a little more work

S

Cool love it. Tiki mug for sure Its perfect.

B

thanks seeks
here it is with its 1st coat of stain

also sent away for a hook knife today more tools more tools

B

Hey Buzzard, was your daddy a Dentist, or are you?, Man those mugs have SOME Choppers. Nice and straight. you're getting Excellent detail on your stuff, A bit too nice and straight and white on the dentures. I prefer to have a bit of irregularity and off color since tikis don't usually get to go to the dentists. I find myself doming the same thing too, making the teeth too perfect. Don't let it stop you tho because you are really getting some Excellent looking carves, keep i t up!

B

WOW, I had not realized this mug was this BIG

COOL

BD

nah, the mug's not too big - it's almost the right size for one drink. looks great. keep up the great work.

Great expression on that mug, I bet I would be great friends with that guy after a few from the top of his head. You should definitely attend Oktoberfest with him.

That is most awesome! That's like, Scorpion Bowl Sized! Don't operate heavy machinery after one of those.
And, don't listen to Benzart! Tikis are everywhere these days, I think I saw one at my dentist last week.! :P

B

thanks guys
actually the mug is really small,im really 4 ft tall
and 95 lbs,you know how a photo adds weight

well if you believe that i have a tiki bar
down the street i"ll sell you

the choppers are really white,i was thinking of putting some coffee
on them to age them alittle

or if anyone knows any other tricks, let me know

S

Very Nice, you have a very cool Polynesian Stine
Love that handle and the size!

B

thanks seeks
im sure it will get some use

i painted the teeth with some coffee to dull them down
in person it really toned them down
not sure if you can see much difference in the pic

B

had to stack these guys so i could clean
the place, think they make a pretty good totem
i'll put it on the list to make a real one
one of these days

also got my hook knife today, you guys did't tell
me these things were so sharp!

hope i can carve lefty

B

i wanted this to be a lono when i started
now i'm not sure what it is

Hell ya that's a Lono! Nice, you put some time into it
and it shows.

Starting to get a collection aren't ya.

B

thanks seeks, always good to here from you

just got back from the walking buzzard ranch in az for the holidays and had a great
time and even made a couple things

1st new javalina babys at cals house

the walking buzzard ranch is coming along

tiki bar done

heres my 1st hook knife project, the knife will take some getting used to
i need to finish it around the edges, will probly burn it,from a piece of hardwood
hodad hank gave me thanks hh

and last is my 1st chainsaw tiki,my tucson buddy cal got a new electric
chainsaw and already had these palms for me,so what the heck?

not a bad place to carve either

thanks for looking and have a happy new year!

T

Nice stuff! I like the Lono hybrid. Has lots of character!

C

Your carvings are coming along nicely Buzzard, I like your Lono.
Also, the ranch looks like a cool spot, what's the story with that?
Looks like a great place to chill and carve.

B

thanks big t,i need to get back to work on the lono
he's starting to turn alittle green around the gills
any secrets for getting the green moss off?

congatiki the walking buzzard ranch is 4 acres i bought
4 yrs ago in sierra vista az,one more yr and its paid for!yeah!
me and cal have done all the work so far and it is starting to
turn into a pretty cool place to hang out,but it will probly be 2 yrs befor i
move there

would love to have you all come carv and party sometime

S

Right On Buzzard looks like you are staying busy.
Nice to see the Desert Ranch and what are
those cute little pig looking rodents.

The hook knife work of the killer whale? is off the hook nice work.

Gotta Love the chain saw makes for some fast chipping.

JT

Nice Bob-O.
I dig the little pigs.

B

thanks seeks and jab
the piggies are wild javalinas that get
real friendly real fast if you feed them
but they do have big teeth and look
alot cuter when they are small

i have been working on my knife skills

and i did this on a piece of sycamore i
brought back from az
i tried to make it look like one of my long
lost islander relatives

Dam! Nice job I think that hook knive and you jive nice.

B

Wild and Hairy looking guy! I agree that you and the Hook knife have a great thing going on!, Just watch where the blade is pointed.
:P :o :D

S

I have been thinking of getting one of those hooky thingies?

