire. The game is a crime thriller that takes place in 1947 Los Angeles.

This is durring a mision when I have to the Bamba Bar to go investigate where a victim was last seen

No Tikis here but a nice looking bar

later I was just cruising the city and came across Hawaii Mini Golf

There were no tikis, only hula girl statues

I didn't take this screenshot. I have the NES version of this game. It's called Life Force on the NES. I guess most of the Gradius series games have moai in them, but Life Force is the only game in the series I own.

i shot some photos from LA Noire as well..
shields that kind of remind me of Trader Vic's!

again..

shrunken head!

if you could look real close you'd see a Cuba Libre as well as other rum drinks on the drink menu

this guy kinda reminds me of sven.. haha

nice tikis on the wall

I remembered that Clifton's was around then so I went to where it would be located an it was there in all its beauty.

Close up of the doorway torches

This is from the Clifton's website, their after photo

Here is the same shot from LA Noire

WOW! I haven't tried looking for Clifton's! Now I gotta hop back on later and go looking for it! The map is pretty HUGE! Sadly I figured they would've put Don the Beachcombers in the Hollywood area but I searched and searched and it was not at the location I'd assume it'd be (Hollywood and McCadden), So that really bummed me out.

Facebooks latest game features plenty of Tikiness.
