Thanks Bigtikidude and Tikishaker, I appreciate it!
I'm sorry Jeff the velvet was sold that night and all
the pendants were sold and given away.
I hope to start a new tiki velvet soon.

Mikel,
ok thanks for the reply.
I don't know how I missed your painting that night.
I guess it was just too dark, or I had my head in my ass.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Welcome! Saw your art at the Tonga Hut.
Awesome work! Really like the abstract quality
in a lot of the pieces. keep it up!

B

Hey Mike,

It was real nice meeting you and your wife at the Tonga. Welcome to the "Other Crafts" area...there is always room for another mud slinger around here. Thanks again for the pendant, and I very much enjoy the Secret Society Mug I brought from you. :) Is the main body on this mug of mine an extruded piece?

Thanks a lot 4WDtiki, Iokona Ki'i and Babalu. I am getting
more and more inspired everyday.
Iokona I looked through your Velvet Betty thread and your
work is great, I think your newest one (Betty 2) is going
to be the best.
Babalu, thanks for all your support. So great to meet you too.
That mug was a class assignment creating a triangle shape object, and it
was built from slabs. I am in and out of class at the college of Marin and
they do have a kick ass extruder, I should try it out more.

I love these mugs. Really clean and graphical but organic too. Very very nice.

And how could I not totally dig that exquisite black velvet!

Kudos!

Wow! Heather, thanks for the nice compliments. I am a huge fan of your work.
Your tiki paintings and Velvets are beautiful and unique. I drool over your velvets
on your website all the time, I would love to own one. All of the velvet threads on TC
have inspired me to work on velvet. I cant wait to see your art in person.
Thanks again, MP

I really get what you're doing and like how the quality fundemental design comes through in such a minimal way rather than the usual baroque-level detail that's such a part of lowbrow art.

If I had to put a term to it I'd describe your work as "Romulan-polynesian"!

Also known as "Romulesian".

Cool style! congrats!

Romulesian, Thats beautiful. I always wondered if I was from Romulesia. That explains
my taste for weird clothes.

Thanks Robb, Grog and Clarita.

Robb, I was trying to get to your velvet thread and comment. Your work is
unbelievable. I am trying my hand at velvets. You, Heather watts, Thor and
others here on TC are truly inspirational. I cant wait to see more!

I am starting all kinds of new things right now with a
new energy. Here are some pics of some past work.

The tiki in the middle was near death. I glued all his bark
back, painted him up and sealed him for my friend chuck. The tikis in the back
are foam carvings for my wedding in 2004.

This is chop, this is a little study for a mug I want to make.

This is Jumbo, he is Romulesian.

Hi Mikel- I love the unique architectural quality to your tikis! Very cool stuff! Thanks for posting....

M

Thanks so much Sam, that means a lot. Your art and
tiki mugs are awesome. Ive checked out your work for
a long while now, I am a vintage freak too. Ive been through your
website but is there a thread here on TC with your work on it.

Jumbo is very cool - is he metal? We need more metal around here to fill in the thin spots. The velvet is very nice too. Your stuff is inspirational in both quality and ambition.

I'm glad you knew how to take the Romulan comment, Star Trek had some excellent conceptual designers that tried to express a raw, primitive look for some of the alien species and I wouldn't be surprised if some of their reference was Polynesian art!

Thanks fellas.

Robb, Jumbo is clay. The glaze is antique pewter which
is really cool, but not food safe. Thanks for your comments.

Dave, Ive got your little mug on my bookshelf. I love it.
My mug collection is packed away right now, I cant wait to put
him in there. I'll see you at Tiki Oasis.

WOOOOOOOh!!! your work is just... great! I really like the way you cut right on the simple way to see the tiki style.. (Actually... I don't know if it makes any sense in english)... but Bravo!!!:)

Bai, Thank for the nice words, that means a lot.
You are an artistic genius.

I just wanted to get my new velveteen painting in here and
share a few older things with all of you.

The Tonga Hut Hand Built show has got me fired up and doing
new things. I will be in the artist alley at Tiki Oasis this year
and want to hold off posting new stuff until its over. I will
have ceramics and new and old paintings as well. I cant wait!

This is Frank the mug on velveteen.

The Raku gods smiled on this familiar fellow.
His glaze is copper.

