Who's up for choppin'? Just a good ol casual chop, no dancing bears, no fireworks! Just some carvin', some chatting, some eating and drinking in the backyard. I missed the chop at Mieko's this month, so I want to try and squeeze in another. Weather permitting, it'll be at my house in Oceanside, Saturday the 26th, starting at 9AM, but come whenever you can. Please PM me if you want to come and have not been here before. |

I'll leave Bill's, Sam's, and Pop's mugs with someone coming up from SD to pass out....I'm afraid if I can't bring my dancing bear, I won't be able to make this one. So, is this Chop number 13? PS: Birdman's mug too. [ Edited by: Babalu 2008-01-14 17:59 ] |

OK, so Buzzy wants to tell me how bad my Raiders sucked this year, that's nice. Lightning bolts are the theme of this next chop eh, that's nice. Clysdale wants to gloat when his Cheating team the Patriots take the Chargers apart, that's nice....................sorry, I'm back, had to puke, but I'm ok now. Well, yes, I am a Raiders fan, been one for years, not like the faded fans of the Chargers that only come to the Stadium when they're winning, and stink the whole place up like someone/all of them are wearing Jerseys that have been protected safely in their clothes drawers by mothballs (That's because they stunk for sooo long!)! The Patriots, well, what can you say about a team with all that ego (That still has to bend/break all the rules to win.) that no one wants to win! The whole season is tainted for the Pats, but I will say this, as much as I dislike the 1 sided game of the Chargers, I'll be cheering them on to knock the Pats out of the playoffs! (then I'll be cheering for The Green Bay Packers!) As for the chop, well I'll still be there (with a few select pieces of body armor, but what self respecting Raider fan leaves home without, huh?) thank goodness there are no games that day too! Whew! I don't drink, but I'm thinking about something with Rum in it right now, lol! If I offended anyone, well too fking bad! It's Football season and we all have our teams, mine will be back before too long, LT wont survive much longer and Norv Turner still dosen't know how the game is played, Moss will be going to jail soon enough, Brady will make more money doing acne and Levitra commercials than playing in the NFL, and still the Raiders will have to deal with Al Davis! So we all have our problems, it is what it is! See you folks on the 26th!! Love ya! |

That's a superb shot of His Highness Sir Kirk O' de Heather. Hey, here's what I think of Star Trek. They've never done a sequel to the original Star Trek. The "sequels' they've made are NOT Star Trek. They don't have Vulcans, communicators, neato futuristic sounds, cool looking boots and the Klingons are FRIENDLY! What the *&^&#???? And the aliens are all humanoid, I mean they just are crappy people in costumes. It's like they got some retard (sorry if you are a retard) to write a Star Trek script, then they put it in a blender, hit PUREE and tried to tape together the results. It isn't even close to Star Trek. Neither are the movies; even with the original cast they're like they are in a different world, wondering where Star Trek went. That's what I think of Star Trek. |

On the Star Trek note, everyone has their favorites, the die-hard old school trekkies, the TNG trekkers, and never the two shall meet! I was very fortunate to meet Gene Roddenberry at Paramount many years ago, and we had a short but memorable discussion on just that subject because he was producing TNG at the time. His main thought was that Star Trek was an aspiration for what might be and what folks want to see the future to be. He knew already some folks would have a problem with TNG, but hoped they would see the natural proggression of the whole concept, afterall it's just a TV series. He gave me a pile of scripts that they had lying in his office (Which I have locked away, bagged and boarded!!) and thanked me for being a fan! Very, very nice man! He also had the origional Enterprise encased in glass on a big pedestal in his office that I couldn't take my eyes off (Now in the Smithsonian)! But when you look at the progression of just the ships of Star Trek, how can you not be impressed! Lots to like about it all, Live long and prosper! |

Kate, Kate, Kate. TBird, TBird, TBird. It constantly amazes. Despite TC being a forum whose sole purpose is to promote retro entertainment, people keep posting that they in fact do not like retro stuff! And seem to be proud of it! Get it straight – the reason why retro anything is important is because it was the original creative idea. Everything that followed these original concepts in clothing, movies, engineering & products are neither original nor creative; they are by definition pale copies. The originals in any field took brilliant vision, luck, and a lot of work. They were usually the result of many years of experience, boiled down to some simple ideas that were way ahead of their time. Trader Vic, Roddenberry, Edison, the inventors in any field were all the same; they were driven by great ideas that they knew had to get done. The later versions of Star Trek were made because the original was good, not bad. Obviously. And here’s how good the original FX for Star Trek were; they invented the idea of using stationary models bluescreened for drop-out mattes with motion controlled moving cameras. They invented the modern era of rotoscoped FX, in fact almost every type of shot used by ILM in the pre-digital era. It was the same guys who worked on the original Star Trek who formed the core of the FX department for the original Star Wars movie. One shot in "The Cage", Star Trek's pilot episode, has two people stepping on to a transporter, but only one being beamed up. The remaining person looks over and goes, "Huh?" This shot literally took weeks in an optical printer, and involved burned-in FX, matching a split screen, freeze-frames exposed at the same rate as running footage, holy cripes! The final shot is seamless. At 35mm. film resolution it is still 4 times higher quality than current high-def digital video. The cheesy effects for Next Generation were done in video editing. They simply don’t compare. And if you want to know who was responsible for Star Trek’s original look and camera effects, there were two guys. Bob Justman and Byron Haskin. Byron was a certified genius, whose career went back to the silent days. He directed “War of the Worlds” among other things.... |

One last point - The babe-alicious-est gal to ever grace the Star Trek sets was Angelique Pettyjohn, as Shahna in "The Gamesters of Triskelion", second season, original series. Counsellor What's Her Name ain't in it. Here she is in a then-current photo. No surgery, just one healthy girl! See what I mean? No contest. Now go back to your football, kids. |

But as for leaps and bounds in tech, Digital is still a relative infant to what it will be in years to come. But again, in a relative question often put to the test here at TC, if the Ancients had power tools when they were creating their art, would they have used them, HELL YES! |

Hey, all jokes aside, what is the WORST NFL team? Like, what's the one team a bunch of blind grannies could destroy without even getting out of their wheelchairs? Like - the Tennesee Titans or the Baltimore Ravens? Or is there a team way down at the bottom??? Just wondering. |
