Hey mp, I like that Leroy tiki! That wisdom tooth piece is hilarious when you look at it in terms of a wisdom tooth. It looks a lot like one of the four I had pulled way back!

Z

I heard you have a show coming up in Petaluma...Can't wait to be there!

Hey everyone, MP here wanting to let you know what Ive been up to lately. I havent
been commenting much lately but have been peeking into other crafts at least
once a day. Everybody has been going off lately and its really keeping me
inspired and busy! Thank you.

Heres a few pics of my PNG mug for the tc swap

An outdoor pic with MP's studio in the background.

Here it is with a friend.

Here are the six faces of the mug. I was lucky enough to swap with
Artosaurus. His painting is hanging in my art studio. I love it!
Thanks Artosaurus. Im ready for the next one. I hope its BOB.

On Saturday, July 25th I had a solo art show at Boomerang gallery in Petaluma, CA.
It was sopposed to be a group show, but the idea kind of fell apart at the last moment
and I volunteered to handle it myself. Getting it done almost killed me. I had a lot
of paintings laying around mostly finished, so I roped'em up and finished'em off. Not the
brightest idea for someone about to show at the artist alley. I'm already back to the
grindstone.

Here are a few pics from the Petaluma show more on the tiki side.

This is Therm tower, I will have some of these in two glazes at
the Artist Alley (Pappys).

Therm Tower with the glaze carmel steam.

Heres frank the mug with charcoal matte. He will also be at
Pappy Hagglers with two glazes.

Here is the ceramic lineup. Some new tiki stuff and some old raku
pieces from around 1990.

This ones called "First man, first visitors"
I never finished the bowl or the planned glow to come from it,
but I hung it anyway.

Heres a little "Chop the mug" print.

We had a good time and I actually sold some stuff.
I'm feeling quite grateful lately!! Well, back to work. I will be bringing my
best to T09! Thanks for looking. MP

Sorry forgot these two.

A print called "Birt"

More glaze options for Therm Tower.

Can someone tell me how to edit my topic title?
Cheers, MP

This stuff is GREAT. The paintings are great! MP is, as usual, the King of Cannibal Island!

"First man, first visitors" ...Classic!
and what a cooll studio out in the middle of the boonies!

Thanks Cammo and Kenny I appreciate it. Cammo, the Coconut King
hair is gone buddy, I was looking to much like a snowbeast! T09!

Mikel, congrats on the successful show, good luck at TC09!

First man, first visitor is bitchin!
Great, great art mp!

Wonderful work Mike...I can't wait...two weeks and we get to play together :)

RH

Awesome lineup for the show.

I hate to sound ignorant, but what does "Therm Tower" refer to?

M
mp posted on Fri, Aug 7, 2009 11:24 AM

Thanks a lot everyone. Kind words from great artists!

Thank you Mike, I hope you can make it up to Oasis. I would love to chat
about art and what not with you.

Jason thanks a bunch, I cant wait to see your velvets and hopefully make
to your party. Its gonna rock, I can already here it from here!

Rick, Its always a pleasure to here from you here. We are gonna have a good time
down there. Cant wait to show you my mugs.

Robb, Thank you. "Therm Tower" is just named after that previous mug "Therm". I
wanted Therm to have a decanter just like the suffering bastard. He originally had
a pour stem at the top but it being my first tiki mold, it didnt work out so well.
Someday I want to try a Therm decanter again. Therm just sounded like one of those
old names from the 1940s.

Cheers

Vey cool stuff, mp. I really like your unique style!

A bar stool for my drunken enemies.....

love it

Hello Thor, Thanks for checking my thread. I really dig your work and I enjoyed the
article on you about your time at Disney. Really awesome stuff. See ya at Oasis!

T

Holy Cannoli! Like a few here, this is the first time I've seen your work & it is incredible. How does an unfortunate TC'er who can't make it to the Oasis this year get his mitts on some of your artwork?

Hey MP,

Deanna Rose here - the proud new owner of your velvet painting "First Man, First Visitors". It was great to meet you and see your work at Oasis last weekend. Our new painting will have a place of honor in the bar, and we're lookin' forward to owning more of your pieces in the future. You had mentioned that all the frames were vintage thrift store finds as well, and it was just the icing on the cake to find the original thrift store tags and 1969 date stamp on the back of the frame when I unwrapped the painting. So cool!

Hope the drive home with the wife and family went well. Take care!

mp
the only man to bring a whole quiver of moustaches to Oasis!
Your work and family

Holy Cow! what a ton of fun. Thank you Otto and Baby Doe for a killer party.
My wife, friends and I had a blast. My son calvin cant stop talking about the blue
smoke coming out of Kubars eyes (Notch it was great seeing you down there!)

I want to thank everyone who came by my booth with greetings, compliments and those who picked up
a piece or two. It was beautiful hanging with sophistatiki, Tikijoespop and Gotiki both days.
I also had a little time to go peek at everyones stuff. What an awesome collection of art all in one place.

So, after taking a leisure drive home with family stops in Burbank and Santa Cruz we are home and I am staring
at this big mess I left here a week ago. Time to clean up and get back to work.

Tobor64 - Thanks a lot for the nice words. I will try to get some of the remaining art into the marketplace real soon.

Tiki Kitty - Im so glad to have met you and Im happy you enjoy that little piece. I try to grab up as many of those
little frames as I can. Theres not much else left in the thrift stores anymore except those darn Herb Alpert albums.
I would be super excited about outfittin yer place with another piece. Thank you again.

Kinny - Can I call you kinny now? One of the highlights of the trip was meetn one of the greatest artists in the world!
One of goals down there was to aquire a ruzic original and I brought home two. I am stoked my friend! Keep rockin.

Lorilei - Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it very much. I really dig your work, especially the mug that looks like gun
metal. Great job. I hope you get good sales on your listings.