B

Seeks, those hookie pointie thingies are Great for fine detail and also for the deep red stain used so much by the Maori's. After awhile it will be the main tool you will always be reaching for but it will probably cost you
a few band-aids to get to that point, don't get That point, Get the point? :o :P :D .................................

B

seeks, thanks for stopping by,sorry to hear how the tape worked

benz,always a pleasure sir

the hookknife is coming along slowly,i have just been using a curved
blade so far and it has been really hard for me to get a straight
line going then cut on an angle to get a v,one side is always going deeper
meiko gave me a pac of mixed blades that have some straight blades in
it that i think will work better, thanks meiko!
i think i will also pick up a thumb guard cause i came close to spilling
some of that ink benz was talking about
i know its just a mater of practice,i just get antsy wanting to get better

B

well looks like winters gone, its only been about 68 for the last
month brrrrr! but it got above 70 today so it was time to work
on the big guy.he was starting to turn green,he's been outside
since thanksgiving.i have him about 90 percent done,so will
probly finish next weekend as long as the weather holds

S

Outstanding job on this full figured guy. You should be
proud of him.

Send that nice weather up north I getting fat and lazy inside all-day.

B

thanks seeks
hoping to finish sanding this weekend and get
him ready to stain

bought some big fans to blow this warm air up north
after alot of calculations and figuring weather patterns
and maps i figure this warm air will hit you in 2 months
so get ready!!!

wow, he looks wonderful. green, huh? might be an interesting choice of stain to look into. one of those sneaky greens that have him blending in to the background until the last moment before he jumps out at you. looking forward to seeing him finished.

bd

B

thanks bd
well desided to go with red mahogany, really wanted cherry
but the minwax cherry was way to light
the last cherry stain i got from home depot (i forget the make, white can)
but it was really darker
this stain is alittle darker then expected, but i think it
will look good, one thing i learned,is that tikis have a
mind of their own and come out the way they want

some ebony to highlight

1st coat rm

Awesome! Nice detail, and I think the stain came out great. He is a biggy aint he!

B

Yo Buzzard, Really NICE Choice on the stain color, maybe a bit of Red mahogany over that or not. He Looks Great As is.
Very nnice job and excellent updates. Have a Cold one on me!

JT

Looking Sweet, BoB-O.
Go ahead and have another cold one.

S

Nice looking stain job! anything going over the stain?

B

thanks surfs,benzart,jab,and seeks

i put a second coat of stain on,but it came out
way to dark,so i sanded some off to show the grain
then put on some teak oil, looks alot better now
one more coat of teak oil and i'll show some pics

Simply looking great.

B

thanks grapa-ruha

well i learned that you have to be careful what you
wish for on buzzys page,i wished i was out of work
so i could carve on wensdays and i got my wish!
my company laid me off after 23 yrs,but it was pretty
good timing,i have been building the walking buzzard ranch
(some pics on previous pages)
for the last 5 yrs and will move there by the end of the month
it will be a big change,i have been living across from the beach
in san diego for 22 yrs(wait i cant be that old)and will be moving
to high desert in az,

but it is allowing me to be my own boss and to carve all day!!!!!!!

keep an eye out for updates on the wbr ,i have 4 acers to
fill up with tiki stuff!!!!!
thanks to all the sd tcers that helped me learn to carve,
i learned alot, maybe we will do a roadtrip chop out there
,

S

Sounds like a forced retirement? Good luck with the move and
the adjustment of a high desert.

Thanks but no thanks on the first born :) I already
have a 1st born that's 18 and i cant get him to leave.

Buzzard!
That stain did the trick!
Awesome!
chunky and powerful!
i like it!

B

well hi boys and girls
well starting to get settled in the new place in az,trading the beach for
high desert, but things are comming along
the buzzards roost, my tiki bar is starting to come along, will have to finish the new shed befor any new tikis, but it should be soon

the buzzard ranch and allowed me to do alittle carving again.i have the 2nd shack done, solar shower in,and have been putting my tikis out around the place.still no electric, its been different being without it,i have a generator when i need it,friday night is movie night, and i can get ice 3 miles away for the beer,so all and all things are pretty good
