occasionally I go on the Mermenlist, yahoo group.
and for some reason they bring up bacon once in awhile.
I would think that most Nor. Cal. mermen fans to be vegetarian.
but I guess that's stereotyping isn't it?

anyways here are 2 links I saw tonight:

http://www.mariniscandies.com/product/BACON-01/ChocolateCoveredBacon.aspx

and this one actually scared me a little bit.

"What's a mermen?

Oh wait, that's Merman. I think this is a mermen:

Wait, I just found this "google" thing...OK...Now something call Wikipedia...Huh. Dang, I'm glad I got up today, look what I learned:

*The Mermen are an American rock band from San Francisco, California that formed in 1989. The group's sound is rooted in surf and psychedelic music of the 1960s, but delves into many genres and is influenced mainly by band songwriter & guitarist Jim Thomas' modern melodic visions.

The Mermen have a fervent and loyal following of fans from around the world and are widely acclaimed by music critics.*

So apparently the Mermen have nothing to do with Merman but are something like modern day Liberaces. But with guitars. And less furs and jewelry.

Also: Some fans of the Mermen like bacon and some Mermen fans are surprised by that fact.

Love bacon and all its goodness? Want to spice things up in the bedroom? Well, you’re sure to love this new product, baconlube™ . baconlube is a delicious personal lubricant designed to “keep it sizzlin’”. Now you can have your cake and eat it too.

Please note that the product is still undergoing FDA testing, although the makers feel confident that it will be fast-tracked given that pigs have been using something very similar to this as a breeding enhancer for years with no ill effects.**

on Memorial Day Monday, I had a BBQ and invited some "Friends" over.

I was making B&M baked beans, but we add some extra stuff to them.
couple table spoons of Spicey Mustard and Brown Sugar,
and to top if off, I cooked a whole pound of Bacon,
then I chopped it up and added it to the Beans.
oh soooo good.

but before I cut it up, I took the sizzling pan of bacon into the living room and ran it under Jon Paul and Ran's noses and they were in ecstasy
hahahaha.

My Registered Dietician daughter told me about CANDIED BACON ICE CREAM!!!!! Yes, you read that right. There is a recipe all over the internet but I decided to strike out on my own. I had some pre-cooked bacon and real maple syrup. I chopped up 3 slices of bacon and put it in a pan with about 1/4 cup of maple syrup. I brought it to a boil over medium heat, stirring continuously, until it reduced down to a goo (that's a technical candy making term). I spooned it out on a piece of foil and let it cool, then it broke up like peanut brittle (hmmmm, bacon brittle). Then I stirred it into a pint of softened Haagen Dazs Butter Pecan ice cream. It was really good, but the bacon flavor doesn't come through as well as I had hoped :D

For one of our Thanksgiving Desserts.
My sister made Chocolate chip cookies with Bacon.

first she put a cookie sheet lined with bacon, then covered with Brown sugar and Maple syrup in the oven, and candied the Bacon.

chopped the bacon in little pieces, and mixed some in with the cookie dough.
and saved some.
cooked the cookies,
made a frosting with Maple syrup, cinnamon, and brown sugar, etc.

put that on top of the finished cookies and before it hardened sprinkled that
with more chunks of the chopped up candied bacon.

Pure heaven.
