I'm all way's intrigued by the people I meet at art shows and just from going to Tiki events, By what people do for a living, Most of the time, Is Wow! I never would have guessed! There is a wide range of people from the well educated to the beach loving leasure life, That I have meet, But we are all " Ohana " And we all have the same passion which brings a very cool diverse group together. Post some pictures of what you do! For a living, And a brief description from start to what your doing today, So we all know what talent is here! I know we will all be Surprised, Don't be Shy! It's OK to boast here too!

I'll start first, Beside making home/hobbyist ceramic art, Out of high school I was a Union Plumber, Then Worked for Apple Computer on the Macintosh Development Team ( Engineering ) Then hated the inside job, Back to construction as a Union Master Sprinkler Fitter Local 669/709, I have a AA degree from Orange Coast Collage and a AA from Penn State in Fire technology, Today my job is to install fire pumps in all the new class "A" buildings built in So. Cal. All the BIG buildings, Pipe Art! Here is my latest masterpiece, Installed by me, The new Hollywood and Vine project:

Besides tiki, I'm a preofessional sleeper!

GoTiki, what you do is way cooler than what I do. I work in EXCEL all day. Spreadsheets. I move millions of dollars everyday but there is nothing to take a picture of. I find it very unsatisfying. You can point to something you built and that functions and that has purpose. That has got to be an incredible feeling. You should be proud.

I'm a stagehand. I do lighting, props, and pyro. The jobs vary, the only thing that stays the same is the all black wardrobe required.
Sometimes I live in a tour bus and travel around the world with shows like this

Sometimes I work closer to home with strange guys like this

And sometimes I just end up the butt of a prank backstage.

I sell paper. Yes really. Like these guys:

When I'm not working for the Department of Defense and CIA Counterintelligence, I work on my memoirs and tinker in the garage (Time Machine prototype). I also work 4 days a week as a Creative Director for a t-shirt company.... And i babysit BigToe there!

he got a "time-out" last week!

No pictures here either, but when I'm not inhaling bone dust or rubbing palm shavings out of my eyes, I do a good job of impersonating a mechanical designer. I've been an R&D/Product Development designer/manager for things like hydraulic wheelchair lifts in vans and trains, disposable insulin pumps, and solid propellant rocket thrusters for Future Combat Systems programs. Ken won't let me join the CIA.

THOSE solid propellant rocket thrusters for Future Combat Systems programs
MAY JUST BE THE TICKET for your CIA membership!

Edited because I don't want the mob after me.

and i thought lucas worked for the Tobacco industry....

I like this thread, you see all these people online and wonder what they do in their "off-tiki" hours.

For 28 years I've been a Respiratory Therapist or snot-sucker in a small rural hospital. We work with everyone from premature newborns thru old folks on life support. I used to think that I saved lives, now I'm thinking that I just prolong death :(

I do stuff with video cameras like this:

and this

and work on tv stuff for myself and friends production company in Brooklyn NY- IDOLMAKERFILMS

"...You see all these people online and wonder what they do in their "off-tiki" hours."

No, I don't.

I'd rather not think of any of you as living breathing beings occupying three dimensions. Just like I do not want to know the inner thoughts of all the strangers I walk past in the real world.
I find it disturbing and creepy.

It also gets in the way of what I have to do for for my job...Something I won't go into in except to say I have fairly good job security cuz the people in Liloti's branch are friggin morons.

My official job is, and always has been, on my profile. I am completely open when totally lying to your face.

Kinny, don't forget to work on Li'l Blue's shrink ray while you're at it. She asked me how it's coming along.
As for me - well, I put ink on that paper that Jason sells. Brochures, direct mail, literature, bilboards, advertisements, trade show crap. Need greeting cards made? Need prints of your artwork? I got connections, man. They call it Production Management in the graphics and advertising world. I call it "Producing Landfill Material". Then I go home and play with vintage patterns and draw cute purses and clothes and make new patterns and sew! Yay!

I used to be in the CIA, but I decided to retired early after a particularly exhausting mission this past weekend that took me into the depths of an Orange County dive bar where an Elvis impersonator sang for 5 hours straight. HOT DAMN!

