Well it took a few years but I posted 1000 times. I'll start a new thread with a gallery of all my tiki-related images here. Will be adding much better pix than in the first thread, time permitting.

Aloha!

Congrats ST! Nice showcase of your work!

Thanks Suburbanpagan!
You're a great artist and a great artist supporter Sir Pagan.

I'll be adding more tiki art pictures to the first post and adding any new work to this thread. 18 pages is too much to sift through for most people.

Mahaloz,

Wow sneaky, I've been seeing your pictures over at your myspace but getting to scroll through them is really neat. The colors are so vibrant and the artistry is really unique! Great work!

That's a great mountain of art. I agree it's fun to scroll through all those finished pieces. The big door panels are my favourite. Fun stuff.

Sneakers!
Good Call throwin all the pieces together to compare and savor on one huge plate! The power and true love of the painterly act bubble to the surface! The mix of your hard-earned knowledge of the subject and your craft, mixed with the immediacy of a drip or the rawness of a brushstroke in an area creates fantastic results! You're not afraid to play and take chances with a piece...that's very admirable! and now look! look at all the paintings that have born! Here's to 1000 more! :D

Tabu and LLT,
Thanks bruddahs! You guys inspire me allz the time!
I'm so glad I have this forum to peep at.

Much love,

Thx Ravers! The self port. was my attempt at doing a verrrry tiny painting.
I added a couple more piccies to gallery at top.

Amazing stuff ST! But how about a little text for us artistically challenged folk. Like a title, maybe media or inspiration. It really helps me understand better :)

ST: I loved the work on your earlier thread, but all the experimentation here is making me dizzy. I'm impressed.

What a varied collection of work, great stuff!

Retro Tongan!
Very Swank and Retro
but a little bit of street influence popping in!
Rad to see a huge chunk of your work on one page!
Go Sneakers Go!

Tiki Mango,
Grazi! Florida is awaiting you and I am jealous as heck up here in the Rocky Mt. snow flurries... :)

Madawgmike,
I edited my post a bit and added some materials and titles for you, I'll work on it some more later. Thanks for the compliment!

wow thats neat. on alot of levels

"acrylic and oil on wood pallet" Now that's thinking outside the box (or in this case, under the box :) ) Very cool! The nails (?) at the top of the pallet, is that part of the art or some sort of guide during painting (or to keep the seagulls off)?

MDM,

Thanks!
The nails are part of the piece. I may replace them with bigger nails.
Ever seen an African fetish carving all bristling with nails?

Sophista,

Thank you. I hope I can finish it this week.

Very cool, and I like the little Suffering Bastard too.

Here is a progress shot of the Kanaloa Coco-Joe painting.

Here's a photo of a piece my wife and I collaborated on.

Acrylic and tempera on canvas, 2' by 2'.

PS

TikiMango,
Thanks! Glad you noticed the little guy.

Progress on Tiki Pallet...

Comments appreciated.
Thanks,
ST

I like your work way more than Basquiat's, which it faintly resembles. That palletish thing you put it on is wild.

WHA? You and yer wife modeled for dat?! I'm impressed.
Robb, I think he's a tad more Glen Barr, at least in some of the beautiful colors on the coco jo piece.

Great Stuff!

Robb, Tikishark,

Thank you!! Do you guys use cooliris? You should! I googled Glenn Barr via cooliris, outstanding!

Hopefully I will get this painting done someday soon!

Kanaloa's got some texture now
and is popping to life!

teeny Sufferin bastard in the corner...perfect

LLT,

Thank you!!!
Your illustration-ish style and "stained glass cubism" are really poppin my peepers!

Nearing the finish line?
I painted the nails black so they "pop" a bit more.

Thank you for looking!

Announcement:

I have a show at the Basement Gallery in Boise for the months of March/April.
The show opens March 5th (First Thursday).

I will also be hosting "The Vague" along with my coconspirator/collaborators.

The Vague is an art show, a house party, and a balls out freak fest.

The Vague will feature 5 visual artists to include painting, pottery, silkscreen, and multimedia, 3 bands, a jazz and triphop soundscape by DJ Sneakytiki, free Hawaiian food catered by Kanak Attack, wine, Polynesian fire dancers, raffles,
art for sale, T shirts, art making for guests on collaborative canvases and paper, and fun, FUN, fun.

The Vague will be held at the Old Fire House in Boise on Fri. March 6th 6pm -midnight-ish.

Lovin the "old Hawaiian shirt" colors and dreamy/fadey feel of this one....
the Polynesian Woman looks so serene and peaceful!
Stoked you're not afraid to take chances Sneaks!
What's the story of the box in the lower right?
Except for the "BAM"signature real small at the top
it's the only type in the piece...
I'll try to make it down for your show
putting on my hiking boots as we speak!
:)

if i get caught in a snowdrift
i wish you a GRAND and MARVELOUS event!

LLT thank you, we'll be expecting you

Yes he is really done!
Punched up the highlights to add depth, added some orange bursts.

Yes she is really done!

Worked on some uniform randomness throughout the piece. Varnished too.
Acrylic on masonite.

PS
LLT,
the box in the hula piece is the box with the Schirman or CocoJoe or HIP hula girl bust shipping to you direct from Hawaii, or the ceramic bust from Ohio, or the Candle maiden from Mississippi.
Dig?

ST

[ Edited by: Sneakytiki 2009-01-31 22:27 ]

Wow, your art is amazing, your work is very inspiring, I love the colours in the hula girl piece, very hot indeed...8)

I can see that there is only a subtle difference between the finished tiki guy piece and the unfinished but it really does make it pop out at ya...much respect given to you my friend...:D

Now where did I put my paint brushes...

Thank you so much for the kind comments Gooberfreak.

Please visit http://www.vaguecollab.com/. The full version of the site will be up by the 14th.

The VAGUE will now feature 4 belly dancers in addition to the aforementioned
activities.

Oh Man! The Kanaloa on the reclaimed pallet. . . . . Genius!

Did you gesso or otherwise treat it? or just paint directly on the raw wood? really dig using scavenged or salvaged materials. Man the whole concept of that piece is spot on.

I gessoed the hell out of it, filled most of the cracks betwixt boards with my gesso slathering.

Thanks!

Welcome back Sneaks!
Glad to see you're back in the easel again!

Thx LLT!
