This past Sunday's NY Times (April 13, 2003)has a small article in the "Styles" section of the paper on Singapore Sling cocktails. Otto's Shrunken Head bar is mentioned, and the history of the cocktail is discussed and its virtues are extolled. There is a recipe as well. There is a pic of a cocktail next to 2 hula dolls near some bamboo. |

I'm sleeping! Craters and Freighters has an online quote tool. eBay has been a big boon to their business. |

I few years ago I was fortunate enough to be able to order a Singapore Sling from the Raffles Hotel in Singapore - the birthplace of the drink. Raffles is a rather exclusive hotel, and I remember the drink costing around me around $12 dollars - but I did get to keep the glass. The glass is a stemmed glass, with a drawing of a 1920 era couple on it .... definitely more of a Great Gatsby than a tiki feel. The Slings there were pre-made, but I didn't complain too much because it did soothe my dry throat. A web search came upon an image of the Raffles Singapore Sling glass - that is not me in the picture. http://www.downstream.sk.ca/gifs/singapore.jpg Vern |

During my Navy days I too visited Raffles, it was quite dead in there but beautifully architectured. At least I saw the Sing sling's birthplace. Anybody else been to Penang Malaysia? Just a little ways from Singapore and lotsah tiki shirts and good batik cloth. No tiki bars though. |
