Aloha! Longtime TC member that hasn't posted in a heck of a long time, but I want to make sure that y'all heard the great news!!

Thanks for posting. I'm glad this is finally happening and doubly stoked that Bosko is doing the remodel!

I too, am super stoked for this. Congrats to Jeff and Bosko. Hope Jeff posts some progress pics of the build. :D

How fun...adding Nola to my bucket list.

Great news indeed, Bosko get some of that great New Orleans food while you're there.

sweet, in the Vieux Carré.

down near the river. looks like one could stay in the warehouse district, then stop at the Bum's place on the walk (stumble?) to Cafe du Monde.

laissez les bon temps rouler!

P

I'm doing a couple of tikis that will be displayed on the bar... :)

P

Can't wait! New Orleans being one our favorite haunts that we visit several times a year from Houston via Amtrak's Sunset Limited train. And soon to have a new Tiki establishment to visit there, to boot. Awesome!

Coincidentally (for me at least)...the Bienville House Hotel was the first hotel I ever stayed at in New Orleans over 36 years ago, in which we stayed on our nation's Bicentennial, July 4, 1976. It was kind of a dump of back then (The Best Western Bienville House), but glad to see on recent visits that it has benefited from new ownership, management and recent renovations. Very nice little hotel now.

A fun logo and a "September 2014" opening mentioned here:

I posted the same thing that premex posted.

Anyone heard any updates on this? I'll be staying a night in NOLA at the end of Sept. Fingers crossed they'll get it open on time.

F

I need to reach out to my friends that still stay in NOLA to see if there is any local buzz and info... Ill def make the drive out of Austin to check it out, maybe even for the opener if possible.

Things are still go. I'm sure that any news of the opening will make it to the pages of TC pretty quickly!

P

I just returned yesterday from New Orleans. On Tuesday, I stopped by and snapped this:

Nothing really to report. Everything was locked up and the windows were all papered over, so nothing to see or sneak a peek at. Front desk had no new info.

I'll be back in October. Hopefully it'll be open for business by then.

D

Jeff sez...... Target opening is early-October.

K

I hope they stay on that target. I'll be in town at the end of October beginning of November for Halloween.

H

I'm completely bummed (no pun intended). I'm heading to NOLA for my 40th Birthday on September 18 and I'm staying right around the corner..but alas...not to be.

I just called the hotel and spoke to the receptionist. (Receptionists know everything, right?) She told me they have no idea when Latitude 29 is going to open.

I also checked room availability in the hotel for the first three Fri/Sat weekends in October and they're all booked up. So if there is an early October opening, then we probably won't be able to stay in the headquarters hotel.

The Bienville House website says Latitude 29 is "Opening in late October 2014".

P

Sounds like a plan...

I second that motion...

Although I can't give you a sneak peek of the large map I made for the bar, I can show you the mug we are making Mr and Mrs Bum and Latitude 29!

Sculpt Shown.

Wow. Nicest modern mug I've seen in a long while. Suitable for the Bum himself! Brilliant job sir.

Any news on the opening date?

Excited to get the mug!

The mug looks great, Danny!

From the article: "But Latitude 29, at Kaye’s insistence, will have a slightly more pared-down, contemporary tiki aesthetic."
(Uh, oh, does this make anyone else uneasy? Hasn't that been tried?)

More: "If I had my way," Berry said, "there would be twice as many lamps and twice as many things on the walls."
(Sounds like the "If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy" dictum has won out, though.)

"The rum's the thing..."

I know what you mean. But Jeff is a scholar AND a gentleman, and thus he treats his wife with equal respect and love, as a partner in all things. Bosko as the artisan and designer, combined with the impeccable taste of Miss Bum, we are in for a treat I am certain.

Love this line from the article about other revival Tiki bars: “Ironically most of those recipes are coming from my books,” Berry said. “I created my own competition.”

How True! Can't wait to get back to N'awlins after the place opens up.

So close and yet so far.

I just returned home from my first trip to New Orleans. I had been watching for updates on Latitide 29 in the weeks leading up to the trip. We even had rooms at the Bienville House - before I found out about the opening.

Early in our visit we heard from one bartender that they were trying to open on Halloween. Sadly they remained closed during our entire trip but we did get to peek in through a few windows.

I guess we'll have to plan another trip at some point in the future.

I'm going for an ATLS course in NO Dec 13-14 or so. Sure hope this place is open by then.

I'd be completely shocked if they don't open in the next few weeks (early Nov). They looked so close when I was there a few days ago. There was a big pile of glass floats piled under one of the windows I was able to peek through but other than that the dining area appeared ready to open.

Sadly it will be several years before I return to New Orleans. We have so many new places to go on our list.

F

Keith, H, I hope you got to check out the cocktails at Broussard's while you were there. Paul - their lead barman- makes some of the best damn libations in the country.
:drink:

F

No cell phone pics through the window with all these sneak peaks?

Did not make it to Broussards... We ran short on time. We did enjoy Cane and Table on Decatur quite a bit!

It's here, it's here, it's finally here!!!

Menu up on their site.

Road trip being planned!
