Ok so after hearing kids in this small town that there is really nothing to do here , I came up with an idea. Many of them rent the pool for their birth-days, but the pool isn't open year round, so not everyone gets to have it there. And instead of going into Lubbock, why not something here in town. I asked them how would they like a place where can get a party room and play mini golf (and other stuff if we can expand). All of them said "YES!". I have thought about it and I want to to it do it Polynesian. I'm not sure on a name or anything. But I wanted to ask you all, does anyone have a way to start planning one of these, who builds it (or can I learn), pictures of other Polynesian themed mini-golf and such? I really think this would work. |

Josh Collins, co-organizer of Wild Weekend and Tiki carver of South London Pacific was planning to do that in his new hometown of Perth, Australia. Last I heard he was getting stonewalled by the conservative residents in the area. Has anybody had any news from Josh lately? Aaah, now I remember: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=19702&forum=2&4 That's what happened, they nixed the Mini Golf and went full Tiki Bar! How could I forget. Thanks Hewey, was that just synchronicity? Still would like to know how he's doing, not much news reaches our shores from Perth. [ Edited by: bigbrotiki 2007-10-26 19:27 ] |

Besides, I think it is a grand idea. American miniature golf courses are among the last free form, non-corporate havens of escapist design concepts, where one create after ones own whim. That would be such a great idea: Pagan South Sea gods in Texas! |

A new mini golf place has opened up near me, haven't got there yet. They have a different theme for each hole. The pics look nice. |

When researching for the one in my yard I came across this website: It claims to have an "info pack" on how to build a mini golf course. It's $99, or instant download $49. I didn't order it so I don't know if it's any good. Since I'm doing it for my yard, I'm not too concerned with it being perfect like a business. I'll just level it as much as I can, lay weed barrier under astroturf, and line the greens with stones, planning for drainage. I'm not adding any water hazards, but plenty of "make it through the mouth of the tiki"- type obstacles. |

I love the idea...it would be fun if you have the money to do it. Make a little Easter Island...a Maori Village...maybe an International Trader Vics. Not only day to day golfing, but you can offer party rentals. :) This link might help... |

"Glow Putt Mini Golf" in Windward Mall, Kaneohe Hawaii. It's inside the mall & the place is decorated with Glow-in-the dark Tikis. I'll try to get pics soon. |

funny you should mention this...for awhile i have been in discussion with the folks at cosmodog that make arcade games and we have been planning on making a mini golf course that is portable and combines the thrill of putt putt golf with bumper pool....the holes are scaled down to about 4 foot by 8 ft tables with wheels for each hole and instead of using a golf club you use a pool stick and shoot a cue ball through the various mazes and holes.....the ball is scaled down too of course and there will be at least nine holes to shoot through. not all the holes will be tiki though at least one will...we're thinkin of rube goldberg meets putt-putt with this...the holes can be more elaborate and challenging with all sorts of movable elevators, conveyor belts and what not....we decided to make it portable so we can create a traveling art piece that can be set up in a gallery or store front space, plus we can really get detailed and creative with the design...we have some real cool ideas for some of the holes already....and we found a space we can rent to set it up and allow folks to come out and play it....stay tuned!! There is a mini golf on St. Pete Beach that's been around for a LONG time that has a huge moai on the course. It was built in the late 1960's. Sorry but I don't have pics. I'll try to find some. Tiki Bill. |

Unkle John, There is a watered down version of what you're talking about here on the southwest side of Houston called Fun Tiki. Judging by the pictures, though, it's not what I'd call authentic: |

Thanks Mate! I see a lot of fun... but no Tiki. But it has given me some inspiration. |