SneakyJack, how do you make a living posting YouTube videos? I posted a vid and I never got a single check

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLR0kuTY4BE

Deep under cover with MI-5 as an S&M Specialist, I can monitor your room crawl activities and if you should you succumb to a bad case of syphilis with too many whip wounds, simply assume the position and I will shoot you up with some nice thick penicillin, give you a bed bath, and tie you up in leathers when you start howling at the moon...or if I find you hanging by your belt in the closet, I can throw ya on the floor...clear...zap your chest at 400 joules, inflate your lungs with the fireplace bellows and apply ointment to reduce the scars on your neck...yes I have a license to heel...and I do like my martinis shaken or stirred.

I mostly spend my days keeping the voices in my head company.

Then, when the tell me I'm boring and should leave them alone my liver and I go behind the bar and pretend to create drinks (they are usually ginger beer and rum). Then I get really creative with the garnish and see just how tall I can make them until they tip the glass over.

you do THAT for a Living!?!?!?

sign me up!
:)

I work for In Home Social Services as a caregiver. It is a job for the state so I never know if the ole pink slip is going to be in my mailbox these days. Minimum wage, part time, kinda sucky but I like the gal I take care of so I have stuck with it for over 3 years.

My husband is a engineer so we mainly live off of him :)

I worked for 10 years as a visual merchandiser for Sears and then went to school to be a Interior Designer. Then ended up taking care of a blind lady. Go figure :)

to mad dog mike -
I don't get paid thats what makes it interesting - even the "real" stuff I do I never seem to get paid...

That said want a video or some thing videotaped for no charge?

Working for tax dollars down in the Port of Los Angeles. I issue Coast Guard permits for any Movie or TV filming on the water, Sailboat Races or Fire Works from Morro Bay down to Dana Point. Not a bad gig at all.....Lots of cool lunch meetings.

TWO

I am one of the lucky ones. I was able to build an empire by combining two of my favorite things: Little girls and Lemonade.
Yep! That's right the largest chain of Lemonade stands in the Tri-State Area.
It's a tax free, low overhead, money juggernaut.

SneakyJack, what's that crazy audio track on the idolmakers website. Sounds like Taiko drummers meet native American chanters

Most of the time, I do what ever I want,

Some times,(some very special times),what ever I am told,

But always what ever it takes.

I'm a Lazy Pool guy.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

No Jeff,
like you said elsewhere
You are cleaning the pools for the owners, who are the lazy ones....

GT

Very Cool, All who posted, Very interesting! Please don't kill the thread! There are many people with lots of intresting work they do! Let's find out! Cheers! Gogo

"My job consists of basically masking my contempt for the assholes in charge, and, at least once a day, retiring to the men's room so I can jerk off while I fantasize about a life that doesn't so closely resemble Hell."

After twenty years in the Navy...became an RN for 8 years...then 5 years selling boat parts in retail ending up as the store manager at the North Myrtle Beach Store....now just got my real estate license start working for RealtyUSA in NY. I get bored easy I guess.

KK

I sometimes wish i had stayed in the navy, i could have retired last year! 6 years was enough for me though.

I'm a sales rep for The North Face, a company that produces tents, sleeping bags, footwear,
ski jackets etc. and the Denali Jacket. If you don't know what that is, visit your local high school
in a cool weather area, almost every kid owns one. All in all a good job, lots of nice perks like
eating in restaurants I could never afford.

G

I make maps.

I match tikis with their adoptive parents. It's kinda nice because tikis don't talk back. :)

My first career was twelve years in law enforcement, which came to a halt over personal & political differences with a former Sheriff. After an unfriendly visit in federal court, I walked away with satisfaction and a burning desire to do something altogether different. Since 1991, I've operated a used & rare bookshop and since marrying Tiger Lily four years ago, she & I operate it together. There's nothing like being your own boss, and I wouldn't give it up for anything higher-paying. Although sometimes it feels like trying to sell fine books to the general public is forcing knowledge and class on people who don't have enough of either to realize they need a lot more of both.

BK

Why is this guy posting under 2 names?

In all fairness, he hasn't posted as Pahoehoe Ule since he signed on as White Devil. Maybe he doesn't know that Hanford could change his user name.

TM

I had no idea he was married to Tigerlilly. My opinion of him just jumped up many notches. She is a very nice person.
