I really like the Comic book idea and execution. I would put it into one of those comic book slip covers and place a stack of blank pages behind it to look like a full, complete comic.

Here's "Tales from the Tiki Lounge"
..."bagged and boarded" like any other vintage comic from any comic collection.
This print is actually in front if "Swamp Thing #1" (the Berni Wrightson masterpiece) that had a missing cover, so the old pages you see along the edge are old and yellowed. The Illusion works really well. I lay this on my work table, and friends come over, and so far it's fooled everyone, at first glance.

‘'Cooked' has clues to Big Isle quest

New book, filled with romance, revenge, recipes, offers readers a chance to win cash in isle treasure hunt

If you'd like to read a Hawaiian mystery filled with romance, revenge, recipes and clues that lead to a real live treasure, then "Captain Cooked" may be right up your alley.

Right now, a shark teeth club is hidden somewhere on the Big Island, and the clues to finding this "treasure" are hidden in the book and/or at. The hunt for the club will end about two years from now.

The book's main character is a woman named Madison Merlot Dayne, who arrives on the Big Island to shoot her father's popular television food show. Madison and her father find themselves trying to discover who has poisoned a revered Hawaiian musician. The main character, who was looking for an island romance, finds herself with three men in her life at the same time.

Big Island Weekly recently caught up with author S. P. Grogan, who gave us more insight into his newest quest adventure book.

"'Captain Cooked' breaks a few norms. When one thinks of culinary mystery (those with recipes) the common judgment is that these are cozies, fast reads, aimed at women mystery fans," Grogan said. "'Captain Cooked' brings in sub plots of monarchy restoration, legalizing casino gaming in Hawai'i, and the use of GPS involved in thefts. It reads also as a tourist guide where we hope readers: (a) follow the book around the island; and (b) try at home the recipes to make their own party. 'Captain Cooked' is not your normal mystery."

I found a slight imperfection in the first few print-outs of "Tales from the Tiki Lounge" #2.
So slight you could not see them, unless you were a neurotic-perfectionist-crazed artist like me,
But After close up looking and checking with my printer, I decided on a small change before I RE-start the run of
"Tales" #2.
SO... I have 6 giclee art prints of #2 right now. These I will mark as "artist proofs" as they will be slightly different then the true run.
I'm not charging extra for these, but they will be more rare than the regular run if you are into that sort of thang.

Whats new?
I now have an exclusive retail out let rep-ing me on the Big Island!
The most "tiki-est" place on the Big Island is the Royal Kona Resort - Don the Beachcomber restaurant and open air mai tai bar in the lobby, along with a bridge over a koi pond, a water fall, and on Sunday sunsets a vibraphonist plays in the bar. It's like stepping back in time about 50 years.
Well, the hotel finally took over the gift shop - and now the new management has up-ed the tiki vibe there. Exotica playing, Tiki mugs, SHAG shirts, and I'm happy to say... my art!

If you find your self on the active volcanic island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, stop into to the Royal Kona Resort!

The art prints they sell are, how shall I put it, more in the "Big Island" price range, than the art that I sell in the gallery in Lahina which is in the "Maui" price range.

Because of a manufacturing problem we had a short run on the Diga Diga Doo mugs, and an extreme shortage on the mini-mugs.

I'm recovering from the Mai Tai Contest at the Royal Kona Resort yesterday. What a great time! I painted live, and sold art prints in the vendors area. Ate lots of BBQ in the BBQ competition. ( I wasn't judging, just eating) Had a few Mai Tais (also I wasn't judging, just enjoying), (...and I don't think I've been asked if I'd like to have a few er.. "smokes"... that many times since I was at a KISS concert when I was in High School!) Later I was moved into the Lobby, where the Mai Tais flowed and the folks glowed - Talk about a crowd brimming with Aloha!

(there's the back of Beach bum Berry's ...er... hat, as he judged at the Mai Tai Contest.

While I was cleaning up the ol art studio for "At Home living in West Hawaii" Magazine to stop by today and have interview, I found some OLD sketches I did of tiki paintings I never had properly scanned in. I forgot I had them!

so... what to do with them? Let them sit in a forgotten sketch book? Naw, lets get 'em out in the Tiki World!

In stead of doing the old - here it is here's how much I Think I'll do something different this time.

Aloha, Brad! We were just in Lahaina and were lucky enough to purchase a giclee of your "Tiki of the Blue Pool" at Sargent's Fine Art. We're really excited to receive it. I've always liked it, and we're thrilled to own it now! Kim and Kelly said you might even be able to write a little something on the back for us.

We saw the Bela Lugosi one, too, and since it was Halloween the day we were at the gallery, I mentioned to Kelly that they should probably have that out front-and-center, and they did put it out where it could be seen from the entrance. Love that one, too!

Cannot WAIT to see the print hanging in our house! Mahalo!

Printer is back on island, he scanned away, and I saw first few giclees on paper and canvas - flawless! Beyond what I hoped for!

IT reminds me why I started painting. Because my inner child wants to walk out of the "Disney Pirates of the Caribbean Ride" and into the "Pirate Shop" and have something this full of sunken treasure and skeleton pirates for sale. Too many times I walked through that pirate shop and saw nothing new or special... now... THIS would have made me happy!
