Thank goodness Dan & Wendy do send some of their treasures my way (since my humble abode suffers from tiki minimalism at the time). At least they can visit their friends on a fairly regular basis at my place. One day Dan is probably going to go MIA in the Jungle Room...I do think he could survive in there for 14 days with water fountain and exotica activity though.

PTD...your house is looking way to cluttered...please load up those bots and mugs and drop them off at my place asap!!! :D

COLLECTOR'S HABITS LAND HIM IN THE POORHOUSE

By DR. JOYCE BROTHERS
SYNDICATED COLUMNIST

DEAR DR. BROTHERS: Please forgive my choice of stationery, but given my current circumstances, reusing the back of a credit-card statement is the best I can manage. If you flip over to the front, you can see just how much debt I am in. I wasn't always like this -- but ever since I got a computer, I do little else but bid on online auctions. I am obsessed with collecting every issue of a monthly comic book that has been published since the '40s, and trying to complete the entire run has landed me in big financial trouble. I know it's become way out of hand -- yet still I bid! What's wrong with me? -- C.S.

DEAR C.S.: You do have a problem, and you're not alone. According to Dr. Kimberly Young, director of the Center for Online Addiction, compulsive online bidding is not unlike the rush one feels when gambling. It's the feeling that you beat out a competitor and "won" an auction.

But obviously you don't feel too much like a winner when you wind up in bankruptcy court. Your comic-book collection suddenly seems less fun when the collection agencies start calling. Great advancements in technology have no doubt made all our lives a lot easier, but it's also a lot easier to get in trouble. We don't really feel the true repercussions of spending all that dough from the comfort of our own home. You might not even see the money you spent, as it's so easily transferred from your bank to the seller's account. It's way past time for you to "get real." Turn off your computer and spend more time in the "real world." You'll clear your head and might even find those comics for a cheaper price at a neighborhood tag sale.
