Recipe: Orlando Sour - a lost Disney's Polynesian Village drink reconstructed

2 oz. bourbon or scotch
1/2 oz. Valencia orange juice
1/2 oz. Villafranca lemon juice
1/4 oz. orgeat
1/4 oz. sugar syrup
1-1/2 cups crushed ice

Place ice in cocktail shaker. Add the ingredients along with the lemon rind, putting aside the orange rind. Shake until cold. Pour into glass without straining. Garnish by placing the orange rind in the glass along with a mint sprig.

Thanks for posting. Interesting story and research. Although I'm not sure I agree with the original including amaretto instead of orgeat. If the Mai Kai could procure orgeat, I'm fairly certain Disney wouldn't have problem doing so as well.

Do you have a better guess what the liqueur mentioned in the recipe might have been then? None of the Trader Vic's sour drinks ever included liqueurs.

I have heard from old bartenders at the Polynesian that at one time the central foods processing facility made the scorpion mix for the Lapu Lapus and delivered it each day in 5 gallon buckets, so anything is possible.

Agreed, anything is possible, including amaretto as you've deduced. I was only stating that I didn't think it would have been difficult for them to obtain orgeat. In addition, one of the most difficult parts of reconstructing a recipe from listed ingredients is determining what ingredients might NOT be listed, which you've done by adding simple syrup. But if your concoction tastes good, it's passed the most important test. Did you try it with amaretto to make sure it tastes OK that way?