Well off to bed. Couldnt sleep without making this post. Cheers Everyone

has mp woken up yet?

would someone go check on him please?

S

MP! Thank you for my awesome plaque!!!!! Please PM so we can coordinate our project.

I loved that big painting - don't see it posted here on this thread. And all your signage for TO was really great, too! You should post those pics here, too. Don't you just hate not having all the cash to buy whatever you like? LOL! You definitely have a unique point of view and your work is sharp! Hope you and the fam had a wonderful vacation. Hey Everyone, I want to show you some of my work for Tiki Oasis. Ive been in a funk
lately and trying to get family stuff done and what not has kinda delayed this post.
As some of you know I had a table in the artist alley this year. My family and I had
a blast and also my first time in San Diego. Really cool city, I love the vibe down there.
You may have seen some of these pieces in the artist alley thread but I
wanted to get them posted here. Some of these photos arent that great but
I was kinda rushed for time before oasis :(

Charcoal Chop

Hang,n

Chop the mug. This guy is hanging in the Freaky Boutiki
gallery right now. Thanks Hank! Its an honor to be included
in with all those great artists.

My first bowl

Two face

Pink skull mug

Retro Moai

Ole Buggy

Frank the mug. I am working on some more of these.

Original frank carving. This is the original clay face
of the frank the mug model. At the Tonga hut show I gave away
all my remaining pendants to the artists that night. Somehow
squid missed out. I pm'd him later and told him I would
get him something sooner or later. Finally, I got it to him
at Oasis. If any of you have had brothers or sisters you know
damn well everything has to be fair!

Crazy mojo stick thing. I gave this little carving to
Crazy Al at Oasis. I never knew what to do with this
little guy. I thought Al could use it. Letting Al know
he has been an inspiration was huge!

Frank the mug painting

Thanks for looking, got to get to bed!!!
I will post some more stuff real soon.

Kinny, I'll have some trade painting pics for you asap.
I thought we could do an interactive mp painting for our trade.

Cheers, MP

trade painting pics!
that's right...
PNG,right?
really really wanting to see what that group of islands can inspire in you!
Step to it,lazybones!
:)

that mojo stick thing is waaaay cool!
Al may have to pierce a drumskin with that mean lookin thing!

Frank the mug is nailing it with the perfectly placed details!
Tho, i would rather plant an orchid in it than drink out it
'cause you can't look at it while you're drinking from it....

i like the mix of different feels on the ol' Buggy
a perfect composition of 2 and 3-D!

Pink Skull Mug, i have hanging proudly in my back painting/main room...
i love how it pops off the background!Thank you for the adoption papers...
and moooose-stashes!

Very nice for a first bowl!
Those Moais have the clean graphicness of a Witco
without all dem pesky grains!

Charcoal Chop nailed it too!
You gots a great sense of presentation...

Great warm-up!
What's next?
:)

Retro Moai

This is the one I want. Saw it at Oasis and fell in love. I will PM you.

70's grass matt stuff

reed stuff

brown velvet

black fur

Black velvet

decisions, decisions :)

the black velvet IS quite dramatic...
The first too may be more Hawaiian than New Guinea
Fur?
my studio is a dust factory...
Send that fur to Mitch O'Connell-he loves it!
But-having not seen the "meat"
i will hold back until the PNG "meat" of the piece is underway....
Does this mess up your Factory production line?
thank you,kind sir!

Wise decision kenny, the meat of the painting is under way.

Here is a new skull mug I'm working on. My son and I were playing with
clay last night and I liked what was happening with my lump. I named him
Irwin and he is inspired by my Ivan skull we had out on the table. My Randotti
skulls from Disneyland are some of my most prized treasures.

Here are some progress pics.

Right about now Irwin is getting "leather hard". My favorite
stage for carving clay.

Still more work to do.

L

OMG i love it already! I can't wait to see it finished.

MP, I was asleep at the wheel and missed your last few posts
:music:While the veterans dream of the fight,
Fast asleep at the traffic light :music:

Love the Charcoal Chop and the bowl
CMST (Crazy Mojo Stick Thing)? - 'nuf said  I too, stopped and told Crazy Al he was an inspiration to me. What a character! (I mean that in a good way)

This interactive deal between you and Kinny is fun. The frames are cool and all but what attracted my eye was the textures behind the frames; is your studio an old barn? How cool is that!

"Ivan the Awesome" is looking, well...AWESOME! Is that porcelain?

M

Thanks a lot Lorilei and MadDog. Im having fun carving again.
Here some progress on Irwin and a Tiki Bob mug I just finished today.
I'm doing a Raku firing in a couple of weeks so I need some stuff. Hope I can
get a couple of molds made of these two if I have time.

Mike, that is an old barn I work in. There's a lot of space out here on the farm.
The clay I'm using is B-mix, very soft and creamy for carving.

Irwin has a funky little coaster now.

My square version of Bob, a very popular fellow. Having fun carving this one.
Cheers

NAILED IT!
SquareBob is YET another take on an old classic done good!
YOU should make a mold of this 'un!
you go boy,doughboy!
:)

4

Square Bob = TOO Cool!!!

Irwin has 'tailfins'!

When you raku fire, maybe you could get a couple action pics?

square bob is great well executed and a good pun

Irwin ROCKS those tailfins and Bob rocks the square :)

Is the B-mix a ceramic clay or a modeling clay?

B

If you molded Irwin and Squarebob I believe you'd have a couple of hit singles on your hands.

Yes siree Bob!!

Bowie

T

Yes, you need to mold these guys & go into production. Do you know how unhappy you'd make us all if you didn't??? How could you be so cruel? Think of the children (us)!

L

MOLD THE SQUARE BOB!!!!!!

Its awesome !
