I like that Seattle mug you've got there...haven't seen it before. It's great to have a mug that maybe no one else has, huh. Would you do me the honor of adding it to the tiki gallery on my website sometime? |

Holy over spend, Batman!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2126451156 Bigbro should be getting a kickback from these sellers for labeling the glass the "Holy Grail" for Tiki collectors. It's nice and all, but come on...200 bones? Looks like a couple of folks have a severe case of "Igottahaveititis". That can be serious, practice safe Ebay! midnite |

The high bidder on the Trader Vic glass, Nitefr8r, is one of those new ebayers who has some money to blow, just like Danlovestikis and MCF7777...just look at the stuff he's bid on in the last month.... |

Attention everyone, anyone? Midnite Tiki Sale: August edition! Going to sell more of my dupes and extra Tiki mugs soon. Send me an email if you would like an early bird shot at the stuff. Tiki Centralites will have first crack at my things at their "buy now" and reserve prices BEFORE I list them on ebay. Have about a dozen mugs or so: Send me a note and let me know you'd like to peruse the goods. Will be sending out an email next week...if Hal 9000 does not act up! Michelle |

Hey TikiCentralites, Just ran across this on eBay. A VERY NICE shelf for the tiki mugs. Doesn't hold very many, but the craftsmanship on this one is just awesome, IMHO. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2131089639 |

Help. I got interested in tikiology from Sven's Book of Tiki, and have since bought new mugs from Tiki Farm, Munktiki, and Bosko, but now I want to learn more about tiki mug manufacturers of yore. Can anyone recommend a good book, website, or other resource? |

I bid up to 75.00 on the shelf so far and havent hit reserve. Kinda small to be worth that much and be new. I like it though. I may go to 100.00 |

Unless the seller told you that you that the reserve is more than $75, you won't know until another buyer bids enough to push the current price beyond $75. If you're eager to know sooner rather than later, I'd be willing to bid against you. [ Edited by: Suburban Hipster on 2002-08-14 15:20 ] |

Back from Vegas. Do NOT get me started on Taboo Cove. Ok, it sucks. There, I feel better. I did score a nice Tonga Room split coconut mug. Something I have been trying to get ever since I saw Tiki Hula's. A good price until one factors in the cab rides. There are some decent stores for Tiki stuff in Vegas. Of course, it is all stuff from bars NOT in Vegas. There is a wave of "Hawaiiana" taking over many of the stores in the reatrail malls attached to the bigger Strip resorts. I even found Trader Pang's Maoi mugs at a Hilo Hattie at the Aladdin. Vintage mugs going for $3.99 while they sell new low quality stuff for dolars more. midnite |

Pssssttt... I just scored a Mai Kai Rum Decanter. The little cannibal-ish beast shown on pg. 138 of BOT. It's not quite a Sufferin' Bastard decanter from TV's, but the next best "Mai Kai" thing. Have always wondered why they did not use that design for a "signature" mug. So many lesser Tiki palaces had their own mugs/logos. Ex-cellll-ennnnt! midnite |

On a sour note, sniped again: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2046866738&rd=1 Cpt. Midnite frowns upon those that find it necessary to use "artificial" bidding means, like Esnipe. Dirty pool I say, not very sporting. This was not the first, nor even the third, time from this particular "bidder". midnite |

Ok, if anyone is interested: Loads of Tiki mugs for the discriminating collector. Take advantage of those "Buy Now" options....don't get sniped like I always do! Some early Christmas shopping, perhaps a gift for a loved one's birthday...better yet, spoil yourself, you desrve it. midnite |

Same mug, a few more bidders, and BANG ZOOM!! Holy deep pockets, Batman!!! So what's market for this item? I lost a few weeks ago to a scurrilous esnipe pisher for $60...this one goes for $200+? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2050614532 Just when I was ready to say mugs are going for a bit less (like my auctions!) things like this happen. I have to find a litle old lady moving out of her home to a condo in Florida. She will be selling her late husband's collection of Polynesian Restaurant drinkng vessels, would $1 a piece be too much, dear? Cause these prices are way over my head! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2137374846&rd=1 Where were these people when I was seling my crap?!? midnite |

Midnite - Do I have it right that you think that sniping is "scurrilous" but it's appropriate to take advantage of a widow's ignorance about the value of her husband's tiki mugs and buy them for a small fraction of what they'd go for on ebay? |

I enjoy vicariously purchasing through certain bidders. I especially enjoy seeing auctions in which "big spenders" clash, as Danlovestikis and MCF777 did here, and here. |

These are a couple of great Fred Roberts Tiki mugs: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=714814727 I already have one, so I can share. :) Plus, they are listed as "tiki" so no way very many will miss the listing. They should attract some real action. midnite |

I know both Danlovestikis and mcf777 and they know each other as well. They are friends. Wendy and Dan would probably fight Mike and Suz to the Death on a Tiki mug. They are both excellent customers of mine. I hope they continue to kick our ass when we try to pick up a mug here and their. I see nothing wrong with paying a lot of cash for something you want. I would do it if I had a lot of cash. |

Well it took me about 5 minutes to find it and I shouldnt tell you how easy it was to find it, but it was the old....well I just cant spill the beans. I waited 5 days for the damn thing and some person bids on it in the last hours and I think "OH SHIT you cant have nothing, so I sniped it by placing a $30 snipe on it. I figured I was going to pay that much before and I also figure others had sniped it, guess not. Key word "Otagiri" |

An interesting provenance almagam for this Otagiri skull mug. It was made by Otagiri for Hawaii Kai, but eventually had a "Hawaiian Inn" label placed on it. Perhaps Hawaiian Inn bought up some deadstock from Hawaii Kai, or the purloined mugs are sometimes taken for use in other locales? Ha ha, just kidding. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=717854309 Nonetheless, I do have a skull mug very similar to this style. It is matte white, and has a shallow imprint "made for trader vic". The seller says he got the mug at Kelbo's way back in the 60's at a college fraternity event. I sorta believed him, now I have a bit more reason to. Them mugs gets around I guess. |

The Jekyll and Hyde club is a really cool restaurant in NYC. There are two of them, one of them is like around 57th st or so and the other is in the Village. They are spooky theme restaurants but I think they are the best ones! These actors walk around dressed up as monsters and make fun of people and they have these shows that go on every now and then. One of the best parts, you have to find the bathroom, it's hidden in a bookcase! |

I know Tiki Bob's. I live just a few blocks away from where Tiki Bob still sorta exists. Tiki Bob's is my favorite place. I am not going to get this Tiki Bob's mug on ebay, not unless I sell my kidney to that old dude in Visalia. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=722096886&rd=1 Where did I put his number? I'd still have one kidney, and maybe a few bucks left over for a Tiki Leilani mug! Midnite |