Skull Idol

Maritime Skull

Lil' Headless

This is Herman. Hes a TikiCandyVolcano. He's a candy
shelf for Heebe Jeebe novelty store in Petaluma , CA.

Thanks for looking, MP

L

Diggin the candy shelf , the velvet and the glaze on that sufferin bastard MP.

Your skulls always remind me of Aliens...but in a good way!

P

So much good stuff I don't know where to start! I don"t see anything in this thread I wouldn't covet. You've got a great tiki aesthetic going on but my favourite of all is the Secret Society mug - you certainly have a great eye when it comes to design. Keep em rolling!

H

MP I got your lime tiki, and I like your work. You have a great sence for tiki oriented design.

Velvets! Shelves! Nautical skulls! Headless Idols!
Deng!
Guess we'll get to meet over in the Artist's Alley this year!
Squids and i and Sophistatiki and kiki and Bowana and Babalu
Deng is gonna be fun!

Keep up the awesome elegant work!

B

Good choice Paipo...that ones in Babalu's collection now :-). One of my favorites.

Thanks everyone for the support! It feels great to get some
positive feedback. Besides the love I get from my family and a few friends, it gets a little skull/tiki lonely out here on Penngrove Island. Looking foward to TO9. MP

Z

Tremendous work. Absolutely tremendous.
(edit) I am so glad to share a chunk of NorCal with such talent! I work down the street from Heebe Jeebie's, and have admired that particular piece for awhile now. On behalf of us petalumans, Mahalo for adding to our daily Tiki goodness!

energy is keeping me focused on my new work.

Zerotiki, Thanks man! I saw Herman when I was down for the car show.
He looks a little beat up. better get in there and spruce him up.

Notch, What can I say but thanks! Your art is killer. I cant wait for T09.

VanTiki, thanks a lot, Your mugs are the bomb. Ive been watching the VanTiki
revolution happen. You are a true craftsman.

C

Freakin' exciting work, big guy. Love the "Chop" squarehead, you have to mold a lot and knock out a series for Oasis! Keep it up or we're gonna come and GET YOU!

Yer glazin' is amazin'!

For anybody who hasn't met him, MP looks like the King Of Coconut Island.

I so dig that velvet painting, mp! Colors are cool too...

wow, MP! amazing collection of works, here! like so many have already said, your eye for design is impeccable. 'Maritime Skull' and the sb velvet are my favorites. can't wait to see more!

Great unique work mp! Hard to say what my favorite is as
they all have great style. Really diggin the velvet sb too.
Keep it up!!!

Definitely tremendous work. The copper glaze on the Raku guy is unbelievable.

that pinstripe moai mug is one of the best mug designs i have seen in a long time here on t.c.....now where can i get one or are you going to force me to make my own?

Cammo, Sam, Greentiki, Iokona, Robb and Tipsy, Thanks a lot!
I appreciate all the comments. I'm working hard on my stuff
for Tiki Oasis. Hope all of you will be there.

Tipsy, I can build you one or you can make your own,
either way is cool. Thanks for the props.

Here are a few pics of past work I dug up.

This is my tribute to Leroy from his picture in
the book of Tiki.

Here is my 10 footer my sister hijacked from me.

This raku piece was inspired by the removal of my wisdom teeth.

The Ole Man O' the Sea.

This painting is called "Mikel & Korey", Its about my cousin and
and I fighting over cars when we were kids.

This skull is called the "Bulk".

Wow, I'm luvin' me some "Mikel & Korey", the pallet, the Moai-octopi, everything!

i'd rather you build me one of those pinstripe tikis.....how much do you charge and how tall is it??....what sizes and materials can you build it out of....i think it would be cool as a stand alone carving of wood , or foam....

and i won't be at hukilau so i'm gonna miss out on a chance to get something of yours....

Thanks Tiki Mango & Tipsy, that means a lot coming from two
hip artist's as yourselves.
Tipsy thanks for the interest, I'll pm you with some options.
Ill try to keep it cheap. MP

"This raku piece was inspired by the removal of my wisdom teeth"

That's sick and twisted (in a really cool way!) Great work MP

I agree with Mike on the wisdom teeth piece.
Very creepy cool. Looks like something out of a Tim Burton
movie like "beetlejuice". Killer work!
