Tiki Wall Decor

What do you have on your Tiki Bar/Room walls?

I have a couple with blank spots and would love some ideas of what I could put up. So far I have a Martin Denny and Elvis Blue Hawaii LP framed. Don Beachcomber photo, a velvet painting (need a better one to replace it) and a ship wheel.

um tikis?

Peruse the Home Tiki Bars tread, plenty of pictures and inspiration there: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewforum.php?forum=20&18104

If you are really into tiki then you should have no problem finding what you like. My problem is that I have run out of empty space.

I don't have too much on the walls because I have a vaulted ceiling that I hang stuff from. But my walls do have some framed posters and taxidermy fish.

Among other things, the walls of the Hai'deaway are adorned with a lot of framed, paper ephemera that I've collected over the years. It's relatively cheap to buy (usually cheaper than the frame), and it looks great:

The cover of an issue of Ballyhoo Magazine from the 1930s:

A couple of Hawaiian-themed pinball flyers I purchased from the gentleman who sold me my Bali Hi pinball machine:

A South Seas travel poster, probably a reproduction of an old poster from the '30s:

Every tiki bar needs an album cover featuring a comely wahine shaking her big gourds:

Vintage Matson cruise line menus with beautiful watercolors of Polynesian scenes:

And finally, lithographs of Polynesia from the 1850s that were cut out of magazines, like Harper's Weekly:

YES! This was exactly the inspiration and response I was looking for. Some great stuff!

Glad to help. I was lucky enough find most of my stuff at a local antique mall with a huge collection of paper ephemera, organized by topic. I also scored big at a couple of west-coast flea markets specializing in the same. Happy hunting!

Not sure where you are located but here in SoCal, we can go to the Tiki Marketplaces and find tons of tiki art for walls. Any large tiki event will have art for sale.

Beyond that, get out there and go to thrifting. You can find some great stuff on the cheap!

I really like the swizzle stick shadow box ideas on this thread: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=30293&forum=5&start=60

I live on Vancouver Island. It's in Canada which is also known as the land that doesn't have cool stores like Cali would. Sadly. Im heading to Disneyland in October and might try to head over to Oceanic Arts

Oh thats a really great idea! I have one swizzle stick right now... might take me a while. Haha!

It is Best if you take your time and not rush into it. There is a lot of stuff out there that looks Tiki but is overly mass produced and the colors and styles can be goofy. Take the time to read through this thread and and the Tiki Marketplace forum. Maybe you can frequent thrift stores locally to find items of interest. The more you read, the better your collecting skills will be. Have fun and go with what you like.

There are a lot of different styles that you can use as inspiration. You have a PNW mask as part of your signature so you could design your place to look like a vintage explorers library with items from around the world.
Even though I live in Southern California I find most of my items online because I like weird stuff, nautical, curiosities, real Micronesian and Polynesian art mixed in with the tiki kitsch. I also have a knack for finding cheap, quality tribal art online because it's frequently labeled incorrectly. It would take a lot of time driving around So Cal to decorate in the style that I have.
I would assume Vancouver has some vintage nautical shops. Nautical and tiki goes great together.
